Tonight is the series premiere of Why We Hate on Discovery Channel at 10/9c. Throughout history, hate and conflict have been part of the human experience. From horrific extremes such as the Holocaust or the Rwandan genocide, when hate has fueled mass destruction, to everyday incidents like playground bullying or malicious trolling on social media, hate shapes our lives in myriad ways. And while all humans have the capacity to hate, few understand what sparks it and transforms it into a destructive force. Executive produced by filmmaking heavyweights Alex Gibney and Steven Spielberg and directed by Geeta Gandbhir and Sam Pollard, the show explores one of humanity’s most primal and destructive emotions: hate. At the heart of this timely series is the notion that if people begin to understand their own minds, they can find ways to work against hate and keep it from spreading.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Hip Hop: The Songs That Shook America on AMC at 12AM/11PMc. Each episode of this new documentary series focuses on a groundbreaking song pivotal to the evolution of American music and culture. Artists, their collaborators, and other influential musical and cultural figures deconstruct compositions, revisit the impact the song had on them personally, and dissect the socio-economic and cultural conditions that inspired the landmark work and gave voice to a generation. Some of the songs featured in the series include Kanye West’s “Jesus Walks,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright,” Run-D.M.C.’s “Rock Box,” Queen Latifah’s “Ladies First,” and more.

Tonight is the series premiere of Treadstone on USA Network at 10/9c. From a producer of the Bourne movie franchise, Treadstone is an action-packed thriller set amidst the CIA black ops program Operation Treadstone. The show explores the origin story and present-day actions of the infamous covert program that uses behavior modification protocol to turn recruits into nearly superhuman assassins. The first season follows sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously “awakened” to resume their deadly missions. The show stars Brian J. Smith (Sense8, Stargate Universe), Michael Gaston (Blind Justice, The Leftovers, Strange Angel, Unforgettable), Michelle Forbes (Wonderland, Snitch, The Killing, Berlin Station), Omar Metwally (Line of Sight, Virtuality), Patrick Fugit (Outcast, Reckless), Tracy Ifeachor (Crossbones, Spark), Tess Haubrich (Pine Gap), Emilia Schule, Gabrielle Scharnitzky, Hyo Joo Han, Jeremy Irvine, & Shruti Haasan. Tim Kring (Touch, Heroes, Crossing Jordan) developed and is executive producer.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Battle of the Fittest Couples on Paramount at 11/10c. Hosted by real life couple, former Bachelorette, JoJo Fletcher and former NFL Quarterback Jordan Rodgers, the show takes ripped couples and puts them through an intense competition that not only tests them on their physical and mental toughness, but how they work together as a team. In Battle of the Fittest Couples, 12 of the toughest and most competitive couples battle their way through grueling, physical and mental main event challenges that will put every ounce of their athleticism to the test. The losing couple is automatically put up for elimination and the winning couple gets to call the shots on choosing another couple to send with them into the “Rage Cage.” The ruthless rivals will then battle it out in a head-to-head brawl where one team will prevail and the other, sent home. Through every episode, physical limits are pushed, alliances are made, and relationships are tested. In the end only one couple will win $100,000 and be named “Fittest Couple.”

Overnight last night was the series premiere of BookTube on YouTube at 3:01AM/2:01AMc. The next chapter of book clubs is here! Following the critically acclaimed BookTube special, featuring Michelle Obama (“Becoming”), YouTube has announced BookTube, a new monthly learning series featuring the world’s most renowned authors. A new episode will air the third Thursday of each month. BookTube is the dream monthly book club meeting that everyone is invited to join. Each episode of this YouTube Original series features a small “book club,” which consists of one of the world’s best selling authors, a moderator, and top YouTube creators having an engaging conversation about the author’s latest book. Episode one features Malcolm Gladwell (“The Tipping Point” and “Talking to Strangers”), and future episodes will feature best-selling authors Margaret Atwood (“Handmaid’s Tale” and “The Testaments”), James Patterson (“Alex Cross”), and Melinda Gates (“The Moment of Lift”).

