Congratulations to Joanna for winning the giveaway for The Fairy Jobmother! Joanna, check your email!
Once I worked in a restaurant as a “Bus person” for about 2 hours when I was 13. There were mice and roaches. The cooks while smoking as they cooked. And the last straw was when one of the dish washer tried to rub up against my chest “accdicently” several times.
I used to do tech support over the phone. Among the many, many strange people I talked to, the creepiest was easily the guy who offered to pay for my flight to visit him. All I did was help him reset his modem. When I asked at the end of the call “Is there anything else I could help with?” like I did on all my calls, he told me “Yes, probably, but not something I can say over the phone.” I hung up and pretended it was an accident.
At that same job, I once had to explain to a customer why his email was broken. It wasn’t actually broken – he just hadn’t gotten any email that day. We tested it, it worked, things were fine. Apparently, he was too stoned to realize his friends just hadn’t sent a message lately.
The most interesting job I ever had was planting trees that would one day be Christmas trees! It was a lot of hard work, but fun to know that the trees would provide so many families with happy holidays many years down the road.
