If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/10/12

As I write this, it’s Saturday night, which means we’re halfway through the weekend. Today just flew by, and I’m sure Sunday won’t be any slower. The only difference is there’s some fantastic TV on Sunday night, and we definitely have opinions on what you should be watching. So read on to find out. 😉

Last week’s premiere of The Glades was great. I loved the case of the older millionaire with the young, hot wife who looked to be the best suspect for a while in her husband’s death. Of course, then we learned that no, it was her ex-lover and the leader of group of UFO enthusiasts, who plotted together to kill the old man before he could patch things up with his wife, renew their vows, and change his will back to give all his money to her, rather than the organization he’d been a member of for a couple of years. One of my favorite scenes was when Jim used the guy’s own EMP (electromagnetic pulse) to shut down the truck he and his co-conspirator were escaping in, and then when he was standing there with his gun out, the dummy unclipped his seat belt and started to climb out of the truck and run… Where did he think he was going? Jim was RIGHT THERE. lol It was fantastic.

Then, of course, there was all the Callie/Jim stuff. *love* Poor Callie is having an awful time finding a new job. I have a friend who is a nurse, and the hospital she was working at closed down last year. She was lucky that she was able to find a job pretty quickly and easily, but it’s a pretty good distance from home so she has a commute. So I felt for Callie, who even this week is struggling. But still, I loved the relationship stuff in last week’s premiere. 🙂

On tonight’s episode, “Poseidon Adventure,” a beautiful synchronized swimmer in an elaborate mermaid costume washes ashore dead, and the clues lead Jim to a bittersweet love triangle and a hip hop mogul trying to turn the mermaid show into a multimillion-dollar phenomenon. On the home front, Callie hits a wall in her job search, and Jim realizes the best opportunity for her is the one in Atlanta she passed up to be with him.

Check it out tonight on A&E at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Glades @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/DVRing Cupcake Wars, Food Network Star, Head Games, & Longmire.

It’s the most magical time of the year. No, not Christmas… The True Blood season premiere! 😀 I have been not-so-patiently waiting for this day since the season finale last September. When we left our Bon Temps residents, Jason and Jessica had connected on a physical and emotional level, Sookie realized she loved both Eric and Bill, and Tara got shot. I don’t have any idea where we are going this season, but whereever we go, it’s going to be delicious, messy, sexy, and intense.

On tonight’s premiere, “Turn! Turn! Turn!” Sookie and Lafayette clean up a mess; Bill and Eric receive a visit from the Vampire Authority; Alcide’s werewolf pack goes after Sam; Jessica enjoys her freedom; Jason is visited by Steve Newlin; and Alcide warns Sookie.

To watch kick-ass vampires that don’t sparkle, tune in to HBO tonight at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of True Blood @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Drop Dead Diva, The Glades, Secret Millionaire, The 66th Annual Tony Awards, and Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition.

Tonight, the first season of Veep comes to an end. Last week, we found out that Selina had a miscarriage, ending the whole pregnancy scare (a little too quickly). Meanwhile, the issue of the ousting of one of Selina’s Secret Service agents was starting to become a problem, so Mike tried to persuade the agent to back off, but he only made things worse. Meanwhile, Selina asked Gary to break up with Ted on her behalf, and the staffers were afraid for their jobs after a rumor spread that Selina was going to fire someone.

I’ve really been enjoying this fun, fast-moving show…and am shocked at the sheer number and creative ways that the writers manage to squeeze in the F-word each week. Selina is so incompetent that it’s both amazing and amusing that she’s in the position she’s in. She would be lost without the help of her staffers…but most of them are just as incompetent as well! While Julia Louis-Dreyfus will forever be Elaine from Seinfeld, she has done a great job finding new roles to reinvent her career: first, The New Adventures of Old Christine, and now Veep. I’m happy we will be getting another season of Selina Meyer’s antics next year.

In tonight’s episode, “Tears,” an Ohio gubernatorial candidate balks at Selina’s endorsement due to her current unpopularity, but Mike and Amy try to make the best of the vice president’s emotions during their meeting. Meanwhile, Dan can’t shake the clean-jobs bill debacle, especially when it could be the subject of a Congressional hearing.

Don’t miss the finale tonight on HBO at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Veep @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording True Blood, The Glades, Food Network Star, MythBusters, Head Games, Drop Dead Diva, Longmire, The Big C, and The 66th Annual Tony Awards.
