If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/25/11

I can’t believe that September is almost over! In fact, I can’t believe that my baby boy, Pherson, is 6 months old today. It still seems like just yesterday that I had him, but now, he’s trying to crawl, eating solids, and getting more personality daily. Before I know it, he’s going to be walking and talking. Eek!

Tonight starts another new week of television, and it’s even busier than last week. Hold on to your remotes and get your DVRs programmed, because this week is a not a sprint, it’s a marathon. Let’s see why tonight is…

It’s that time of year again, when teams of two get together to race around the world! In case you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s time for the 19th season premiere of The Amazing Race. This season, we have a team of Survivor alumni racing—Ethan and Jenna. There’s also a father/son team of Laurence and Zac, with Zac being the youngest guy to sail around the world. It looks like it’s going to be another great season. [Side note from Jenny: Be sure you set your DVRs long if you plan on recording it, because inevitably, football will run long, and you will miss part of the end if you don’t!]

Tonight, the teams set off for a new global adventure as they depart for Taipei, Taiwan. Plus, one team’s position in the game is put in serious jeopardy when they lose their passport less than an hour into the Race.

To get this season started and pick your favorite team, tune in to CBS at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Amazing Race @ Clicker.

Tonight is the season finale of The Great Food Truck Race. Last week, one of my favorite teams, Roxy’s Grilled Cheese, was sent packing back to Boston. I was sad about that, but it’ll still be an exciting finale. The last 2 teams are the Lime Truck from California and Hodge Podge, from Ohio. I am not a fan of Hodge Podge at all. I think the guy is a misogynistic jerk and his girlfriend and sister are airhead doormats. Ok, I’m sure that’s not quite true about the women, but…it sure seems like it sometimes. Anyway, as I’m their biggest fan, but I do hope the Lime Truck comes out on top!

On tonight’s finale, the final two trucks roll into Miami, Florida, where the contestants must earn $15,000 and race to the South Beach finish line to receive the $100,000 grand prize. However, multiple Speed Bumps will alter their last journey.

I am so excited for a new crop of contestants on tonight’s season premiere of The Amazing Race! This is by far my favorite reality competition show. It’s great to see the various relationships of the pairs of contestants and the conflicts within and amongst the teams. It’s also nice to see and learn about parts of the world I know I will never visit. Unlike Survivor, where the challenges feel like the same thing over and over again and every location looks the same, The Amazing Race gives us brand new tasks for the competitors each week, tailored to the country they are visiting. As I watch tonight’s premiere, instead of picking which team I’d like to see win, I will start making my list of annoying teams that need to go! 🙂 In a few weeks, I will switch gears and decide who I’m rooting for. Let’s get this race started! [Side note from Jenny: Be sure you set your DVRs long if you plan on recording it, because inevitably, football will run long, and you will miss part of the end if you don’t!]

In tonight’s episode, “Kindness of Strangers,” the teams begin the competition for $1 million as they head to Taiwan, and a lost passport jeopardizes one team’s future in the competition.

It’s 1963, and things are flying high…literally! This is a time when only few could take flight. A plane ride was a global adventure, and people knew they were making history. Pan Am was one of the largest, most prestigious airlines in the world at that time. It was the way to export American culture to the world abroad, as well as bringing that world back to America.

The show Pan Am focuses on the plane Clipper Majestic, which is about to embark on its inaugural flight with Captain Dean Lowery (Mike Vogel) taking the controls. Dean, who was recently made Captain, wouldn’t trade this moment for any other. Maggie Ryan (Christina Ricci) has climbed her way up in order to better her life and have a greater opportunity. She is the Purser of the craft, and she’s determined to stay on top! Kate Cameron (Kelli Garner) has left her former sheltered life in East Granby, Connecticut, to brave the intrigue of a whole new world. As an international agent for the CIA, she has to be even more brave now that she’s living a double life.

After running off on her wedding day, Kate’s sister, Laura Cameron (Margot Robbie), has left both her past and her future in order to follow her sister into the Pan Am lifestyle. Although the move may be bold, it has some serious personal consequences. Colette Valois (Karine Vanasse) was born and raised in France and has quite the innate understanding and flair for international affairs. But when it comes to affairs of the heart, she is still quite the wanderer. Finally, there is First Office and Co-Pilot Ted Vanderway (Michael Mosley), who is a former Navy test pilot. He finds the skies to be turbulent as he struggles to overcome some past mistakes and prove his worth as a master of the skies. Fly high with the series premiere tonight!

In the series premiere, Dean pilots the Clipper Majestic’s first New York to London flight. Maggie picks up a flight when the scheduled stewardess is a no show, and Kate takes on her first U.S. intelligence assignment.

Watch the intrigue unfold when you tune in to ABC at 10/9c! Learn where to find episodes online of Pan Am @ Clicker.

The Good Wife has an amazing cast, superb writing, and generally is perfection every episode. I love Matt Czuchry as Cary, and I’ve loved him as an actor since Gilmore Girls. He was a bad boy on Gilmore Girls, and let’s face it, he’s no angel on The Good Wife, either. That’s probably why girls love him, because if we’re honest, we all secretly love a bad boy. 😉 I’d be mistaken not to mention some of the other great cast members, including the beautiful Julianna Marguiles, who is flawless as Alicia, as well as the gorgeous Archie Panjabi as Kalinda Sharma, whose work with a baseball bat is second to none. 😉 We left our favorite lawyers and politicians torn between lovers and dealing with personal issues, as well as career changes. Where do we go from here? [Side note from Jenny: Be sure you set your DVRs long if you plan on recording it, because inevitably, football will run long, and you will miss part of the end if you don’t!]

