thelionguardsmallTonight, the Disney Channel is airing an all-new animated special set in the world of The Lion King. The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar is the one-hour preview for a new animated series coming to Disney in January. Simba (Rob Lowe The Grinder) and Nala’s (Gabrielle Union, Being Mary Jane) cub Kion (Max Charles, The Strain) is growing up and wants to prove that he’s ready to follow in his father’s footsteps. The Lion Guard has been protecting the Pride Lands for ages and has always been comprised solely of lions. However, now that he is the leader of the group, Kion wants to assemble a more diverse group of animal friends, each with his or her own talents, to protect their home land from hyena Janja (Andrew Kishino) and his sidekicks, Cheezi (Vargus Mason) and Chungu (Kevin Schon).

The new Lion Guard consists of cheetah Fuli (Diamond White, Haunted Hathaways) who brings her speed, hippopotamus Beshte (Dusan Brown, About a Boy) who brings his strength, cattle egret Ono (Atticus Shaffer, The Middle) who brings his excellent sight, and honey badger Bunga (Joshua Rush) who brings his bravery. Some other familiar faces will also return – Kion’s sister Kiara (Eden Riegel, Youthful Daze), wisecracking meercat Timon (Kevin Schon) & warthog Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella), baboon Rafiki (Khary Payton, Teen Titans Go!), red-billed hornbill Zazu (Jeff Bennett), and the ghost of Mufasa (James Earl Jones). The cast of characters also includes Kiara’s lioness cub friends Tiifu (Sarah Hyland, Modern Family) and Zuri (Madison Pettis, The Fosters), and Janja’s minion vulture Mzingo (Jonny Rees, Hawaii Five-0).

While I never watched Disney’s previous Timon and Pumbaa animated spin-off series, I am really looking forward to checking out this new spin-off. I was a big fan of the original Lion King movie, and watching the trailer for tonight’s special, I was quickly reminded of why. It looks like this new show recaptures the humor, drama, and action that made that film franchise so great.

See if this new show will take you back to your childhood tonight on Disney Channel at 7/6c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, The Simpsons, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Family Guy, The Last Man on Earth, The Librarians, The Walking Dead, Into the Badlands, and Getting On.

brooklyn991122smallBrooklyn Nine-Nine never fails to make me laugh. Last week was no exception. Jake caught a break on a potential drug case he & Amy had been looking into, and they convinced Captain Holt to let them work it together, even though he didn’t usually assign couples to cases together. In their private life, they were having a disagreement over Jake’s mattress, which was old and lumpy and uncomfortable, and that spilled over into work, and they accidentally let the bad guy escape because of it. In the end, they caught him and Jake was convinced by Holt that he needed to take the step and buy a new mattress, not be afraid because it would mean he was scared of admitting his feelings for Amy. We also got to see another side to Rosa, when she showed a teenage boy she was mentoring through a Big Brother/Big Sister-type program. Of course, when he was picked up by the police, she started to have him arrested, but Terry convinced her to give the kid a break. It was sweet. And Boyle accidentally bumped his car into Captain Holt’s prized car, and at first Holt overreacted, but with prompting by Gina, he realized it and made it right.

On tonight’s episode, “Ava,” Terry leaves Jake in charge of entertaining his pregnant wife, Sharon, while he and Rosa head to Rikers to learn more about the Douglass Street murders. But when Sharon’s water breaks sooner than expected, crisis ensues at the precinct. Meanwhile, due to an internet outage, Amy and Charles must process all the paperwork by hand to avoid the bullpen from overflowing with perps and Holt is forced to confront his ex-boyfriend. Nick Offerman & Merrin Dungey guest star.

To see how Jake handles Sharon going into labor, tune in to FOX at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Guy’s Grocery Games, The Librarians, Agent X, Holiday Baking Championship, CSI: Cyber, & Cutthroat Kitchen.
