If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/1/12

Happy New Year! It’s the first day of 2012, and I don’t know about you, but I hope this year is better than 2011 was! Between job issues, school issues, and family drama, 2011 was a LONG year for my family! One thing that didn’t disappoint was all the great TV. Hopefully the new TV we get starting tonight will be as good or better. To see how the year will start out, check it out!

Jenny’s Choice

When I saw the first commercial for Food Network’s latest cooking competition, I actually squealed and bounced in my seat. I absolutely LOVE Guy Fieri, and I watch Rachael Ray all the damn time, so combine the two of them into Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off, and Jenny is a happy camper.

In this six-episode competition series, Rachael and Guy will each serve as coaches and mentors to eight multi-talented celebrities, all of whom are passionate about food and cooking. Divided into “Team Rachael” and “Team Guy,” each episode features celebrity contestants battling it out in a fun, fast-paced culinary fight-to-the-finish, with the two bottom-rated contestants from the losing team going head-to-head in a blind tasting elimination challenge. In the end, the last contestant standing is crowned king or queen of the Celebrity Cook-Off and wins $50,000 for the charity they are playing to support. Contestants include Alyssa Campanella (the current Miss USA), actors Cheech Marin and Lou Diamond Phillips, singers Aaron Carter, Coolio, Joey Fatone, and Taylor Dane, and Olympic gold medalist swimmer Summer Sanders.

I’m not sure yet who I’m rooting for, but I saw Joey Fatone and Lou Diamond Phillips on Rachael’s daytime show the other day, and they were both a lot of fun, so as of right now, they are my top two picks. Who do you think will be fun to watch? Comment below and let me know! Also, be sure and check out Iron Chef America tonight, where Iron Chef Bobby Flay pairs up with Marcela Valladolid, who appears on Food Network’s Mexican Made Easy, and Iron Chef Masuhara Morimoto is paired with Andrew Zimmern, of Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods. Judges are Penn Jillette, Donatella Arpaia Stewart, and Simon Majumdar. That should be a FUN episode, too!

Tonight, I’m looking forward to another fun episode of Leverage. Last week, the gang went undercover at a bachelor auction, where they went head-to-head with another team of “crooks” running sweetheart scams. It was great to see Buffy’s Emma Caulfied as a guest star. I can always count on this show for a fun action/mystery that sometimes keeps me guessing up until the final “this is how we did it” flashback montage.

In tonight’s episode, “The Gold Job,” the sting is on when Nate’s high-tech squad infiltrates the cash-for-gold industry. The gang zeroes in on a crooked brother-and-sister team by leading them through an intricate treasure hunt.

Last season of Mob Wives left off with Drita and Karen at each other’s throats. Then again, Renee and Carla were at war, as well. It was never a dull moment in season one between the kids, the fights, the exes, the husbands, and the bitchery. Season two is going to be jam packed with the same and much more! There is even a new wife who will be added in this season. With all of that to look forward to, you’re not going want to miss a moment!

Tonight, on the season two premiere, Renee is excited for her full body plastic surgery. Drita and Carla, both as single women, are ready for the summer.

Tonight is the series premiere of Angry Boys on HBO. It’s a fabulous new comedy series from Chris Lilley, creator and star of the acclaimed hit, Summer Heights High. His new series is shot in mockumentary style and explores the lives, dreams, and aspirations of males in present-day society, spotlighting six characters, all portrayed by Lilley. From a pair of 17-year-old twin boys in Australia to a 24-year-old Los Angeles-based rapper, he does it all.

There’s something incredibly amusing about this premise, especially because Lilley himself is a comic genius. I am super excited about this premiere and think it’s a great way to start 2012! Check out the preview video below!

We start the series on the farm with twins Daniel and Nathan. We also see a guard at a detention center explaining her responsibilities to the inmates.

In the second episode, we follow California rapper, S. Mouse, as he charts a new direction for his career, much to the dismay of his father and record company. Meanwhile, Gran helps a troubled inmate adjust to his new surroundings, and Daniel objects to Nathan being sent to a special school.

To check out this hilarious new comedy, tune in to HBO starting at 10/9c, followed by the 2nd episode at 10:30/9:30c. Learn where to find episodes online of Angry Boys @ Clicker.

Can’t wait for Angry Boys–loved Summer Heights High. Also enjoyed (but not as much) his second series We Can Be Heroes (even though HBO never aired this, it is currently available on HBO GO on the iPad, and perhaps HBO On Demand).