On the third season premiere, the staff at Lockhart/Gardner adjusts to new realities and relationships. Alicia must put aside distractions in her personal life to defend a Muslim student accused of murdering a Jewish classmate.

Last season of CSI: Miami ended on a cliffhanger as both Natalia and Horatio were in the middle of danger. The entire episode was kind of fast paced and packed with action. The team was transporting Jack Toller, the last remaining jail break fugitive, when things went … awry, as they tend to do on this show, and Toller was able to escape. North was Toller’s former cell mate, who helped him escape, but he told Natalia and the team that he had only done it because Toller threatened his children. When Natalia is unable to help North get custody of his children later in the episode, he decides to take revenge. He lured Natalia and Horatio to the pier, where he shot Horatio and locked Natalia in the trunk of a car, which he then pushed into the ocean. That’s the scene we ended on. I’m not sure how, but Horatio’s dead ex-wife (Eric’s sister), Marisol, is back in this episode. I’m assuming it’s either a flashback or a hallucination. Either way…Alana De La Garza is guest starring. [Side note from Jenny: Be sure you set your DVRs long if you plan on recording it, because inevitably, football will run long, and you will miss part of the end if you don’t!]

On tonight’s premiere, Horatio and Natalia’s lives hang in the balance, as Horatio stands between Natalia and certain death. Meanwhile, it’s a race against time for the team to capture escaped killer Jack Toller before he kills again.

All I can say about last week’s Breaking Bad is WOW! Gus eliminated the entire cartel with one bottle of liquor! It was a genius move on his part to trick them into a mass poisoning. As last week’s episode ended, Jesse was driving away from the cartel compound with a poisoned Gus and bleeding Mike in the back. Will Gus survive? I hope so! That is the amazing thing about this show—before, I was totally rooting for Walt to eliminate Gustavo, but as Walt has become more and more unlikable, I find myself on Team Gus! I really look forward to this show every week!

In tonight’s episode, “Crawl Space,” Walt takes drastic action to protect his secret, and Gus and Skyler’s efforts to solve Ted’s financial problems hit a wall.

One of my family’s favorite shows last season was IRT: Deadliest Roads. Here is the description from the network: “Three teams of North American truckers take on South America’s Andes Mountains, where they’re out to prove they have what it takes to haul any load over any road. Veterans and rookie drivers alike will have to battle thick Amazon jungles, landslides, and cliffside routes where any mistake can be fatal. It’s only the first trip, but already the roads are forcing even the most seasoned veterans to second-guess their decision to challenge The Death Road.. Along the world’s longest continental mountain range of the Andes, veteran truck drivers must overcome extreme conditions, including bad weather, high cliffs, dangerous highways, and much more to safely transport massive loads of cargo to businesses.”

But honestly, that doesn’t paint the true picture of what those roads are like. If you’ve seen the original Ice Road Truckers, you’ll know how scary those roads can be sometimes. Those have nothing on the roads of India last season and South America this season. Tires are within inches (or less…) of complete drop offs, vehicles pass by each other just as close. It really is the scariest thing I’ve ever seen, and the craziest part is, it is completely real. This season, there are 6 drivers, although I have a feeling at least 1 will drop out early on, much like 1 of the original 3 did at the beginning of season 1. I will say that Lisa, the only female driver on both Ice Road Truckers & IRT: Deadliest Roads, has more… cajones than anyone I’ve ever seen. She may get scared, but damn. lol

Tonight is the season premiere of The Good Wife, on its new night. As each season has progressed, we have seen Alicia Florrick grow more and more liberated and strong. When we last visited Lockhart/Gardner, Alicia had discovered that Kalinda had slept with her husband and moved Peter into his own apartment. Then she spent the night with her boss, Will, finally acting on their long-term feelings for one another. Meanwhile, Cary teamed up with Peter, and Eli Gold took a role in the firm. It’s great that we get both interesting cases of the week, as well as wonderful drama outside of the courtroom and neither feels like it is getting short-changed. I’ve really enjoyed the first two seasons and can’t wait to see how all of these new relationships play out. However, this new time slot is going to be a DVR nightmare, due to all of the inevitable football overruns.

In tonight’s episode, “A New Day,” Alicia must put aside personal distractions as she defends a Muslim student accused of murdering a Jewish classmate.

Really Kyle, both Amazing Race and The Good Wife, it’s a little scary how many of the same shows we watch.

  2. Kyle says:

It’s like we’re twins…oh wait, I already have one of those! (Although he doesn’t watch a lot of TV due to his 3 & 5-year-olds, so we probably watch more of the same shows.) It helps that I probably watch more than half of the major stuff that airs, so odds are pretty good (though I don’t watch Jenny’s 2nd & 3rd choices). 🙂

Also really enjoyed the Pan Am pilot, so will be watching that this season.

  3. Jenny says:

Oh please, I’m right there with you guys. lol I don’t watch The Good Wife, but you know TAR will be on in my house tonight. haha

  4. Megan says:

Well I’ll be watching Pan Am, The Good Wife, TAR,and CSI:Miami tonight, I watch Breaking Bad but I wait for DVD release, it’s easier for getting it in Canada.
