freakishsmallToday Hulu launches its latest original series Freakish. As the thriller opens, a group of diverse teenagers find themselves at the high school on a Saturday for various reasons – detention, sports, music, computers, etc. When there’s an explosion at the local chemical plant, a mysterious blanketing haze quickly makes its way towards the school, bringing with it a zombie-like disease. The students and limited faculty head for the building’s basement shelter, but there are limited supplies and some of the students get antsy and want to leave to check on their family members. However, they soon discover that a horde of mutant freaks is trying to break into the school to feast on them. Trapped, the students must fight for their survival and hope for someone to come to their rescue before it’s too late.

While most Hulu original series are released week-to-week, all ten episodes of the first season of Freakish are available for streaming today! I’ve seen the first 3 episodes, and it’s great to see they are going with the Netflix model for this series. It’s perfect for binging, as the story plays out like one long film, and you’re going to want to just keep continuing from one episode to the next! There are several twists and turns, and many students seem to have something to hide or seem to know more about what’s going on than they’re originally letting on. My initial reaction to the episodes I watched was that it was The Breakfast Club meets The Walking Dead, but I’m looking forward to seeing where the series goes in the remaining episodes.

Freakish comes from AwesomenessTV, which started as a YouTube channel, and the production company sticks to its roots by casting a lot of YouTube and Vine stars, including Melvin Gregg, Meghan Rienks, Liza Koshy, and Hayes Grier. However, the series also includes more experienced actors, like Leo Howard (Kickin’ It) and Chad L. Coleman (The Walking Dead, Arrow, The Expanse).

Binge watch all ten episodes of this fun new series now on Hulu.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Timeless, Gotham, Lucifer, and Supergirl.

2brokegirls1010smallI know 2 Broke Girls isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I quite enjoy it. Last season, Max and her older, attorney-from-the-West-Coast boyfriend Randy broke up because he had to get back to his life in California and she didn’t want to give up hers in New York (although, really, why on earth wouldn’t she want to?!). Sophie and Oleg were well on their way through Sophie’s pregnancy, which is really funny – I can’t imagine the two of them as parents! Caroline sold her story to Hollywood and was paid a good chunk of change for the movie rights. And then in the finale, the gang learned that Han had a gambling problem and owed a lot of money, so they and rest of the group worked together to get him out of it, which resulted in Max and Caroline owning part of the diner.

On tonight’s first episode, “And the Two Openings, Part 1,” as Max and Caroline, now part owners of the diner, put the finishing touches on their newly converted Dessert Bar, Max deals with the aftermath of her recent breakup with Randy, and Sophie and Oleg prepare for the birth of their baby. Then on the second episode, “And the Two Openings, Part 2,” when Sophie goes into labor just before the Dessert Bar’s grand opening, she demands that Max and Caroline be present for the birth. Also, the girls run into problems when they don’t secure a liquor license for their new venue. Ed Quinn, Andy Dick, & 2 Chainz guest star.

Catch up with Max, Caroline, and the rest of the diner gang tonight on CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Cake Wars, Kevin Can Wait, Halloween Baking Championship, Scorpion, & Conviction.

Megan’s Choice

thevoice2016smallTruthfully I was both excited and nervous for this season of The Voice because of Miley Cyrus…but I have been pleasantly surprised. Miley is actually very helpful, and she is also, as always, fun to watch. Alicia Keys reminds me of Pharrell when she speaks because she has all these deep descriptions and moving arguments. I am loving every moment so far.

Now we’ve reached the end of the blind auditions, and tonight marks the start of battle rounds, which is going to be a definite blood bath because of the incredible talent this year.

On tonight’s episode, “Battles Premiere,” the “battle rounds” begin, and the coaches enlist the help of the music industry’s top recording artists to offer their knowledge and skills as advisers. Miley Cyrus teams up with Joan Jett, Alicia Keys with Charlie Puth, Adam Levine with Sammy Hagar, and Blake Shelton with Bette Midler. In this phase, the coaches pit two of their own team members against each other in a dueling duet. After the vocal face-off, each coach must choose which artist from their team is the strongest and has the option of stealing losing artists from an opposing coach. Each coach has two steals during the battle rounds, where their artists will proceed to the knockout round.

To find out who the judges pick for their team, tune in to NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching The Big Bang Theory, Kevin Can Wait, Scorpion, and Lucifer.
