This Week on TV – 8/16/09-8/22/09

Welcome to a new week of TV! Another busy week on TV. I don’t see that changing now that the new Fall season is coming up soon! (Yay!) So let’s see what is on for you to watch and record this week, shall we? Jump with me to view this week’s schedule!

Sunday

Sunday is the series finale of Easy Money on CW at 7/6c. Tonight is also a new episode of Gene Simmons Family Jewels on A&E at 9/8c, followed by the season finale at 9:30/8:30c.

There are a handful of premieres tonight. There is only one season premiere, though, of Mad Men on AMC at 10/9c.

There are several series premieres tonight. First up is the 45-minute series premiere of Kourtney & Khloe on E! at 10/9c. Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian are taking Miami by storm! Get in on all the action as the sisters open a new Dash boutique and make their way through South Beach’s sexy, simmering scene.

Next is the 60-minute series premiere of My Antonio on VH1 at 10/9c. Ultimate bachelor Antonio Sabato Jr. is looking for love — and VH1 captures every twist and turn of the battle for his heart in this new show. Thirteen beautiful women travel to an exotic paradise in Hawaii, hoping to make a love connection with the General Hospital star, Calvin Klein underwear model and hunk extraordinaire. Who will win the heart of one of the most desired men on the planet? The show is a real-life soap opera, with romance, betrayal and a show-stopping plot twist: A woman from Antonio’s past will shock everyone when she shows up to compete for his love. And she’s not just any woman. She’s Antonio’s ex-wife! Now she’s determined to win him back — at any cost. And there’s another lady causing trouble — Antonio’s momma. She arrives to help him make the most important decision of his life. But is anyone good enough for her number one son?

Third is the 90-minute series premiere of P. Diddy’s Starmaker on MTV at 10/9c. Sean “Diddy” Combs and reality television visionary Mark Burnett (Survivor & The Apprentice) join forces to produce this, an innovative performance elimination show that brings together the best elements of reality television under one roof: linking the explosive reality of young talent desperate to become stars with the excitement of on-stage competition. It is the only show that gives viewers a backstage pass to see the real life drama behind the scenes as seven guys and seven girls battle it out for the superstar opportunity of a lifetime — a deal with Diddy’s Bad Boy Records label. Former American Idol contestant Kimberly Caldwell serves as the host, while the contestants will be judged by the likes of performer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, music industry executive Tamara Conniff and choreographer Laurie Ann Gibson. Additionally, celebrity guest judges Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy), Nicole Scherzinger (Pussy Cat Dolls), Lady Gaga and Kelly Rowland will also weigh in over the course of the competition. Noted artist manager Johnny Wright will mentor the contestants along the way and guide each one through the process, just as he guides his real life superstar clients like Justin Timberlake and the Jonas Brothers.

Finally, tonight is the 45-minute series premiere of Reality Hell on E! at 10:45/9:45c. As long as there’s reality TV, there’s Reality Hell. Most reality shows have people looking for their 15 minutes of fame. This new show will have people wanting to give their’s back! The reality genre has all but taken over television programming, making stars out of regular people. Now E! is turning the tables on all those reality-star wannabes by staging a show where the whole cast is in on an act to set up one unknowing reality-show contestant. Staged scenarios include an over-the-top modeling competition with extreme challenges, wacky contestants and insane judges and a family swap that will have the mom trying to find a way to escape the crazy Hollywood clan she’s been placed with. This summer on E!, Fake is the new Reality!

Monday

Monday is the series finale of two shows. First up is the premiere of Glenn Martin DDS on Nick at Nite at 8/7c. A star-studded voice-over cast featuring Kevin Nealon (Weeds, Anger Management), Catherine O’Hara (For Your Consideration, Chicken Little) and Judy Greer (27 Dresses, Arrested Development) has been tapped for Nick at Nite’s upcoming stop-motion animated comedy, Glenn Martin, DDS. The first television production to come from Michael Eisner’s Tornante Animation, the show follows a beleaguered dentist and his family trading in the suburbs for life on the road. Crisscrossing the country, the Martins are beset by an array of colorful locals and crazy situations in locations ranging from Las Vegas to Amish Country. Many of the characters they encounter are voiced by enough instantly recognizable guest stars to fill a parking lot of RVs, including: Chrissie Hynde, Betty White, Gene Simmons, Wendie Malick and more.

