Tonight is the series premiere of The Affair on Showtime at 10/9c. The show stars Dominic West (The Wire) and Ruth Wilson (Luther), as well as Maura Tierney (ER) and Joshua Jackson (Fringe). It explores two marriages and the emotional and psychological effects of an extramarital affair. The provocative drama will be told from the male and female perspectives. Wilson plays Alison, a young woman waiting tables at a popular Hamptons diner, trying to piece her life back together in the wake of a personal tragedy. Her husband Cole (Jackson), struggles to keep it all together, both with his wife and the financially-strained ranch that has been in his family for generations. Their emotionally-charged marriage becomes even more complicated when Alison begins an affair with Noah (West), a New York City public school teacher and aspiring novelist who is spending the summer at his in-laws’ estate out on the island. Tierney plays Helen, Noah’s college sweetheart, best friend, mother of his children, lover and wife of 17 years.

Tonight is the series premiere of Jane the Virgin on The CW at 9/8c. When Jane Villanueva was a young girl, her grandmother, Alba, convinced her of two things: telenovelas are the highest form of entertainment, and women must protect their virginity at all costs. Now age 23, Jane is a driven young woman studying to become a teacher, nursing a dream to be a writer, and supporting herself with a job at a hot new Miami hotel. All the years of watching telenovelas with the two women who raised her–her sexy, young-at-heart mother, Xiomara, and her still-devout grandmother, Alba–have given Jane a slightly unrealistic view of romance. Still, she is determined not to make the same mistake her mother made: becoming an unwed mother at 16. Jane has managed to find a wonderful fiancé: a handsome, hard-working detective named Michael, who loves her enough to accept her detailed timeline for their future together and even her insistence on “saving herself” until they’re married. All of Jane’s meticulous life plans are turned upside down, however, when she sees her doctor for a routine check-up and is accidentally artificially inseminated with a specimen meant for the patient in the next room. Unbeknownst to her, the specimen belongs to Rafael, a reformed playboy and cancer survivor, who is not only the new owner of the hotel where Jane works but also a former summer crush of hers. A few weeks later, the unsuspecting Jane is faced with the most important decisions of her life. Will she continue with the pregnancy? How can she explain the situation to her fiancé and family? And what should she do about the wishes of the biological father, Rafael, and his scheming wife Petra? Though she has always tried to be the good girl who does the right thing, Jane’s life has suddenly become as dramatic and complicated as the telenovelas she has always loved. The series stars Gina Rodriguez (Filly Brown, The Bold and the Beautiful) as Jane, Justin Baldoni (Single Ladies, The Bold and the Beautiful) as Rafael, Brett Dier (Ravenswood) as Michael, Andrea Navedo (Law & Order: SVU, Golden Boy) as Xiomara, Yael Grobglas (Reign) as Petra, Ivonne Coll (Switched at Birth, The Bold and the Beautiful) as Alba, and Jaime Camil (Devious Maids) as Rogelio.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Tiny & Shekinah’s Weave Trip on VH1 at 9:30/8:30c. With the success of VH1’s hit show T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle, it is no surprise that T.I’s better half, Tameka “Tiny” Harris and her outrageous, laugh-out-loud funny best friend and hair stylist Shekinah Jo are getting their own spinoff. This new show follows the ladies on a hilarious cross country road trip promoting their new mobile hair salon business. With a true passion for flawless hair that just couldn’t be restricted to the Atlanta city limits, these ladies are taking their talents and philosophy that “everyone deserves fabulous hair” on the road. From The Voodoo Shop in New Orleans to the Navajo Nation in Arizona, no place is safe when Tiny and Shekinah hit the road. The dynamic duo is ready to leave their comfort zone and experience new cultures, all while being out of their element, starting their new business venture and adjusting to life on the road. Along the way expect an adventure no one will ever forget, a good dose of laughs, some mishaps, a bit of drama and a healthy amount of shenanigans as the ladies work to get their mobile salon off the ground.

