If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/25/14

There have been so many new and returning shows this week that it’s already starting to get tough to keep up with everything! And tonight, there’s five more returning/new shows, including the new Must Shonda TV Thursday lineup on ABC. So check out which of these shows we’re recommending you watch tonight.

parenthood925smallTonight, Parenthood returns to NBC for the start of its 13-episode final season. When we last saw the Braverman clan, Ryan has been discharged from the Army and left Amber to go back home to Wyoming. However, we saw Amber with a pregnancy test. Sarah and Hank kissed and seemed to finally be willing to explore a relationship. There also seemed to be a glimmer of hope that Julia and Joel might get back together. Meanwhile, Haddie came home from school and came out to the family; Zeek and Camille sold the family home; and Kristina and Adam were building a new school for Max and other marginalized kids like him.

Parenthood is such a well-written drama that knows how to deliver the emotion. It will be sad once this season is over and we won’t be able to spend time each week with the Bravermans. However, I’m really glad the creators have gone into this final season knowing these are the last 13 episodes and can write to a satisfying conclusion.

On tonight’s episode, “Vegas,” Sarah and Zeek head to Las Vegas to celebrate Zeek’s birthday as the sixth season opens. Elsewhere, Amber deals with adulthood and new life changes; and Adam and Kristina face the pressure of having their charter school ready in time for opening.

See the beginning of the end tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, Bones, and Haven.

bones925smallI’m so excited because Bones starts its TENTH season tonight. Last season ended with a bang — quite literally. In one of my favorite episodes ever, Booth sent Brennan & Christine away with Max as he prepared for what seemed like the apocalypse. There was a huge, violent shoot-out with three trained mercenaries who were there to kill him (& I’m guessing Brennan if she’d been there from the beginning) because he and the Jeffersonian team were uncovering the conspiracy that leads who knows how high up in the FBI and government. In the process, he was shot and nearly killed, but Brennan found out some information on the drive and decided Booth needed to know it ASAP, so she hustled back to the house and got there just in time to help save Booth. At the hospital, Booth went into surgery, and when Brennan finally pushed past everyone and rushed back to see him after he was out, she came upon a roadblock in the form of men in black suits with ear pieces, handcuffs, and guns. Booth had been arrested and was handcuffed to his hospital bed, charged with the murder of three “FBI agents” who’d supposedly been there to arrest or question him. Of course, we all know that’s not who they were and why they were there, but the cover-up goes deep, so…

I haven’t seen tonight’s premiere yet — and believe me, I’ve been keeping an eye on the press site! Darn you, Stephen Nathan! 😉 — but I have read a few things and seen pictures from the first episode. I won’t spoil anything, other than to say I can’t wait to see it because I know it’ll make me at least fairly happy…and Brennan bought a new home for them since there’s no way they can live in their old one.

On tonight’s episode, “The Conspiracy in the Corpse,” Brennan and the Jeffersonian team desperately work to clear Booth’s name & get him out of jail, and a 16-year-old corpse could be just the key to unravel the whole government conspiracy. Meanwhile, Daisy and Sweets have a surprise for the rest of the Jeffersonian team. John Boyd (Argo, 24) guest stars.

See if Brennan & the team are successful and find out what surprise Daisy & Sweets have in store for the team tonight on FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching Beat Bobby Flay.

getawaywithmurder925smallHow to Get Away with Murder is definitely one of the new shows of the season to keep an eye on, because it’s going to be stellar. Honestly, how could it not be with Viola Davis on board? She has got to be one of the most talented in Hollywood, with her credits including everything from movies to Broadway, and now she’s gracing our screens weekly — we are so lucky. Her character, Professor Annalise Keating, may very well be the sexiest, strongest, and most intense female characters to appear this season.

The show follows Keating as she gets entangled with four law students from her class. Little do they know that they will have to apply to real life what they have learned. Aside from the amazing idea behind the show, we are also getting a great cast and one that isn’t too bad on the eyes either. I’m looking forward to watching Jack Falahee (Rage, The Carrie Diaries), who plays Connor Walsh, work his magic on us weekly. Connor is going to be the one who wants to please the teacher the most, no matter how dark and twisted that path will be, and I’m super excited to see how naughty he is. If you aren’t sure about the show yet, please tune in and see exactly why you should be.

On tonight’s series premiere, “Pilot,” Annalise Keating is a tough-as-nails Criminal Law Professor, and when Wes Gibbins starts his first day at Middleton University, he has no clue what he’s walking into. In her class, “How to Get Away with Murder,” Annalise challenges her students to solve some of the most difficult criminal cases that her law firm takes on, and in the end, she selects a group of the smartest, most promising students to come work for her. The competition is on, and the students will stop at nothing to make sure they get to the head of the class.

To see just how far these students will go to impress the professor, tune in to ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Bones, Beat Bobby Flay, and The Biggest Loser.
