If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/25/11

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, and Happy Holidays to those who don’t! It may be Christmas, but there are a couple of noteworthy things on, so Kyle & I wanted to make sure you were aware! I’m not listing it, but if you are a fan of The Next Iron Chef, Geoffrey Zakarian, who won last week, is competing for the first time as an Iron Chef tonight on Food Network at a special time of 9/8c. Now, here’s what we think you should be watching tonight with your family!

Leverage is one of those shows that rarely disappoints me. I enjoy seeing Nate & his gang work to take down the bad guys and help the wronged party get what they deserve. The last couple of episodes were fun, because we got to see the girls as the main focus two weeks ago, and then last week, we caught the boys’ side of things. It was interesting putting together the two episodes in my head into one big episode. For the last season and a half, especialy, we’ve seen relationships grow and change. Parker and Hardison are quickly becoming the couple you can’t help but love and root for. Nate and Sophie, on the other hand, have had a bumpy ride. He needs to figure out what he wants and she needs to figure out if she can handle Nate as a functioning alcoholic who has a rough history he isn’t quite over.

On tonight’s episode, “The Lonely Hearts Job,” while searching for a philanthropist’s missing wife, the team comes up against a grifter ring running a web of sophisticated Sweetheart Scams.” Now, Nate must learn how to steal hearts… or risk losing Sophie’s for good.

I can’t wait for tonight’s Doctor Who Christmas episode. Over the past week of light TV, I have been re-watching all of series 5 and 6 in anticipation. When we last left the Doctor, he had just faked his own death in order to change a fixed point in time. Then he headed off in the TARDIS, leaving his companions behind. Back on Earth, River told Amy and Rory the truth – that the Doctor was still alive.

The Doctor Who Christmas episode is something I really look forward to each year. These stand-alone adventures are always fun and magical. It’s so nice that BBC America is finally airing these on the same day as the UK, because it’s great to experience these episodes on Christmas, and we don’t have to avoid (in my best River Song voice…) “Spoilers”.

In tonight’s episode, “The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe,” it’s Christmas Eve, 1938, and Madge Arwell comes to the aid of an injured Spaceman Angel, who promises to repay her kindness. Three years later, she makes a wish that leads her family into a magical wintry world, and the best Christmas ever.

Be sure to check out this short online prequel for tonight’s episode:

BBC America is airing Doctor Who all day today, including past Christmas episodes, so when you get tired of watching A Christmas Story for the 5th time this year on TBS, why not switch the channel over to some Who?!
