Tonight is the series premiere of The Following on FOX at 9/8c. When notorious serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) escapes from death row, the FBI calls former agent Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) to consult on the case. Having since withdrawn from the public eye, Hardy was responsible for Carroll’s capture in 2003, after Carroll murdered 14 female students on the Virginia college campus where he taught literature. Hardy is a walking textbook of all-things Carroll. He knows him better than anyone; he is perhaps Carroll’s only psychological and intellectual match. But the Ryan Hardy who broke the Carroll case years ago isn’t the same man today. Wounded both physically and mentally by his previous pursuit of this serial killer, it’s been a long time since Hardy has been in the field. This new investigation is his redemption, his call to action. In contrast to the original investigation years ago, Hardy isn’t calling the shots anymore. He works closely with an FBI team, which includes young, razor-sharp Mike Weston (Shawn Ashmore) and FBI Specialist Debra Parker (Annie Parisse), who is brought in to lead the investigation into Carroll and his followers. Although Weston seems to idolize him, most of the team considers Hardy to be more of a liability than an asset. But Hardy proves his worth when he uncovers that Carroll was covertly communicating with a network of followers in the outside world. It quickly becomes obvious that he has more planned than just a prison escape. The FBI’s investigation leads Hardy back to Claire Matthews (Natalie Zea), Carroll’s ex-wife and the mother of the criminal’s young son, Joey (newcomer Kyle Catlett). Close during Hardy’s initial investigation, Hardy turns to Claire for insight into Carroll’s next move. The tension rises when Carroll’s accomplices kidnap his intended last victim (guest star Maggie Grace) from 10 years ago. Hardy becomes ever more determined to end Carroll’s game when he realizes that the psychopath intends to finish what he started. The intense, spellbinding drama will follow Hardy and the FBI as they are challenged with the ever-growing web of murder around them, orchestrated by the devious Carroll, who dreams of writing a novel with Hardy as his protagonist. But since anyone anywhere could be a follower, how do you know who to trust?

Tonight is also the series premiere of Swamp Hunters on TruTV at 10:30/9:30c. D’Roy and Dustin Taylor are relic hunters in Louisiana’s huge Honey Island Swamp. Working with their extended family, the father-and-son team searches for lost treasures left behind by the kind of pirates, outlaws, gangsters and militiamen that traditionally called this inhospitable environment home. And when they find something worth selling, they head to the local antique dealers, collectors and pawnshops to hawk their goods. Swamp Hunters follows D’Roy and Dustin as they set out to turn muddy relics into pure gold.

Tonight is the 2-hour series premiere of The Taste on ABC at 8/7c. One blind spoonful could change everything on this show, an exhilarating one-hour cooking competition that puts 16 culinary competitors – from pro chefs to home cooks — to the fire with four of the world’s most notable masters of the food world who will judge their creations based on a blind taste test. In this pressure-filled contest, the taste in a single spoonful can catapult a contender to the top or send him packing. The series features no-holds barred chef Anthony Bourdain, British food star Nigella Lawson, expert chef/author Ludo Lefebvre, and chef/restaurateur Brian Malarkey. These four culinary superstars and mentors will each coach a team of four competing pro and amateur cooks chosen from a nationwide casting call, as they vie to create the best tasting dish in a state of the art kitchen. In each episode, the groups will face team and individual challenges with a variety of culinary themes through various elimination rounds. At the end of each episode, the mentors will have to judge the competitors’ dishes blind — with no knowledge of whose creation they’re sampling, what they’re eating, how it was prepared or whom they could be sending home.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Edge of America on Travel Channel at 9/8c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 9:30/8:30c. Calf Testicle Festivals in Oklahoma… Lobster Boat Races in Maine… Tall Bike Jousting in Oregon… Americans will do just about anything to entertain themselves…and entertainment journalist Geoff Edgers wants to know why we do the things we do in the name of fun. Edgers investigates his way across the country in search of all-American fun. Follow Edgers as he immerses himself in American subcultures, and dives head first into the unexpected and bizarre world of entertainment found on the Edge of America.

Finally, tonight is the series premiere of Ramsay Behind Bars on BBC America at 9/8c. Gordon Ramsay is going to prison to attempt the impossible: Make offenders pay their way. Most prisoners sit around all day, while the public forks out for them to do so. And it costs taxpayers a fortune to keep criminals in prison – £38,000 a year, £2 billion a year. In a time of recession and budget cuts, this money has to be found at the expense of schools and hospitals. In this explosive new series, Gordon’s going to be locked up in the infamous Brixton Prison where he’s going to try and set up a catering company within the prison. He will grab some of the nation’s toughest prisoners and teach them to cook on the inside to sell on the outside. Gordon’s had first-hand experience of how prison has shaped his brother, but now he’s going to experience life inside prison himself. There’s a host of forces arranged against Gordon: Prison bureaucracy; the unreliable criminal workforce and skeptical retailers. But above all – can Gordon persuade the great British public to eat food made by prisoners?
