TGIF!!! 🙂 It’s odd how the summer can seem to be flying by, but this week seemed to drag on isn’t it? Big Brother was pretty intense last night wasn’t it? Be sure to check back this weekend for my weekly recaps and reviews, now let’s get to some news.
TNT has just announced that it plans to conclude the drama Saving Grace in the summer of 2010. The series, which stars Holly Hunter (The Piano), was a ground breaking hit for the network, ends this season on August 18th, but will only return for 9 episodes next summer before Detective Grace Hanadarko hands in her badge. It’s a very popular show, so I’m thinking the network just wanted to end on a high note. Although why end a popular series and renew a series like HawthoRNe, I will never know. Your thoughts? Source
More news ahead
It looks like Kate Winslet will be starring in a miniseries adaptation of James McCain’s novel, Mildred Pierce, which is currently being pitched to cable networks including the popular HBO. The novel is centered on a single mom that fights for independence during the Great Depression, there was also a film version in 1945 with Joan Crawford winning her first Academy Award for her role in it. The original movie was outstanding and I believe that if anyone can do a remake justice then Kate Winslet is the one to do it, I hope HBO picks it up. Source
Speaking of re-makes there are rumours that ABC is in the stages of remaking the classic 1985 movie, St. Elmo’s Fire, into a drama for the small screen. The original director and co-writer of the movie, Joel Schumacher is part of the team of executive producers of the possible TV drama, as is Topher Grace (That 70’s Show). If you remember the movie starred actors such as Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe (he had a serious mullet in that movie 😉 ), Demi Moore, and Judd Nelson. The show would have six main characters instead of seven, with 3 men and 3 women, and it would be still be set in Washington. Just like the movie it would be centered on the six friends, making their ways through the ups and downs of life after college, with their Georgetown neighbourhood and the bar, St. Elmo’s Fire, being a prominent place in the show. At the moment ABC has made a script commitment and I’ll give you more details as soon as I hear them. I loved the original movie although I was young when it came out… okay really young, but I enjoyed it later as a classic 80’s movie. The show would more than likely do well with a large fan following simply because of the movie, however I hope that like the TV version of 10 Things I Hate about You, on ABC Family, they make a strong effort to remain to the same vibe for the show. What do you think? Source
E!Online is dishing a small spoiler on Gossip Girl about the love child of Rufus (Matthew Settle) and Lily (Kelly Rutherford), including whether or not his intentions are good. I’m going to link you to it, so that I’m not spoiling it for anyone who doesn’t want to know, but let me say I’m excited for the next season. Article here
Okay that’s it for today, but I’ll be back this weekend with my weekly review, have a great weekend!
