The season premiere of The Big Bang Theory did not disappoint! We found out that Penny and Raj did not actually sleep together and that Leonard and Priya are trying to work through their long distance romance. Sheldon freaked out over a chair Penny found outside and was using in her apartment, and he tried to use his keen sense of trickery—and annoyance—to get her to ditch it. Penny also landed a hemorrhoid commercial and decided not to move back to Nebraska. Thank goodness our favorite group of friends have rebonded and continue to bring us the same old side splitting fun we have come to love!

On tonight’s episode, Amy and Leonard try to become better acquainted, while Bernadette, Howard, and Mrs. Wolowitz spend the weekend together.

One of the most interesting and different pilots last week was the premiere of Person of Interest, on CBS. The premise is pretty cool—Finch (a computer genius) and Reese (former CIA) teaming up to prevent violent crimes by using their own brand of vigilante justice. The only problem is, they only get social security numbers. They don’t know what is going to happen to the person or how that person is involved. For example, last week, they (& we) thought they were trying to prevent something bad happening to a female attorney, when in reality, it turned out she was the bad guy. Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson are great teamed up and the show could be VERY intriguing.

On tonight’s episode, when they are given the Social Security number of a teenager who was killed two years ago, Reese and Finch begin to question the infallibility of The Machine. Meanwhile, Finch flashes back to The Machine’s origin and how it was developed.

I thought I was going to be done with Grey’s Anatomy after last year’s season finale, but I watched the premiere because I couldn’t help myself. Once again, I find myself sucked in and addicted to my Grey’s. The season premiere was heartbreaking, with Christina and her abortion, Meredith and Derek’s relationship problems, and Mer-Der losing custody of thier little girl.

On tonight’s episode, the chief makes a career-changing decision. Cristina and Owen try to put their relationship on an even keel. April continues to struggle in her new role. Meanwhile, the fifth-year residents finally get a shot at their first solo surgeries.

I had originally planned to write up something from the NBC Comedy line-up for tonight, and I do still highly recommend watching Community, Parks and Recreation and The Office (and I’ll even be checking out the second episode of Whitney). However, I discovered one of the most bizarre cooking competition shows I have ever seen, called Sweet Genius. The briefest way I can describe this show is Chopped: Willy Wonka Edition.

In each episode, four pastry chefs compete to impress judge Chef Ron Ben-Israel with their desserts. In each of the 3 rounds (Frozen, Baked and Chocolate), the chefs are given at least one mandatory ingredient, as well as some inspiration on which to base their dessert. In the middle of the round, Chef Ron presses his giant button and an additional mandatory ingredient comes down a big conveyor belt and the competitors must incorporate that, as well. For example, in last week’s Chocolate round, the chefs were given Black Garlic and an inspiration of a cat. Later in the round, they were given a new mandatory ingredient of Gummy Fish, followed by Vanilla Wafer Cookies. At the end of the round, Chef Ron eliminates one contestant who has not displayed Sweet Genius. The whole show is completely insane, absurd, and hilarious. It is shocking that these contestants can actually come up with good desserts with all of the disruptions and distractions. I have no idea how Chef Ron is able to keep a straight, stoic face throughout all of the insanity. You really need to see this show to believe it!

On tonight’s episode, “Hidden Genius,” high heels provide inspiration for frozen desserts, which must include salt-and-vinegar potato chips. The second challenge features a reptilian inspiration and a childhood treat. And in the third round, masquerade masks and candy apples challenge the pastry chefs.

If you haven’t been tuning in to the witchy wonder, The Secret Circle, you’re missing out. The devlish writing and the wicked cast chemistry make for quite the magical concoction! This teen cult drama is only a few episodes in, but it’s definitely conjured up the ratings. Teenage drama mixed with a little bit of spellbinding fun, it’s always the recipe for great TV watching. Young and old can tune in and enjoy the mystical elements and the healthy dose of the supernatural to make for some fun escapism.

Tonight, Cassie agrees to go to the dance with a super cute jock, and Melissa tries to get closer to Nick. Meanwhile, Faye works on learning to control her powers, and a man from Dawn’s past shows up in town and starts asking about the Circle.

Last week’s premiere of The Mentalist was shocking in a lot of ways. Patrick Jane was found innocent of the murder of the man he shot in the season finale. He thinks he was set up because the gun the man had been holding was missing, and now he believes he did not kill Red John. Was the man just another of Red John’s stooge? Personally, I think Red John is the boss dude, who is a total jackass. The case had everything to do with the man Jane killed, and it was fun to figure out that the dead guy & his wife were also serial killers. Creepy…

On tonight’s episode, “Little Red Book,” with Lisbon suspended and the rest of the team reassigned, Jane is reinstated as a CBI consultant and forced to work with a new team. During the investigation, Jane conspires to bring his former team back together. Reed Diamond (Franklin & Bash, 24, Homicide: Life on the Streets) guest stars.

It’s true, I do watch a lot of shows because of the cast, and The Vampire Diaires is one of those shows. Yes, the storylines are fabulous, but with a cast that is as amazingly sexy as this one, it would be worth watching even if the stories were having a rough patch. That said, the story with Stefan going wild and Damon having sexual tension with Elena is great. I love Elena with Damon, because deep down inside, we all need a bad boy in our lives.

On tonight’s episode, Klaus and Stefan travel to Chicago, where Stefan is reunited with a vampire who was in love with him decades earlier. Meanwhile, Damon and Elena follow Stefan’s trail, and Tyler worries about Caroline, turning to her mom for help.

The new NBC drama, Prime Suspect, wasn’t everybody’s cup of tea. A lot of people found the lead unlikeable. I didn’t. I didn’t like the way the guys treated her, and I felt like that gave her plenty of reason to be bitchy. I really liked the show, and I really enjoyed Maria Bello as Jane Timoney. Hopefully things will even out with the guys on the squad and Timoney, and people will begin to enjoy it more.

On tonight’s episode, Jane is called into Duffy’s homicide and kidnapping case after Sweeney calls for all hands on deck. Duffy gets irritated with Jane after she suggests talking with the deceased woman’s employees. Meanwhile, Jane meets Matt’s son for the first time.

  1. Megan says:

Kyle- I am looking forward to checking out Sweet Genius now. Thanks.

Jenny- I also really enjoyed Prime Suspect, and she had every reason to be bitchy, those boys were obnoxious. Besides everyone always says ‘bitch’ like it’s a bad thing… it’s not always.
