This Week on TV – 3/15/09-3/21/09

Welcome to a new week of TV! Lots of stuff on this week, including the series premiere of Kings, the series finale of Battlestar Galactica & much more. There are 30 episodes on Sunday alone! So let’s see what’s on, shall we? Jump with me to see this week’s schedule!

Sunday

Sunday is the series premiere of Kings on NBC at 8/7c. This riveting new drama is about a modern-day monarchy. The series is an epic story of greed and power, war and romance, forbidden loves and secret alliances — and a young hero who rises to power in a modern-day kingdom. It stars Ian McShane (Deadwood), Chris Egan, Sebastian Stan, Susanna Thompson, Allison Miller, Wes Studi, Eamonn Walker and Dylan Baker.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Tough Love on VH1 at 10/9c. Handsome, cocky and smart, Steve Ward is America’s maestro of love. His brutally honest approach to matchmaking is what has made him and his mother Joann Ward one of the most successful matchmaking teams in the country. Steve has the balls to tell women not what they want to hear, but what they need to hear to find love. The series revolves around a “Tough Love Bootcamp,” where Steve works with a group of eight single, attractive women living together in a house for eight weeks to change their dating ways. Steve guarantees that if they follow his rules then by the end of the eight weeks they will be ready for love. But there’s a method to Steve’s madness. Steve’s methodology consists of his rules of dating. Steve’s rules are bold, insightful, and often hilarious. But most of all they offer an unapologetic glance into the male mind. The core of the series is Steve revealing the truth about what men really think when it comes to dating and women. The women in this bootcamp are desperate and single, but can’t figure out why. Over the course of the eight episodes, we’ll see our love-lorn ladies be put through the paces — and come out the other side transformed. Some will graduate, others will struggle to break old dating habits, and along the way Steve will be challenged to match the toughest cases of his career. Steve Ward. You may not like his rules, but if you want to find true love you gotta face the truth and follow ’em.

Wednesday

Wednesday is the series premiere of Better Off Ted on ABC at 8:30/7:30c. This new office comedy is about successful good guy Ted who runs Research and Development at the morally questionable Veridian Dynamics. No achievement is too far-fetched and no invention too unorthodox for Veridian. Need cow-less meat grown in a test tube? Done. Need pumpkins that also double as weapons of mass destruction? No problem. Ted’s a single dad to a seven-year-old girl and he loves his job, but he’s starting to take a closer look at the company’s extremely dubious practices. Do you manufacture the best teeth whitener ever if it could also kill off all of the planet’s fish? Probably not, but… Ted’s also fighting an attraction to co-worker Linda, who enjoys small acts of rebellion against Veridian (she’s secretly stealing and hoarding all the company’s creamer packets). But he holds back about his true feelings. He’s already had his self imposed “one office affair” with boss Veronica. Incredibly beautiful (if seemingly devoid of conscience and emotion-free), Veronica lets nothing get in her way when it comes to serving Veridian’s needs. This stars Andrea Anders (The Class), Jay Harrington, Jonathan Slavin, Malcolm Barrett and Portia de Rossi (Ally McBeal & Arrested Development).

Thursday

Thursday is the series premiere of Taking the Stage on MTV at 10/9c. From the high school stage to center stage, MTV follows the stories of some of the most talented teenagers in the nation as they balance the enormous pressures of pursuing their dreams while navigating their way through the normal trials and tribulations of high school. Created by Nick Lachey and Colton Gramm, the show features students from Cincinnati’s famed, School for the Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA). These gifted students face difficult decisions in planning for their futures and because of their common bonds of artistic expression, form life long friendships along the way. In this intensely competitive world of performing arts, MTV viewers will meet dream seekers from all over — a ballerina who dreams of dancing at the celebrated Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, to a gifted hip-hop dancer who’s new to the school and chasing the dream of dancing in music videos to a student who dreams of one day performing on Broadway. Each student is following their dream, and the cameras will be there to capture everything that comes along in their pursuit of their goals: The ups and downs, the adulations and the tears, and that moment when they risk it all.
