It’s hard to believe that August is here already! On one hand, we’re all sad because summer will soon be wrapping up, but on the other hand, we can all be excited for a new fall season of television. 🙂 Although this summer may just be the first summer in ages where I haven’t yet started counting down the days, and I believe that’s because of the amazing summer television I’ve been enjoying. Let’s see what will be keeping us (and you!) busy tonight.
Hell’s Kitchen is full of drama this season, and it’s making for a rocky competition. Elise seriously has the biggest mouth of all the chefs. However, she doesn’t always have the talent to back it up. I hope that both the blue and red teams can get their stuff together and start doing some actual cooking without the drama. Not likely, though. 🙂
On tonight’s episode, the remaining 12 chefs find themselves in the middle of another intense challenge as the red team faces off against the blue team when they attempt to avoid being on the losing end of a competition that will see the unfortunate become demoralized. As usual, there is great food, bad food, and a side of drama.

There are varying degrees of intensity and drama in shows like Covert Affairs. Last week had Annie and Joan going undercover with Ben (Annie’s ex) to get info on hostage takers who were holding an undercover CIA agent hostage. While that may seem like it’s going to be incredibly tense, it had a much lighter feel to it than you’d expect. Sure, there were some heavier moments, but really, it felt a lot lighter than I was expecting. I love that, because it’s great to see how the show mixes up the drama with the lightness. This week looks no different. Annie’s storyline looks pretty emotional, but in some of the promo pictures I’ve seen, Auggie and Danielle (Annie’s sister) are having coffee together. I can’t WAIT to see what that’s about!
Tonight, following the death of her college professor, Mark Ramsay, Annie learns that he was, in fact, a CIA operative who was killed while tracking a Pakistani spy ring. Because of Annie’s existing relationship with Mark, she is sent to reveal his secret spy life to his widow, Safia, in the hopes of finding the intel Mark was unable to deliver. Laara Sadiq and Dylan Taylor (Defying Gravity, House Party, Aliens in America) guest star.

I’ve always been a fan of reality shows that try to bring the thrill and mystery of an Action/Adventure film to the reality TV screen. Some examples of this (from the past decade) are The Mole, Murder in a Small Town X, and Treasure Hunters, but we haven’t seen one of these shows in a while. So I am really excited for tonight’s premiere of Take the Money and Run on ABC. The series has been picked up for 6 episodes, and each week, everyday folks try to outwit highly-experienced investigative professionals in order to take home the $100,000 prize. ABC.com describes the show as “an exhilarating competition series that will take reality television to a whole new level [with its] cat and mouse format.” If the series lives up to this description, I’m sure I will love it.
In tonight’s episode, “Oh Brother!,” brothers from San Francisco try to successfully hide a briefcase containing $100,000 from local police detectives.

Lately on Pretty Little Liars, someone has had their eye on Emily, and it doesn’t appear to just be Samara. A is looking to sink his/her hooks into Emily, and it takes a terrible toll on her. Caleb may have a target on his back, but not necessarily from A. After what he revealed about his past last episode to Hanna, he may not need A’s focus. Speaking of dramatic situations, how about Mike getting busted for burglary while the Montgomerys were already having an awkward party with both Jason and Ezra there eyeing Aria? Never a dull moment in Rosewood…and that’s the way we, and A, like it!
Emily has been juggling so many secrets and lies lately, and now with a surprise visit from her father right before a major swim meet, the pressure seems too much for her, which lands her in the hospital. With the prospect of having to come clean to her father about Danby, Emily realizes that she has bigger problems when “A” reveals his/her part in Emily’s flourishing swim career. Meanwhile, while visiting Emily, Spencer and Aria take the opportunity to try and do some more scavenging to find out about the cause of Alison’s death and how the broken field hockey stick that Toby found may play a part in the last few moments of their friend’s life. Also, Hanna struggles with the prospect of losing both of the men in her life, when her father’s wedding “Save the Date” card arrives, and Caleb’s past may be catching up with him, causing him to make tracks out of Rosewood.

I pick Memphis Beat every week, because I really do love it. I never hear people talk about it, and that makes me sad, because I believe it’s worth more attention than it’s getting. Jason Lee is just really, really fantastic as the lead, and the supporting cast has some of the most fun characters on television. If you haven’t checked it out yet, please do, and then let me know what you think!
On tonight’s episode, Dwight and Whitehead are called to a local bank, where a man has taken hostages, claiming he was the victim of a scam. Dwight promises to make things right for the man, but in doing so, he discovers this scam may go a lot deeper than he ever expected. Tony breaks up with Paula Ann, and Dwight has to pick up the pieces.
