If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/3/11

It’s kind of a crazy day today, because my kiddo is back to school in two weeks, so he’s taking the last bit of time he can to relax and enjoy the summer. Today, he’s at Oceans of Fun, hopefully enjoying the water WITHOUT getting sunburned! Also, I’m still reeling over how awful I thought last night’s premiere of Take the Money and Run was. I’m not sure I’ve ever disliked a show as much as I did that one. Luckily, tonight will be much better for me. I hope you enjoy all the great new TV tonight, too. What do we think you should watch? Check it out below!

Royal Pains has been great this season, what with the birth of Boris and Marissa’s baby boy, Paige’s mystery illness (or something that she’s tense about & hiding from Evan!), Hank & Evan’s father going to prison and subsequent release and them meeting their grandfather, Jill possibly leaving the Hamptons (and yet…she’s still here…), and Divya’s break up with Raj and disownment by her parents when she refuses to let them set her up with a new man for an arranged marriage. All of that is going on in addition to the great medical cases each week, and this week looks to be no different.

Hank attempts to determine a diagnosis for Libby’s (Tucker’s girlfriend…) mother, who he discovers has a wound that is unable to heal. Paige agrees to Evan’s marriage proposal, but only under the condition that he obtains a blessing from her father. Julie Benz (No Ordinary Family, Dexter) guest stars.

Check it out on the USA Network at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Royal Pains @ Clicker.

We are only one week away from the finale of So You Think You Can Dance, and it’s shaping up to be a talent packed finale. That said, we still need to get through the Top 6 this week! I’m hoping that Melanie wins, but I’d be happy with Sasha, as well. Another great thing would be for Melanie and Marko to run away together, but that’s not going to happen… I don’t think, at least. 😀

On tonight’s episode, the final 6 dancers are going to lay it all on the line to try and make it into the finale. They’ll have to survive the long winded critiques from Lil’ C, but hopefully guest judge Christina Applegate (Samantha Who? & the new Up All Night) will help ease the verbal assault. 😉

Tune in to FOX at 8/7c to see how the final 6 perform under this mounting pressure. Learn where to find episodes online of So You Think You Can Dance @ Clicker.

As I am writing this, I am realizing that I watch a heck of a lot of chef competition reality shows! When Rocco’s Dinner Party first aired, I wrote it off due to my annoyance with Rocco DiSpirito’s arrogance. However, as I’ve watched more of the show, it has become quite an entertaining cooking competition show. Each week, Rocco invites 3 chefs to cook their signature meal. Based on that, he selects two of the chefs to put on a dinner party for him and some celebrity friends, and whichever chef Rocco deems threw the better dinner party wins $20K. What I like about the show is that it is like a mix of Chopped, Top Chef and Extreme Chef. The chefs are in a time crunch and only have 1 hour to serve all of their courses. Each week, we see new guest diners, and get to see their reactions to the food, and hear their dinner party conversations. Finally, there are always some last minute curve balls when Rocco announces some of the diners’ dietary restrictions after the chefs have already planned their menus and started cooking.

In tonight’s episode, “Runway Ready,” Brooklyn caterer Sharon Robustelli, executive private chef Frank Otte, and jock turned sous chef Bill Haley all compete to create a line of dishes inspired by both handmade, high-end fashion, and mass produced, ready-to-wear clothing.

Tonight is the season finale of TNT’s hit show, Franklin & Bash. I have LOVED this show. It’s fun to watch Mark-Paul Gosselaar. His character is kind of like a grown up Zach Morris (Saved By the Bell), if Zach became a lawyer. His character, Peter Bash, is like a big kid when he gets together with his friend & partner, Jared Franklin (played by the funny Breckin Meyer), and yet… they are both very good at what they do. They take their job as lawyers very seriously, even if they don’t always show it to everyone else. That’s what makes it so great. They look like they are just goofing off, but they truly care about their clients and they will do whatever they can to get the job done—even if it means getting Jared drunk or asking a woman to strip in court.

On tonight’s episode, Franklin and Bash step up to the plate to help keep their new boss out of jail when Stanton Infeld is charged with the shocking crime of murder. Hanna represents a former wrestler who was forced by his employer to retire for being too old.

If Maura Tierney could be in every episode the rest of the season of Rescue Me, I’d be in heaven! She’s been the brightest light that the season has sparked so far, and she has such amazing chemistry with Denis Leary. Too bad Denis’ character Tommy is about to have a brand new baby…with his wife that he’s just reconciled with! Tommy just can’t catch a break, can he? Things just keep piling on with his daughter Colleen’s wedding, and now with having to be interviewed for the 9/11 anniversary film, Tommy may be seeking refuge where he really shouldn’t and conjuring up some old demons that just won’t seem to die.

Tonight, tension envelops the men of the precinct as an interview, which began innocently enough, quickly turns into an angry and hate-inspired interrogation that leads to a brawl and continues to cause unrest even after an intense call.

Tonight, I’m going to also suggest the TV Land comedy block of Hot in Cleveland and Happily Divorced. In a day and age where there are so many comedies bombarding our television, I enjoy kicking back and enjoying the classic humour of these two. Especially Hot in Cleveland, because you don’t get any funnier or classic than Betty White. 😀

On tonight’s episode of Hot in Cleveland, Victoria and Joy work together to form a scheme to exact revenge on Victoria’s co-worker, who enjoys pulling pranks on others. Melanie is shocked to discover that the man she is dating has a foot fetish. Elka returns from vacation with shocking news.

While I know that Fran Drescher’s voice can be a little annoying, her comedic timing is bang on. I love the irony of having a couple’s marriage break up, but still have to live together. That would be incredibly hard, yet they make it look like a crazy sleep over with your best friends.

On Happily Divorced tonight, Fran suspects her best friend’s man of hitting on her. She’s left with a decision that may tarnish their friendship. Renée Taylor, who played Fran’s nosy mother on The Nanny, guest stars.

Tune in to TV Land at 10/9c & 10:30/9:30c to giggle and enjoy the shenanigans. Learn where to find episodes online of Hot in Cleveland & Happily Divorced @ Clicker.

I can’t tell you how happy I am that we are still getting new episodes of Melissa & Joey on ABC Family. We got 12 episodes in 2010, from August through October, and then starting in June again, we’ve had 5 episodes so far. Tonight makes 2 more new episodes, and then incredibly, we get 11 more episodes this season! That’s a lot of episodes for a normal series, but for a comedy on a cable network like ABC Family, it’s pretty damn cool. And this show deserves it. Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence knock it out of the park each week with their comedy. They play off each other so well (which explains why this is not their only project together!), and it shows on screen. The kids are great, too, which helps make this one of my favorite family comedies.

On tonight’s first episode, “The Mel Word,” Mel plans a wedding at her home; Lennox and Ryder work on a documentary. Then on the second episode, “Auction Hero,” Mel volunteers Joe for a school charity auction but the winner of the auction may have ulterior motives.
