If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/17/11

Today is a special day for me, because my husband and I have been married 15 years today! I couldn’t do anything I do without him. He makes me a better person and shows me every day that it’s ok to be as weird as I am, because he’ll love me anyway. So thank you, Scott, for all of that. I love you! Now, on to your regularly scheduled recommendations! 🙂

My first pick tonight pairs up well with my anniversary, not only because I watch Melissa & Joey with my husband, but also because the two episodes tonight are all about love and relationships. Each week, we see the growth of feelings and jealousy between Mel and Joe, and I think this week will be no different. There are two episodes, so don’t forget the 2nd!

In “Young Love,” Mel meets a younger man, George (Scott Michael Foster, Greek), at a business reception she holds at her home, and the two begin dating. However Joe’s concerns over their age difference makes Mel question the validity of the relationship.

Then, in “Mel and Joe’s Anniversary,” Joe reaches out to his ex-wife on their anniversary, only to find her out to dinner with another man. George plans a party for his friends to meet his “girlfriend,” Mel, but she’s a little overwhelmed by the title and the sweet gesture. Meanwhile, Lennox’s feelings for Roman take a dramatic turn and end up getting in the way of their co-editor positions.

I’m going to have to suggest the season finale of Love in the Wild, for no other reason than it’s my guilty pleasure. Is it possible to find true love in the jungle? For a few people on this show, it is indeed possible. Mainly, for Mike and Samantha. Those two are headed for marital bliss, if they can continue to communicate as well as they do.

To be honest I love this show because it’s unlike the other dating shows. Unlike say, The Bachelor, these couples are put through adventures that would test the most solid of relationships. There’s a distinct possibility that I would have thrown my husband off a swinging bridge by now… just saying. 😉

On tonight’s season finale, Mike & Samantha and Miles & Heather head out on an overnight journey, before the winning pair decide if they’ve found love.

See if one couple will truly find “Love in the Wild” when you tune in to NBC at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Love in the Wild @ Clicker.

Last week’s episode of Royal Pains dealt with a magician—who caught on fire!—and Matt Lauer. What a combination! Poor Divya is feeling the pressure at her new job. Jill finally talked to Boris about what she remembers about the accident, and you could tell he was shaken to the core about it. But the best parts were the scenes between Evan and Hank. I swear, if you don’t like the Lawson brothers, something is wrong with you. They are so believable as siblings. I love it!

On tonight’s episode, Hank treats a champion marathon runner who’s experiencing difficulty in regulating her body temperature while training. Wilmer Valderrama (That 70s Show) guest stars.

Tonight, BBC America has the US premiere of the 6-part UK series, The Hour. In the premiere, it is June of 1956, and BBC newsreel reporters (and best friends) Bel Rowley and Freddie Lyon, both have their sights
set on a new current affairs TV program called The Hour. When Bel gets the producer’s job, she struggles to share the news with her best friend Freddie. Meanwhile, Freddie investigates the murder of a Professor, which the police and higher government officials seem to be trying to cover up.

This show feels like someone took the AMC lineup and put it in a blender—you’ve got the look/feel of a period show like Mad Men, the political conspiracy of Rubicon, and the question of who killed the professor with the knife in the subway like The Killing—or maybe that’s just Clue. I like the look of the show, with its 50s newsroom and TV studio, but the pilot got a bit slow at times. However, it did manage to keep my interest, and by the end, it had set up a very interesting conspiracy to play out across the series. There are also a lot of familiar UK TV faces in this show. I definitely want to see more.

My third pick tonight is the new comedies on TV Land. Last week, I didn’t watch the highlight clip show for Hot in Cleveland, so I’m really ready for a new episode! Last week’s episode of Happily Divorced, though, was great. We saw the last of Eliot, I think, and met Fran Drescher’s real life ex-husband, who played a man who picked Peter up in Las Vegas. It was a great episode, and this week looks great for not only that, but both shows.

Tonight on Hot in Cleveland, Melanie writes a column for Woman’s Day Magazine that asks the question, “Can Women Have Sex With No Strings?” Inspired by the topic, the women all set out on booty calls. Melanie and Joy’s plans backfire, Elka gets an unexpected proposal from her old friend Fred (Buck Henry), and Victoria gives her old flame Johnny (Huey Lewis) a minor heart attack that brings them a little closer to true love.

Following that, on tonight’s season finale of Happily Divorced, Fran and Peter are both ready to get back into the date game, but when they both coincidentally meet Gregory (Charles Shaughnessy, The Nanny), they realize the dating world is not what it used to be. Shaughnessy plays a famous author who takes a liking to Peter and Fran. But after getting mixed signals, they’re left wondering who he really wants.

Laugh along with me tonight on TV Land at 10/9c & 10:30/9:30c. Learn where to find episodes online of Hot in Cleveland & Happily Divorced @ Clicker.

Hold on to your hats! This season of Rescue Me has been nothing but off the charts with loads of drama, heapings of funny, and powerful performances. Callie Thorne was a complete knockout last episode with her incredible charisma, spunk, and utter bitchiness! This final season of Rescue Me has been pure perfection. There couldn’t be a better sendoff for this treasured show.

Tonight, Tommy gets inspired to write letters to his loved ones and also returns to Ground Zero with an old friend.

Tune in at 10/9c to FX for an all new episode! Learn where to find episodes online of Rescue Me @ Clicker.
