TV News – 12/21/09

Monday and only 4 more sleeps until Christmas morning 😀 Let’s get to the little news that there is shall we?

The coveted spot following the Super Bowl on CBS, has been filled. It’s not The Big Bang Theory or NCIS:Los Angeles like a lot of fans wanted, nope it’s a new reality show called, Undercover Boss. The new show shows executives while they secretly take entry level positions at their companies, and learn how their decisions affect the masses. The first episode will follow, “Larry O’Donnell, president of Waste Management, as he cleans porta-potties and works at a recycling plant.” The show will take it’s place on Sundays at 9 pm starting February 14th. Any thoughts on this decision? Are you as bummed as I am that they didn’t decide to broadcast a special episode of one of the fan favorites? Sound off below. Source

More after the jump.

Maura Tierney may come back to television for the next season of Rescue Me, if she’s well enough after her cancer treatment. Tierney was supposed to be in the new NBC show, Parenthood but she had to withdraw from the show after being diagnosed with breast cancer, Lauren Graham took over her role on the show. However, Peter Tolan, executive producer of Rescue Me, has said that they “are just about finished writing the entire sixth season… we know we’re going to bring back Maura Tierney, because we loved her and she loved us which is even more fulfilling.” Tierney’s character was a love interest for Denis Leary’s character Tommy, and in September it appeared that Tierney’s character, Kelly, rejected Tommy. Hopefully, she’s well enough because I really enjoy Tierney on TV and can’t wait to see more of her. Source

It’s been a very bad year for Hollywood, as there have been many deaths, and now 2009 claimed another young life. Brittany Murphy died of apparent cardiac arrest, at the young age of 32, yesterday at her in Los Angeles. I don’t usually cover these sorts of stories, but I loved Murphy, she was brilliant in Girl Interrupted and was so amusing in Clueless. I hope that her family will be able to find some sort of peace during this awful time. She will be truly missed. Source

White Collar has been renewed for a second season. The details of the pickup are yet to be released but the show had a fairly decent showing on the USA network for a new show, and pulled in an average of 5.4 million viewers. The second season release date is still up in the air but we do know that White Collar will return on January 20th for the rest of season one. I’m happy with this news, I just started watching the show and although it’s not on my list of must watch favorites as of yet, given a few more episodes it just might be. Source

The adorable Mia Kirshner (24, L Word), has signed on to join the cast of The Vampire Diaries as “Isobel, the sweet-yet-dangerous wife of Matt Davis’ history teacher, Alaric.” The role is recurring and she’ll debut on the show sometime in January. This is great casting, Kirshner was wonderful on L Word and I think she’ll add a little more sex appeal for the older crowds to the show. Thoughts? Source

Alright that’s all for now, have a great day!