Tonight is the series premiere of Things You Shouldn’t Say Past Midnight on DirecTV at 8/7c. Based on Peter Ackerman’s critically-acclaimed play of the same name, the show examines a variety of modern-day relationships through the conceit that nothing good happens after midnight. Set against the distinctly unique backdrop of Los Angeles, the fictional comedy series takes the viewer on a ten episode, twelve-hour collision course that begins at dusk and explodes at dawn. It stars Eddie Kaye Thomas, Kurt Fuller, Parker Young, Alanna Ubach, Collette Wolfe, Hugh Dillon, Ivo Nandi, Jimmy Ouyang, Jorge-Luis Pallo, Keith David, Kerri Kenney, Lin Shaye, & Stephen Schneider.

Following that is the series premiere of Uncle on DirecTV at 8:30/7:30c. This comedy series from BBC Three follows the comic misadventures and growing pains of Andy (Nick Helm), a thirty-something man-child who forges an unlikely alliance with his neurotic 12 year old nephew Erroll (Elliot Speller-Gillott), after being emotionally blackmailed by his sister Sam (Daisy Haggard) to care for the youngster. The seemingly simple task has near disastrous results, involving a faked injury, a car crash and a lot of lying but ultimately teaches Andy what it really means to be part of a family, albeit an unconventional one. The show also stars Con O’Neill, Esther Smith, Daniel Lawrence Taylor, and Sydney Rae White.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Car Matchmaker on Esquire at 9/8c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 9:30/8:30c. Former Seinfeld writer and talk show host, Spike Feresten, is the guy to go to when you need a new set of wheels. In this original 13-part series, Feresten finds a guy in need of a car, gets to know him, and then draws upon two decades of expertise and instinct to find three different cars perfectly suited to the buyer. At the end of each episode, a car is chosen. But will Spike agree with the buyer’s choice? For that matter, will you?

Tonight is also the series premiere of Marry Me on NBC at 9/8c. Six years ago, Annie (Casey Wilson, Happy Endings) and Jake (Ken Marino, Eastbound & Down) bonded over their mutual love of nachos and they’ve been inseparable ever since. Now, after returning from a romantic two-week island vacation, Jake’s all set to pop the question. Before he can ask, though, Annie lets loose on Jake for his inability to commit. She was expecting him to “put a ring on it” in paradise and now Jake’s perfect proposal is ruined. Not wanting to spend the next 60 years talking about that mess of a proposal, Jake and Annie decide to hold off on the engagement until they can do it right. Yet if history tells us anything, it’s when we really want things to go right that they all tend to go wrong. The only thing we know for sure is these two are destined to be together whether they can get it together or not.

Shot in cinema vérité style, the show focuses on the journeys of the young entrepreneurs living and working in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles, a neighborhood brimming with those on the cusp of breaking onto the national stage. Among the many locals featured are Gavin “Mizzle” McNeill, a self-taught creative director and the embodiment of the “do-it-yourself” ethic that is the code of the Fairfax scene. Mizzle is an entrepreneur and founder of the street wear line “Just Be Cool” who works to balance managing his store and growing his brand while also caring for his father, Fred McNeill, Sr., a former NFL Star who suffers from dementia and CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy); Felicia La Tour, Mizzle’s girlfriend, who grew up in the violence of poverty-plagued Stockton, CA, came to Fairfax to pursue her own dreams. As a successful makeup artist, she is now hoping to pay it forward by mentoring young women; Julian “Jay Uggh” Smith is a hip-hop emcee who is at the forefront of the music scene in Fairfax and the founder of CBG (“Chill Black Guys”) with fellow members Young Hawaii Slim and Corzillah, a charismatic rap group with the potential to cross over from underground notoriety to worldwide success; Gabe Brooks has all the abilities to become a star as a street BMX rider, but must face the ghosts of his gang-affiliated past; and Tori Bradley, a newcomer to Fairfax, who came to the block to be a part of the street-wear explosion while leaving behind an abusive relationship and now is passionate about raising awareness about domestic violence.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Freestyle Love Supreme on Pivot at 10:30/9:30c. From the creators of the Tony Award–winning musical In the Heights comes Freestyle Love Supreme, the ultimate improvised musical comedy show. Described by The New York Times as “masters in the art of freestyle rhyme,” the show mixes fully improvised freestyle-driven stage shows with impromptu, real-world sketches set in NYC to create a unique comedy with no script.

Finally, tonight is the series premiere of Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways on HBO at 11/10c. Directed by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, each one-hour episode of the unprecedented documentary series is devoted to a different American musical landmark, chronicling the history, cultural environment and people defining that city’s unique musical identity.
