Tonight is the series premiere of The Chicago Code on FOX at 9/8c. Set and shot on location in Chicago, from Shawn Ryan (The Shield) comes The Chicago Code, a fast-paced series centered on Jarek Wysocki (Jason Clarke), a local legend and a larger-than-life veteran of the Chicago Police Department who wields considerable power thanks to his relationship with Teresa Colvin (Jennifer Beals), his ex-partner and the city’s first female superintendent, now in charge of a 10,000-member police force. While Teresa diplomatically governs amidst the complicated landscape of Chicago politics, Jarek works the streets on a crusade to clean up corruption and crime and avenge his brother’s murder. Along the way, they will stop at nothing to bring down their powerful adversaries, including Alderman Ronin Gibbons (Delroy Lindo), a building-magnate-turned-politician who has ruled his ward with a velvet glove for over two decades. Joining Jarek on the street is Caleb Evers (Matt Lauria), an eager young detective trying desperately to prove himself. Also in Jarek’s charge is his niece, Vonda Wysocki (Devin Kelley), a rookie beat cop whose father – Jarek’s brother – was killed in the line of duty when she was young. Jarek keeps close tabs on her and is less than thrilled with the risk-taking ways of her cocky hotshot partner, Isaac Joiner (Todd Williams). Also in the mix is low-life Liam Hennessey (Billy Lush), an Irish thug who blends in with the gritty world of local crime.

Tonight is also the series premiere of The Unpoppables on TLC at 8/7c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 8:30/7:30c. The show follows Addi, Katie and Brian – the uniquely talented staff at New Balloon Art – as they twist and tie balloons of all colors, shapes and sizes into elaborate, large-scale creations. In each half-hour episode, the team is commissioned to create an out of this world balloon installation for a special event or occasion. After meeting with the client to determine a theme, Addi, Katie and Brian get to work conceptualizing and creating – working with an average of 15,000 balloons to build a latex work of art in under 72 hours.

Tonight is also the 80-minute season premiere of Top Gear on BBC America at 9/8c, followed by a 100-minute 2nd new episode at 10:20/9:20c.

Tuesday

Tonight is the series premiere of Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy on the History Channel at 9/8c. Larry the Cable Guy believes the United States of America is the greatest country on the face of the earth and he’s out to prove it. In this new series, Larry crisscrosses the nation, going totally off the beaten path to find the people, places and things that define this nation’s unique history. From panning for gold in the hills of California to leading a cavalry charge in a Civil War reenactment in Virginia, Larry gives history a fun, down-home twist. Each episode uncovers surprising information about America’s history from the story of how moonshine-making during Prohibition gave rise to one of America’s most celebrated past times – NASCAR racing – to the history of etiquette from Emily Post’s heirs in Vermont, complete with a lesson in good manners. Keep an eye out Tuesday for our interview with Larry himself!

The second series premiere tonight is Traffic Light on FOX at 9:30/8:30c. It’s a new comedy about how friendships and romances – though often difficult and sometimes messy but always worth the work – both enhance and complicate our lives. The series centers on three longtime friends and their attempts to navigate the demands of their relationships. Mike (David Denman), Adam (Nelson Franklin) and Ethan (Kris Marshall) have been friends since college, and the trio has seen each other through highs and lows. Now in their 30s, these men find themselves at very different stages in their lives. Mike is a married lawyer who wants nothing more than to be a good family man to his wife, Lisa (Liza Lapira), and his young son, but he’s also desperately trying to carve out a little space for himself. Adam recently moved in with his girlfriend, Callie (Aya Cash), and is learning how vastly different “she comes over a lot” and “she lives with me” really are, especially when his girlfriend is an adventurous, straight-talking firecracker. Ethan is the perpetual bachelor. He loves women, and when he’s in, he’s all in – at least for three weeks. Charming, genuine and hopelessly independent, Ethan is finding out that as he gets older, the pool of women who are willing to take things day by day is rapidly evaporating. Luckily, he has Carl, his beloved, long-suffering bulldog.

Tonight is also the season premiere of 3 shows. First up is Top Shot on the History Channel and 1000 Ways to Die on Spike TV, both at 10/9c. The final premiere is My Life as Liz on MTV at 11/10c.
