If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/15/11

Thank God it’s Friday! It’s been a long week, but there were some fantastic episodes on TV, so that helped a lot! Tonight is no different, with the series finale of one show, the season premiere of another, and a couple of new episodes of some others. Friday night TV is suddenly not nearly as boring, so read on to see what we think you should watch.

The last couple of episodes of Flashpoint have been chock full of goodness! The team was put under review and are now on probation, Ed was shot on his way to see his wife deliver their baby, the team hunted down the drug dealer shooter, Ed pulled through and his wife had the kid, the team was allowed to stay together (although they are on probation), and Jules and Sam are back together (secretely). Just lots going on! Hopefully, tonight’s episode will be just as good!

Tonight, when a cop who mistakenly shot and killed a young boy is declared innocent, Team One confronts a rioting crowd and the father whose dreams died the night he lost his son.

It’s no secret that I enjoy a good supernatural show, and Haven has never disappointed me. Each week, we get a little piece into the puzzle as to why this town is as messed up as it is, and every week, it gets more and more intricate. We left our favorites at the end of last season with a girl showing up claiming to be Agent Audrey Parker. That was some cliff hanger.

On tonight’s season premiere, Audrey and Nathan discover a supernatural threat visiting deadly plagues upon the town – all while grappling with a visitor to town who shares Audrey’s name and memories.

So the sun sets on Dillon, Texas, and its beloved residents who have touched so many hearts. It’s hard to imagine that a show so moving, gripping, and real could be airing its series finale. Sadly, Friday Night Lights turns off the bulbs tonight in an amazingly sweet and dramatic way that is true to the love that the fans share for it. Thankfully, some of the seasons’ past familiar faces make some great appearances that help the show and its fans go out with clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose! Texas forever!

Tonight, in an extra special extended series finale, everyone’s futures are up in the air as the Lions head off to the State Championship.

Torchwood finally returned last week after two years, and I was quickly reminded of how much I love this show. Back are the over-the-top action sequences, such as Gwen Cooper rapid-firing a gun in one hand while holding an ear-muffed baby in the other arm, and taking down a helicopter with a rocket launcher from the back of a moving vehicle. This season of Torchwood also has an interesting premise, where all of a sudden, no one in the world dies (they don’t necessarily heal, they just don’t die). It will be interesting to see how the normally immortal Jack is affected by all of this. There are some great new cast members this season, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the rest of season plays out.

In tonight’s episode “Rendition,” Jack realizes he’s vulnerable; a flight turns into a battle for survival.

I know Megan already recommended it, but I have to weigh in. One of last summer’s favorites returns tonight. My husband & I were both huge fans of Haven last year, and we’re both really excited about it being back tonight. Megan told you a little about it, but if you don’t haven’t seen it before, here’s a bit more information: FBI Agent Audrey Parker came to Haven on a routine case, and then decided to stay awhile when she started realizing the town wasn’t normal. She met Nathan, a police officer and son of the chief. Later, she learned Nathan has no sense of touch. Even later than that, she learned the only thing Nathan CAN feel is Audrey’s touch. Audrey has kind of a flirty relationship with badboy Duke, and Nathan doesn’t like that, as he & Duke have some history that makes them dislike one another. Finally, at the end of last season, the Chief ended up going all “Haven-y” and died in a spectacular way. Hopefully, this season will live up to season one’s string of fantastic episodes.

Tonight, Audrey has a puzzling encounter with a mysterious woman who shares her memories and claims to be FBI Agent Audrey Parker. Nathan replaces his father as Haven’s newest police chief, and Duke must face an individual from his past.