The second series premiere is of Hoarders on A&E at 10/9c. Each 60-minute episode of Hoarders is a fascinating look inside the lives of two different people whose inability to part with their belongings is so out of control that they are on the verge of a personal crisis. Whether they’re facing eviction, the loss of their children, jail time, or divorce, they are all desperately in need of help. In a fly-on-the-wall style, we’ll capture the drama as experts work to put each on the road to recovery. But cleaning is just the first step, like taking drugs away from an addict. The healing won’t be easy. For some, throwing away even the tiniest thing — a sponge, a button, an empty box — is so painful that they will not be able to allow the cleaning to be completed, no matter the consequences. For others, professional help and an organizer’s guidance give them the strength to recover. At the end of each episode we’ll find out who has been able to keep their hoarding behavior at bay and who, despite help, is still lost inside this painful disease.

Tonight is the season premiere of Top Gear on BBC America at 8/7c.

Finally, tonight is a new game of Monday Night Football: Carolina Panthers at New York Giants on ESPN at 8/7c.

Tuesday

Tuesday is the season finale of 4 shows. First up is one of my favorites, Hawthorne on TNT at 9/8c. Following that, on Food Network, is another of my favs, The Best Thing I Ever Ate at 9:30/8:30c. The other 2 season finales are Miami Social on Bravo at 9/8c and Saving Grace on TNT at 10/9c.

There are 3 series premieres tonight. First up is the series premiere of Shaq VS. on ABC at 9/8c. The one-hour competition series, in which Shaquille O’Neal will take his athletic prowess beyond the basketball court and strive to become a champion in a new sporting event each week. Over the course of the series, O’Neal will challenge Olympian and World Champion Michael Phelps in swimming; Ben Roethlisberger, Super Bowl-winning quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, in football; reigning U.S. Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon Champion Serena Williams in tennis; championship fighter Oscar de la Hoya in boxing; two time NL MVP and St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols in baseball; and Olympic gold medalists Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor in beach volleyball. Uh….huh.

Second is the series premiere of Masters of Reception on TLC at 10/9c. Produced by Kelly Ripa and her husband Mark Consuelos, the series takes a behind-the-scenes look at the Frungillo family and their booming New Jersey catering business. Having served everyone from Frank Sinatra to the Pope, the Frungillos pride themselves on being the very best at bringing people together and providing every bride and groom with their ultimate dream wedding.

Finally, tonight is the series premiere of House of Jazmin on MTV at 10:30/9:30c. On the surface, Jazmin Whitley is just your average American twenty year old. She lives in a modest suburban home outside LA with her Mom and brother. She also spends a lot of time with her Sicilian grandparents who live in the house next door. When she’s not shopping, she likes to drink lattes and gossip about boys with her high school girlfriends. Scratch a little deeper however, and what you have is a young lady on the verge of adulthood who happens to be a talented fashion designer determined to become one of the best in the world. The show follows the day-to-day adventures of this young fashion ingénue as her life flits from ordinary teenage fun in the burbs to the stresses of running her own clothing line label and the high fashion dramas of catwalk shows. Her girly demeanor and innocent outlook belie the fact that Jazmin already has 6 collections under her belt. She takes her business very seriously but running your own label at the tender age of 20 can be difficult when you are the same age as your models and your buyers are much older than you. There is little chance that Jazmin will get lost in the glitz and glamour of the fashion business any time soon, because both of her feet are kept firmly planted on the ground by her close knit family. Ultimately this series is about what happens when you mix a young girl following her dreams with the very adult demands of the fashion business. All while she still tries to remain true to her suburban teenage life.
