This Week on TV – 6/21/09-6/27/09

Welcome to a new week of TV! It’s a CRAZY busy week, it seems like. Tons of finales and premieres, including some biggies that I’ve been looking forward to, such as Merlin on Sunday and The Philanthropist on Wednesday. So let’s get to it! (By the way, Happy Father’s Day to not only my dad and father-in-law, but my husband, who is a wonderful father to our son, and to all the fathers out there!) Jump with me to see this week’s schedule!

Sunday

Sunday is the season finale of HGTV’s $250,000 Challenge on HGTV at 10/9c. I’m rooting for Jeff and Elizabell Marquez. The other couple just drives me up the wall. She cries a lot and he tries to act cool (calling the backsplash a “splash” and he wanted to “trim” the cabinets – meaning he wanted to paint a part of the outside or something… *rolling eyes*), and it just doesn’t work. lol

Tonight is also the series premiere of Merlin on NBC at 8/7c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 9/8c. Merlin is a new 13-part drama series that updates the story of the infamous sorcerer of Arthurian legend for a new audience in the mythical city of Camelot, in a time before history began. In this fantastical realm, Merlin is a young man gifted with extraordinary magical powers who arrives in the kingdom and quickly makes enemies, including the heir to Uther’s crown, the headstrong Prince Arthur. But guided by Uther’s wise physician, Gaius, Merlin is soon using his talents not just to survive but also to unlock Camelot’s mystical secrets. Starring Colin Morgan as Merlin, Bradley James as Prince Arthur, Anthony Head (Giles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as King Uther, Richard Wilson as Gaius, Katie McGrath as Morgana, Michelle Ryan (Jaime Sommers on Bionic Woman) as Nimueh, Angel Coulby as Gwen and Santiago Cabrera (Isaac Mendez on Heroes) as Lancelot, Merlin is an imaginative new twist on a legend that is as old as time.

Another premiere tonight is the season premiere of Just For Laughs on ABC at 7/6c.

Tonight on ABC is the 2-hour part 1 of a 2-part miniseries, Impact at 9/8c. The most spectacular meteor shower in 10,000 years results in a direct hit to the moon, leaving it on a collision course with the Earth. A small group of international astronauts, scientists and soldiers band together in a race against time to save humanity. It stars David James Elliott (JAG & Close to Home), Natasha Henstridge (Eli Stone), Steven Culp (Desperate Housewives) and James Cromwell (W, L.A. Confidential & Babe), among others.

Finally, it’s the Guy’s Choice 2009 2-hour special on Spike TV at 10/9c. I can only imagine what that entails, being on Spike TV, but if you are a guy, you might check it out.

But when she shows up at The Rock gymnastics training center in Colorado, she inadvertently shakes up the gym’s status quo. Emily’s natural abilities and lower economic status don’t win her friends immediately. The three girls most threatened by her arrival are top gymnast Payson Keeler (Ayla Kell, CSI: Miami), whose whole life is gymnastics and who is used to being number one; the beautiful Kaylie Cruz (Josie Loren, 17 Again), who must deal with a dad who is a perfectionist and a secret relationship with the gym’s resident hottie, Carter Anderson (Zachary Burr Abel, The Secret Life of the American Teenager); and ultra competitive Lauren Tanner (Cassie Scerbo, Bring It On: In It To Win It), who takes Emily’s arrival the hardest. With Emily just trying to do her best, will the girls eventually warm up to the newcomer or, if Lauren has her way, will Emily be heading back to the local YMCA gym she came from? Also stars Peri Gilpin (Frasier), Candance Cameron Bure (Full House) and Susan Ward (Sunset Beach).

Since the death of his son, the danger and risk to his life is the only way he can feel genuinely alive and he’ll do anything in order to achieve his goals. 1. Megan says:

On Sunday night that show Impact doesn’t look that good, same old stuff as usual. But I am excited for a new episode of True Blood, and also seeing Anthony Head on TV again. πŸ™‚
I’m also interested to see how that show Make it or Break it does on ABC Family.
If you haven’t seen Hawthorne I’d say give a shot, it was pretty good. Some amusing and touching storylines in the premiere episode.
Should be a decent TV Week. πŸ™‚

  2. Megan says:

PS- I’ve never seen an episode of Real World either.

  3. Jenny says:

I dunno, I love the tv movies like that, so I am recording Impact. We’ll see. Usually it depends on the cast and I like some of the people in this one. So it may get watched, may get deleted. *laughs*
