This Week on TV – 7/11/10-7/17/10

Welcome to a new week of TV! This is a crazy busy week. I’m beyond thrilled for the premieres of The Glades on Sunday, Rizzoli & Isles and The Closer on Monday, and Psych on Wednesday, but there is tons more on.

Don’t forget to comment or Tweet @tvismypacifier to let us know what YOU are planning to watch this week! Jump with me to see the schedule!

Sunday

Sunday is the series premiere of 4 shows. First up is the premiere of Kid In a Candy Store on Food Network at 10:30/9:30c. Adam Gertler’s mission is to find the best, most outrageous, most innovative, and also most loved sweet treats in the world. Adam travels the United States to visit bakeries, restaurants, food carts, and factories where America’s favorite candies are produced. From wild and wacky twists on traditional favorites like deep fried cupcakes or sweet beet ice cream to the most scrumptious and creative candy, cakes and frozen snacks in the country, this sweet joyride makes viewers feel like a kid again.

The second premiere tonight is the 90-minute premiere of Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch on VH1 at 9/8c. Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Chad Ochocinco (formerly Chad Johnson) is using his off-season to pursue happiness off the field in his new VH1 original series. The series is a mix of Ochocinco’s on-field charisma blended with the drama of the dating pool played out in a bracket-style dating tournament.

The third premiere tonight is Russell Simmons Presents on Comedy Central at 11/10c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 11:30/10:30c. This 6-episode series is hosted by JB Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Saturday Night Live), and features stand-up with a hip-hop vibe, reflecting the urban culture of today’s youth through stand-up comedy.

The last series premiere tonight is The Glades on A&E at 10/9c. The show is a character driven police procedural set in the fictional town of Palm Glade, Florida, stars Australian actor Matt Passmore (McLeod’s Daughters, Underbelly), Kiele Sanchez (Lost, Samantha Who?), Carlos Gomez (Shark, Sleeper Cell) and Michelle Hurd (Law & Order SVU, Gossip Girl). In The Glades, Passmore stars as Jim Longworth, an attractive, brilliant, yet hard to get along with homicide detective from Chicago who after being wrongfully accused of sleeping with his former Captain’s wife is forced into exile. Longworth relocates to the sleepy, middle of nowhere town of Palm Glade, Florida, where the sunshine and golf are plentiful and crime is seemingly at a minimum. Yet life in this sleepy town is not as beautiful as it may seem.

Tonight Is also the season premiere of The T.O. Show on VH1 at 10:30/9:30c.

Finally, there are 4 specials tonight. First is a 90-minute Jimmy Buffett & Friends: Live From the Gulf Coast special on CMT at 7/6c.

Monday

Monday is the series premiere of 2 shows. First up is my favorite new show in awhile, Rizzoli & Isles on TNT at 10/9c. The show, starring Angie Harmon (Women’s Murder Club, Law & Order) and Sasha Alexander (NCIS), is based on Tess Gerritsen’s popular mystery novels. It follows Boston detective Jane Rizzoli (Harmon) and medical examiner Maura Isles (Alexander), complete opposites and good friends who solve crimes and bust some of Boston’s most notorious criminals. Growing up at opposite ends of the economic spectrum, the two remain strikingly different from one another in many ways. Jane, the only female detective in Boston’s homicide division, is a tough and gutsy cop who doesn’t let her guard down (except with Maura), dodges her overprotective mother and is better at basketball than her brother. Maura, meanwhile, is usually more comfortable among the dead than the living. She is always impeccably dressed in designer duds with a steady, sometimes icy temperament. And she is working on curbing her tendency to diagnose the people she meets – including her first dates. Jane and Maura often find themselves working together as both use their brilliant minds and expertise to figure out the “who done it” as well as the “how done it” of Boston’s most complex cases. The show also stars Lorraine Bracco (The Sopranos) as Angela, Jane’s demanding and intrusive mother; Lee Thompson Young (FlashForward) as Det. Barry Frost, Jane’s somewhat green partner; Bruce McGill (Law Abiding Citizen) as Det. Vince Korsak, Jane’s seasoned former partner; and Jordan Bridges (Dawson’s Creek) as Jane’s brother, Frankie, a patrol cop who hopes one day to become a detective. Guest starring is Billy Burke (The Twilight Saga movies) as FBI Agent & love interest for Harmon’s Rizzoli.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Samantha Brown’s Asia on the Travel Channel at 8/7c. As she has done over the past 10 years on the Travel Channel, Samantha uses her charming personality and ability to make the excitement of travel accessible for everyone, leading viewers on a multi-country excursion across Asia.

Tonight is also the season premiere of 2 shows. First up is the premiere of The Closer on TNT at 9/8c, and Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory on MTV at 9:30/8:30c.
