This Week on TV – 8/30/09-9/5/09

Welcome to a new week of TV! Lots of great TV on this week again. A couple of Fall preview specials, some football, some premieres and finales and quite a few other specials.

Before we get to the schedule, though, I want to let everyone know that Megan is in the middle of packing to move and will be making the journey later this week. I’ll be posting news this week and she may or may not have time to post her review of Hell’s Kitchen and won’t have her weekly review next weekend (although she’s going to try to make sure to get this weekend’s review posted for you all, yay!). Anyway, everyone wish her luck and a safe trip! I hope she gets back as quickly (but safely) as possible, cause I know we’ll all miss her posts! Good luck, Megan!

Okay, now, jump with me to view this week’s schedule!

Sunday

Tuesday

Tuesday is the season finale of Rescue Me on FX at 10/9c.

Tonight is the series premiere of Surviving Disaster on Spike TV at 10/9c. Picking up a few last minute items at the mall when violent gunmen storm the store… what to do? What if, on the daily subway commute, a bio weapon is released? Or a fire is blazing in the 12th floor office and the only way out is blocked? Disasters can strike at the most unexpected times, but Spike TV’s new original series, led by Cade Courtley, vividly takes viewers through catastrophic scenarios and arms them with the knowledge needed to survive the unthinkable. Navy SEAL Courtley is the ideal host for this timely series, having faced imminent danger for a living, conducting clandestine missions from the sea, air and land that include counter-terrorism operations, special reconnaissance and unconventional warfare.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre World on the Travel Channel at 10/9c. Andrew Zimmern hosts Bizarre Foods and now, his exploration continues with his new show, Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre World, where he takes his passion for other cultures to the extreme. Andrew dives face-first into the most unusual and unexpected traditions from around the globe, traveling to Belize, Cuba, Kalahari, South Africa, Sulawesi, Bali, Germany, Florida and Wisconsin.

Finally, tonight is the Making Bored To Death special on HBO at 10:45/9:45c. Bored To Death is a new show starring Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis premiering on HBO on September 20th. This comedy is about a Brooklyn writer who nurses a painful breakup by acting out his dream to become a private eye. I’ve read a review that said it’s pretty funny, so check out the special tonight to get a sneak peak into the show before it premieres later this month!

Friday

Friday is a 90-minute special on CMT called Aquapalooza on Lake Martin at 8/7c. Labor Day weekend, soak up some last-minute summer fun with megastar Alan Jackson. No stranger to the nautical lifestyle, Jackson performs his biggest hits before thousands of fans at this unique maritime location.

Also tonight is the 1-hour special, Comedy Central Special: Michael Loftus: You’ve Changed on Comedy Central at 10/9c. Michael Loftus’ wholesome looks might fool viewers, but this seemingly mild-mannered Midwesterner has a sharper tongue than some may realize. Whether he’s pointing out the pros and cons of sleeping naked or likening a wedding ring to a mystical relic out of “Lord of the Rings,” Loftus uses energetic physical comedy to cynically skewer life in suburbia and beyond.

Tonight’s guests on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross on BBC America at 9/8c are James May, Dame Vivienne Westwood, Rufus Wainwright and Paolo Nutini.

Tonight’s guests on Martin Lawrence Presents 1st Amendment Stand-Up on Starz at 11/10c are Hope Flood, Darius Bradford and Joe Clair.

Saturday

Saturday is a new episode of The Bill Engvall Show on TBS at 9/8c, followed by the season finale at 9:30/8:30c. I love this show. It’s simple, cute, funny and for the most part, clean enough I can watch while Josh is awake. I like that a lot, since there are so few comedies on nowadays that I can watch live!

Tonight is also the season premiere of Saturday Night College Football on ABC at 8/7c, featuring Alabama vs Virginia Tech.

Also on tonight:

  • *Season Finale*The Bill Engvall Show (#309/310) – TBS @ 9/8c & 9:30/8:30c (2 New Episodes Including Season Finale)
