If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/12/11

It’s really weird to go to sleep feeling perfectly fine, and wake up at 7:00 in the morning so stuffed up, you can’t breathe through your nose. Thirty-six hours later, I still feel like utter crap. lol Dunno what is going on, but this cold or sinus problem has GOT to go! I’m not so sick I can’t enjoy TV, though, and there’s lots of great stuff on tonight to keep a viewer (sick or not) entertained. So read on to see what we think you should be watching tonight!

I know I’ve said it before, but I must repeat it: If you aren’t watching The Defenders because you think, “Jim Belushi? Really?”, trust me, he’s nothing like his character on his last show, According to Jim (which I loved, but I know a lot of people didn’t). Please, just give it a shot. I assumed from the promos and pictures before the show ever started that the show would be more jokey comedy with exaggerated … I dunno, goofiness and not focused so much on the cases and seriousness. I was wrong. Yes, the show definitely has a lot of comedic moments, but Belushi and O’Connell have a fantastic chemistry, the supporting cast is great, and the cases and stories are funny, serious, heartwarming, and everything in between. The show tackles everything from strippers charged with prostitution, to murders, and tonight’s episode, the he said/she said of a rape case.

The promos for tonight’s episode look like it will be a very emotional episode, with a smattering of humor thrown in on the side, which is what the show does best: making you feel more than one emotion every episode. On tonight’s show, Nick is prompted to defend a 21-year-old man whom he has personal ties with after a victim identifies him as her attacker in a sexual assault case; Pete is a little stunned at the fact that he has to attend jury duty.

First came Grey’s Anatomy, then came Private Practice, and now, from the same brilliant mind, comes Off the Map. Shonda Rhimes’ new medical drama is kicking off tonight, and I have to admit, I’m excited. I know, there are those that are skeptical because it’s “another” medical show, but this one is different. We’re going to follow the doctors as they face the challenges of caring for patients while in the jungle.

In tonight’s premiere episode of this drama, three physicians arrive in a remote South American village to work at a bare-bones clinic started by a former famous surgeon (Martin Henderson).

Tune into ABC at 10/9c and make up your own mind as to whether Shonda Rhimes has written another hit. Learn where to find episodes online of Off the Map @ Clicker.

If you don’t know what penny can is or who Big Joe is, you seriously need to get a clue and watch Cougar Town! This funny show has spawned new catchphrases, new and inventive games, and a cast of characters that you really can’t help but love. Though they promised there was going to be a name change, and none has ever happened just yet, I think that leaving well enough alone on this show is just about perfect.

Tonight, Laurie proves to be quite possibly the worst houseguest ever when Jules lets her stay at her house when she is in need. Laurie in turn helps Jules out by getting her to realize that she doesn’t need to change for others. Meanwhile, Bobby gets jealous when Travis hits up Grayson for advice, and then Grayson is there for his friend.

Watch an all new Cougar Town on ABC tonight at 9:30/8:30c. Learn where to find episodes online of Cougar Town @ Clicker.

If you haven’t been watching Modern Family, you are missing out on the best comedy on TV today.

In this week’s episode, former 24 star Mary Lynn Rajskub guest-stars as Mitch’s ex (yes, ex-GIRLfriend). That’s right, “Cloe O’Brien” herself is back on TV! For those who didn’t know, Mary Lynn was actually a stand-up comic before getting cast on 24. Youtube it, kids.

Don’t miss what’s sure to be a brilliant episode on ABC at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Modern Town @ Clicker.
