CW only added two new shows for next Fall. Of course, that doesn’t mean they won’t pick up more later on, but for now, this is it. I’m not entirely sold on either one of them yet, although I do like some of the cast in each, so who knows! Luckily they are bringing back fan favorites (& some of mine!), Life Unexpected, One Tree Hill & The Vampire Diaries, among others. So check out the 2 new shows, then hit me up via tweet ( @tvismypacifier ) or comment below & let me know what you think!
Press Release – Hellcats is a coming-of-age story about Marti Perkins, a young, pre-law student at Lancer University in Memphis, Tennessee. Marti is cool, hip and alt, but her world flips upside down, literally and figuratively, when she loses her scholarship, and realizes the only way she can stay in school is by reigniting her dormant teen gymnastic skills to win a place on Lancer’s legendary cheerleading team, The Hellcats. Against her every instinct, Marti goes for it and makes the squad, and is thrust into a world of camaraderie, backstabbing and the intersection of sports, backroom academia and big money. Marti’s new roommate, Savannah Monroe, a petite, peppy Texan, is among the diverse cast of athletes, undergrads, family and friends, all set on the sprawling campus of a powerhouse college football program in the deep South. The series stars Aly Michalka (Bandslam, Phil of the Future) as Marti Perkins, Ashley Tisdale (The Suite Life, High School Musical movies) as Savannah Monroe, Heather Hemmens as Alice Verdura, Robbie Jones (One Tree Hill) as Lewis Flynn, Matt Barr (One Tree Hill, Harper’s Island) as Dan Patch, with Sharon Leal (Guiding Light, Boston Public, Private Practice) as Vanessa Lodge and Gail O’Grady (Boston Legal, Desperate Housewives) as Wanda Perkins.
My thoughts – It’s got a strong cast, especially for the CW’s viewers. Aly & Ashley will appeal to fans (or former fans) of the Disney Channel like me (I loved Aly as Keeley Teslow on Phil of the Future!), and Matt Barr and Robbie Jones both have been on the CW before. Robbie’s character of Quentin on One Tree Hill was pretty cool until they killed him off. It’s airing after America’s Next Top Model, so I’m not sure how well it’ll do (I think it would be better following One Tree Hill or even Life Unexpected, but who knows. Overall, I’m not really thrilled on the premise of the show, but those 4, along with Sharon Leal and Gail O’Grady, will definitely reel me in for a few episodes.
Press Release – When she was a deeply troubled teenager, Nikita was rescued from death row by a secret U.S. agency known only as Division, who faked her execution and told her she was being given a second chance to start a new life and serve her country. What they didn’t tell her was that she was being trained as a spy and assassin. Ultimately, Nikita was betrayed and her dreams shattered by the only people she thought she could trust. Now, after three years in hiding, Nikita is seeking retribution and making it clear to her former bosses that she will stop at nothing to expose and destroy their covert operation. For the time being, however, Division continues to recruit and train other young people, erasing all evidence of their former lives and turning them into cold and efficient killers. One of these new recruits, Alex, is just beginning to understand what lies ahead for her and why the legendary Nikita made the desperate decision to run. The series stars Maggie Q (Mission Imposible III) as Nikita, Lyndsy Fonseca (How I Met Your Mother, Desperate Housewives) as Alex, Shane West (ER, Once and Again) as Michael, Aaron Stanford (Traveler) as Birkhoff, Ashton Holmes (The Pacific, Boston Legal) as Thom, Tiffany Hines (10 Things I Hate About You, Bones, Beyond the Break) as Jaden, with Melinda Clarke (The OC, The Vampire Diaries) as Amanda and Xander Berkeley (CSI & guest star in a TON of things) as Percy.
My thoughts – I never watched the original of this show. I have nothing against remakes at all, so I’m not going into this one prejudiced against it because of that. I do like the premise, and I love love love some of the cast. Shane West captured my heart in Once and Again and ER, as well as the movie A Walk To Remember, so I would probably watch it just for him. I also LOVE Melinda Clarke, who was the perfectly bitchy Julie Cooper on The OC, and Xander Berkeley, who I recognize from his many guest spots on some of my favorites, like Criminal Minds, The Closer, Medium & The Mentalist. So I’m excited to see some of these people back on TV fulltime. The show follows The Vampire Diaries on Thursdays, but is going up against the likes of Grey’s Anatomy on ABC, The Office on NBC, CSI on CBS and Fringe on FOX. That’s a big negative it will have to overcome if it wants to gain viewers!
