If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/17/13

I’m in sunny Florida on a family vacation, but I’m already wondering how I’m going to catch up on all of this week’s new TV! Tonight, there are a lot of shows returning, including the rescheduled double-episode Haven season finale and a couple fun new cable shows I’m interested in checking out. I might need to stage a Hunger Games-type battle for the TV remote! Here’s what we suggest you check out tonight…

Tonight, I spy an all-new season of Archer on FX! When we last saw the ISIS gang, they had been sent into outer space on a mission and somehow managed to get their space shuttle back to Earth after the rest of the crew died. Archer made it through without a scratch, while the rest of the gang was nursing bumps and bruises, and Ray found himself once again wheelchair-bound.

What I love about this show is that it’s not afraid to be totally politically incorrect and crass, and it holds nothing back. Archer is most certainly an adult cartoon, and I’m often shocked at what they are able to get on the air! I really enjoy how the series explores both sides of the spy world. It is able to garner such hilarious moments from both the actual spy missions as well as the behind-the-scenes office politics. The voice cast is extremely talented, and I can’t wait to see what the ISIS gang gets up to this season.

On tonight’s premiere, “Fugue and Riffs,” Archer visits a spa for a weekend in an attempt to rid himself of amnesia.

See the funny tonight on FX at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Archer @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching/recording Last Resort, Grey’s Anatomy, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, The Office, 1600 Penn, Legit, Sweet Genius, King of the Nerds, Suits, and Haven.

kingofthenerds2smallWhen I saw the first promo for King of the Nerds, I was definitely intrigued. I’m kind of a geeky nerd, and my husband is definitely a geeky nerd (I say geeky nerd because geeks and nerds are two different things, and both of us have qualities of each. 😉 ), so I knew this would be the perfect show for us. After seeing the pilot, I know it is. Hosted by actors Robert Carradine and Curtis Armstrong (Revenge of the Nerds), the show is the ultimate nerd-off. The series will follow 11 fierce competitors from across the nerd spectrum as they set out to win $100,000 and be crowned the greatest nerd of them all. There are a wide range of skills, occupations, nerdiness, and smarts on the show and just some highly entertaining people and situations. I think it’ll be a lot of fun for everyone.

I got to speak one-on-one (well, two…) with both hosts, and they were a lot of fun to talk to. They were both incredibly down-to-earth, funny, and seemed really excited to share about the new show. To check out what these true nerds at heart had to say, you can read the interview here: Robert Carradine and Curtis Armstrong Interview.

On tonight’s episode, “Welcome to Nerdvana,” eleven contestants meet each other and hosts Curtis Armstrong and Robert Carradine for the first time, while also exploring their new home, Nerdvana. In the first Nerd War, teams are picked and friendships and alliances are made. In the Nerd-Off, a supersized game of strategy will determine which nerd is to be banished from Nerdvana forever.

Don’t miss the fun and games tonight on TBS at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of King of the Nerds @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing 1600 Penn.

greysanatomy117smallGrey’s Anatomy continues to amaze me with its ability to pull on my heartstrings while tickling my funny bone all at the same time. (Cheesy, I know 😉 ). All kidding aside, this season of Grey’s has made me fall in love with the show all over again. I remember when it first aired—the rush at the end of the night to get everything done so I could sit down and watch the show in peace (albeit, before DVRs). After a few rocky story lines (Ghost Denny, I’m pointing at you—even though you were damn fine.), I almost threw the towel in completely, but I held on, and now, I’m being paid back weekly for my faithfulness.

On tonight’s episode, “The End is the Beginning is the End,” Derek, Meredith, Arizona, and Cristina receive news about the plane crash lawsuit; Richard avoids Catherine’s advances; Jackson takes on one of Mark Slone’s former patients.

To see how the lawsuit unfolds, tune into ABC at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Grey’s Anatomy @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching American Idol, Haven, and The Vampire Diaries.

tvd117smallLast week, news was shared at the TCA that there will be a backdoor pilot from The Vampire Diaries into a new show about The Originals. It will be very interesting to see how the pilot goes, especially since The Secret Circle bombed last year. This season of The Vampire Diaries has been very interesting so far, with Jeremy becoming a hunter, the search for the cure, and the addition of Hayley was great.

On tonight’s episode, “After School Special,” Rebekah appears at Mystic Falls High, forcing Stefan, Elena, and Caroline into answering her questions about the cure, Bonnie’s father becomes Interim Mayer, Professor Shane continues to encourage Bonnie to believe in her power, and Klaus is impatient with the progress Damon and Matt are making while training Jeremy.

Find out how Klaus and Rebekah wreak havoc on The CW at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Vampire Diaries @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching 30 Rock, American Idol, Parks and Recreation, and Oprah’s Next Chapter: Lance Armstrong.
