This Week on TV – 4/19/09-4/25/09

Welcome to a new week of TV! We are slowly coming to the end of the season. Shows that took a few weeks off are back for a last short run and we will see more and more finales as the weeks go by. So let’s see what is in store for us this week! Jump with me to see this week’s schedule!

Sunday

Sunday is the series premiere of Sit Down, Shut Up on FOX at 8:30/7:30c. From Mitch Hurwitz, the creator of Arrested Development, the new animated comedy focuses on the dysfunctional faculty and staff at a high school in a small Florida fishing town as they strive to do anything… but teach. Based on the hit live-action Australian series with animation set against a live-action backdrop, the series lampoons modern society while exposing the dreams, flaws and struggling humanity of our first and most formative authority figures: teachers. The series features a dream team cast of voice talent including Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, Kristin Chenoweth, Will Forte, Tom Kenny, Nick Kroll, Cheri Oteri, Kenan Thompson and Henry Winkler.

Tonight is also the season premieres of Law & Order: CI on 9/8c and In Plain Sight at 10/9c, both on USA.

Finally, there are 7 specials on tonight! The 2009 Miss USA Pageant on NBC is 2 hours and starts at 7/6c. At 9/8c on Comedy Central is the 1-hour special, Comedy Central Presents: Ron White: Behavioral Problems. Also at 9/8c is the 1-hour reunion special of Rock of Love with Bret Michaels on VH1, and the 1-hour “Go Green” special from Jon & Kate Plus 8 on TLC.

At 8/7c on ABC Family is the 2-hour TV movie, My Fake Fiance, starring Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch) and Joey Lawrence (Blossom). Oil and water get along better than Jennifer and Vince, who meet at a friend’s wedding. But when they see the haul of presents and cash their friends receive, the cash strapped duo resolve to join forces and come up with a plan. They decide to fake a relationship, engagement and wedding – and stay together long enough to make it look authentic. But real feelings get in the way when these two actually start to fall for each other.

Also tonight is a 2-hour part 1 of 2 of the miniseries Knights of Bloodsteel on SciFi at 9/8c. This stars Christopher Lloyd, David James Elliott and Natassia Malthe. On the island continent of Mirabilis, in a faraway time, the most coveted element is bloodsteel, a sorcery grade ore that imparts potent magical abilities to anyone who is able to draw it from the earth. The desire for untold wealth and power has drawn much of Mirabilis’ vast and disparate populace-humans, elves, dwarves and goblins-to the old port mining town of Black Roc Keep. It has also enticed the evil Dragon Eye (Mark Gibbon) and his ruthless cadre of Brood soldiers, who’ll stop at nothing to possess the ore for the purpose of total world domination. Enlisted to save Mirabilis from this lethal insurgency is the venerable sorcerer elf Tesselink (Christopher Lloyd), who has been given a vital directive by the Oracle of the land. He must find the legendary magical Crucible, which is the source of bloodsteel. To execute this perilous quest, Tesselink gathers an unlikely band of freedom fighters: two humans, Serragoth (David James Elliott), the sworn enemy of the Brood, and Adric (Christopher Jacot), a charming con-man; the imposing goblin Ber-Lak (Dru Viergever); and lastly, the beautiful and fearless warrior elf, Perfidia (Natassia Malthe). Together, this motley, but supremely talented, Knights of Bloodsteel, embark on their dangerous mission. They must fight against the Brood – the dreaded assassins and soldiers of Dragon Eye who are led by the deadly goblin Azenhawke (Gardiner Millar) and his ruthless lieutenant Swope (Peter Bryant). And if that is not enough, Dragon Eye has also unleashed lethal dragons and other horrendous creatures to find the source of the bloodsteel and to obliterate anything that stands in his way. The future of Mirabilis is in the hands of four brave knights and their courage is tested in ways they could never have imagined.

Finally, the last special of the night is the 2-hour tv movie, The Courageous Heart of Irene Sendler, on CBS at 9/8c. The drama is based on the courageous true story of Nobel Peace Prize nominee Irena Sendler (Anna Paquin, True Blood), who is credited with saving the lives of 2,500 Jewish children during World War II. Academy Award winner and nominee Marcia Gay Harden (Pollock, Mystic River), Nathaniel Parker (The Inspector Lynley Mysteries) and Goran Visnjic (ER) also star. Harden plays Sendler’s mother, Janina, and Parker portrays Dr. Majkowski, the head of Warsaw’s Department of Health who helped Sendler obtain important resources for her mission. Visnjic plays Stefan, a former university friend of Sendler who was Jewish and with whom she fell in love when she started her clandestine work in the Warsaw ghetto.
