Today is supposed to be the hottest day of the year so far for us here in the Kansas City area. I know it’s really warm in a lot of the country, too. I hope everyone finds ways to stay cool! Tonight, sit in fromt of the fan or air conditioner and put your feet up, because there’s some fantastic TV on! Here’s what we think you should be watching. 🙂
Rather than go with my normal pick for tonight, I’m going to recommend the show that comes on after it… A&E’s new drama, Longmire is tons better than I’d thought it might be. When it first came out, I was worried it would be set in the past, too “western” for me, or whatever. But my husband & I sat down together today to watch the pilot, and we ended up watching all three episodes. If you haven’t heard of it, basically the show is set in Wyoming and is based on the Walt Longmire Mystery novels by best-selling author Craig Johnson. It stars Australian actor Robert Taylor (I couldn’t tell for the life of me that he is Australian. lol) as Walt Longmire, the charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming, along with Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips (who is sorely underused, imo), Bailey Chase, Cassidy Freeman, and Adam Bartley.
Walt’s wife died a year before the show starts, and the whole year, he’s been kind of…struggling. He’s not really been giving a hundred percent to the job, so much so that one of his deputies has decided to run against him for sheriff. We also learned in the 2nd episode that Walt’s adult daughter (an attorney) is secretly dating (…sleeping with…) that same deputy. That just ticks me off. lol Katee Sackhoff is great. Her character, Vic, is a relatively new hire there at the department. Then they also have one other deputy who is honestly one of the most inept men… lol But together, they are fun. Lou Diamond Phillips plays Henry Standing Bear, a friend & confidant to Walt. I adore him, and I love his character so far.
I’m interested to see how they handle Walt’s daughter & the deputy. Obviously Walt has to win the reelection or the show wouldn’t be what it is. Whether or not they will drag it out the entire 10-episode season, I have no idea, but I can’t wait to see more.
On tonight’s episode, “The Cancer,” Longmire seeks Henry Standing Bear’s assistance in a case involving two dead bodies and a Mexican drug cartel.

True Blood is a weekly dose of mind blowing awesome TV for me, and if it isn’t for you, then you’re doing it wrong. 😉 This season started off with so many great story lines, including Debbie being killed, Tara being a vampire, Eric and Bill being captured by the authority, and Terry dealing with some issues from his war days. My favorite new characters this season are Scott Foley as Terry’s old war buddy Patrick, and Christopher Meloni as vampire authority leader Roman. Foley is incredibly sexy, and Meloni is perfect as the bad ass. Great additions.
What I found amusing last week was how shocked Sookie and LaFayette were when Tara was not only a crazy vampire, but in the end, hated them for allowing her to be turned into what she hates. That in Tara’s world is a fate worse than death, and in our world, it is the dragging on of an annoying character.
On tonight’s episode, “Whatever I Am, You Made Me,” Bill and Eric must barter with the of the Vampire Authority for their lives; Sookie asks for Pam’s help; Andy gets a visit from Gordon and Barbara Pelt; Jason reunites with his former high school teacher.

Tonight, TNT kicks off an all new reality competition show called The Great Escape. It’s from the same folks that brought us The Amazing Race, and it does have some of that same action and adventure. Each week, three teams of two try to escape from some notable location. In tonight’s premiere, that is Alcatraz. In order to win, the teams race to complete the four stages and make it to the rendezvous point first. Each stage is some sort of puzzle they must solve—things like finding the key to their cell, figuring out the combination to a lock, or managing to open a box containing their map. However, the puzzles aren’t their only problems. As they run from stage to stage, they must also avoid the patrolling guards. If they are caught by a guard, they must go all the way back to the beginning!
I’ve seen the first two episodes, and they do a great job of keeping up the excitement and tension—especially when the guards come into play. I can only imagine how tense it must be for the players! They also do a good job of letting you get to know the three teams better. You really get a sense of each pair’s background and relationship. It’s amazing that they are able to get access to such iconic locations for each episode, and I can’t wait to see what other places contestants will be escaping from later this season.
Play along tonight on TNT at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Great Escape @ Clicker.