Overnight last night was also the series premiere of Going From Broke on Sony Crackle at 3:01AM/2:01AMc. It’s an epidemic of huge proportions. As a nation, over 44 million Americans collectively owe a whopping $1.5 trillion in federal student loan debt, a number that grows each year and is second only to mortgage debt in America. Upon graduation, those entering the professional world face mounds of bills, a shrinking pool of employment opportunities, a lack of financial skills and a constant, crippling weight of oppression keeping them from reaching for their dreams. Tackling this issue head on is Going From Broke, a new series from executive producer Ashton Kutcher, Matador Content, and Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment. Leading the charge to support millennials in overcoming their crippling financial struggles is host Dan Rosensweig, Chegg CEO, and financial expert Danetha Doe who go one on one with young people living in pricey Los Angeles, what they thought would be The City of Dreams, to change their habits, gain financial confidence and become CEO of their own lives. Although they all come from different backgrounds and circumstances, each of the participants have one thing in common: extreme debt. Rosensweig and Doe challenge millennials to address everything from savings and spending to taxes, bills, co-loans, and more. Ultimately, each of the subjects are given “homework,” tailored next steps meant to be tackled within a specific and timely window. It’s not comfortable, it’s not easy, but it’s necessary if they want financial stability. Throughout each of the 10 half-hours, viewers also get valuable insights and advice from several leading and trusted experts including award-winning personal finance journalist Jean Chatzky and Farnoosh Tarobi, bestselling author and podcast reporter.

Overnight last night was the complete first season premiere of Living With Yourself on Netflix at 3:01AM/2:01AMc. Burned out on life, Miles undergoes a strange procedure at a strip mall spa — and wakes to find he’s been replaced by a better version of himself. The show stars Paul Rudd and Aisling Bea.

Overnight last night was also the complete first season premiere of Looking for Alaska on Hulu at 3:01AM/2:01AMc. Based on the John Green novel of the same name and set in 2005, it centers around teenager Miles “Pudge” Halter (Charlie Plummer, Share), as he enrolls in boarding school to try to gain a deeper perspective on life. He falls in love with Alaska Young (Kristine Froseth, Let the Right One In, The Society), and finds a group of loyal friends. But after an unexpected tragedy, Miles and his close friends attempt to make sense of what they’ve been through. The show also stars Henry Zaga (The Stand, Trinkets), Landry Bender (Best Friends Whenever, Council of Dads, Crash & Bernstein), Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us, Truth Be Told), Sofia Vassilieva (Medium), Timothy Simons (Exit Plans), Uriah Shelton (The Glades, Nanny Express), Denny Love, Jay Lee, Jordan Connor, & Rachel Matthews.

Overnight last night was also the complete first season premiere of Modern Love on Amazon at 3:01AM/2:01AMc. An unlikely friendship. A lost love resurfaced. A marriage at its turning point. A date that might not have been a date. An unconventional new family. These are unique stories about the joys and tribulations of love, each inspired by a real-life personal essay from the beloved New York Times column “Modern Love.” The show stars Tina Fey, Andy Garcia, Anne Hathaway, Cristin Milioti (How I Met Your Mother, Made for Love, A to Z), Dev Patel (The Newsroom), Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel, Vanity Fair), Andrew Scott (Dates, His Dark Materials, Ripley), Brandon Victor Dixon (Jesus Christ Superstar Live!, Rent), Catherine Keener (Kidding, Show Me a Hero), Gary Carr, John Gallagher JR (Olive Kitteridge), John Slattery (Jack & Bobby, Kansas City, Mad Men, Next), Julia Garner (Dirty John, Waco, Ozark), Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire, Homecoming, L.A. Confidential, Marvel’s Agent Carter, Perry Mason, Vice Principals), & Sofia Boutella.

Finally, overnight last night was the complete first season premiere of Unnatural Selection on Netflix at 3:01AM/2:01AMc. The documentary series explores new developments in the science of gene-editing that defy evolution and raise moral, social and environmental impact questions about where we, as a society, draw the line.
