This Week on TV – 7/26/09-8/1/09

Welcome to a new week of TV! Busy week but not quite as many huge things going on. Still lots to talk about, so let’s get going! Jump with me to view this week’s schedule!

Sunday

Sunday is the season finale of Daisy of Love on VH1 at 9/8c. There is a new episode of Hammertime on A&E at 10/9c, followed by the season finale at 10:30/9:30c, as well.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Extreme Cuisine with Jeff Corwin on Food Network at 10/9c. It’s pulling a Glee, though, as new episodes won’t air until September. Renowned for his expertise in wildlife and conservation, Jeff Corwin sets his sights on exploring human culture through regional cuisine in his first Food Network endeavor: Extreme Cuisine with Jeff Corwin. With an open mind (and mouth), this thrilling primetime series follows the passionate foodie and anthropologist as he tears through countries like Thailand, Mexico, Greece, and Peru on radical culinary adventures. Learning from the natives, he samples the exotic foods and local customs that mold each community. Jeff enjoys countless surprises and unforgettable flavors during this fun-filled culinary quest all in a day’s work!

Tonight is the first of the Doctor Who 2009 Specials, Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead, on BBC America at 8/7c. As a London red bus takes a detour to an alien world it forces the Doctor (David Tennant) to work with the extraordinary Lady Christina (Michelle Ryan, Bionic Woman). But the mysterious planet holds terrifying secrets hidden in the sand and time is running out as the deadly Swarm gets closer.

More specials tonight include the Being Human Unearthed special on BBC America at 10:30/9:30c, as well as the 2-hour part 1 of the 2-part miniseries, The Storm on NBC at 9/8c. It’s a long description, but the list of television favorites in the cast might compell you to watch, as I know it will me: David James Elliott (JAG), James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek), John Larroquette (Boston Legal), Luke Perry (Beverly Hills 90210), Marisol Nichols (24), Teri Polo (The Wedding Bells) and Treat Williams (Everwood)

It sets out to prove that love comes in all shapes and sizes. The unscripted and inspirational series follows a single and eligible man with a big waist and an even bigger heart as he romances several confident and secure plus-size women. As the competition narrows from 20 women to the final two, he will have to decide if one of these voluptuous ladies has what it takes to become his true love.

Tonight is also the season premiere of Dragons’ Den on BBC America at 9/8c.

Finally, tonight is the 1-hour ‘After the Final Rose’ Special of The Bachelorette on ABC at 10/9c. Not having seen the season finale when I write this, I have no idea how this will go down, but I seriously doubt it can top last season, when Jason dumped Melissa and asked Molly for another chance.
