If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/21/13

After such a weird last week with different issues, hopefully this week will be a little calmer around here. To start off the week, Kyle & I have some thoughts on what you should be watching. ;)

Last week’s Chopped All-Stars was really great. The first two competitors, Elizabeth Falkner & Chuck Huges, went out in the order I’d hoped—I like Chuck, but he was rather annoying, and I don’t like Elizabeth, even though she can definitely cook—and I was surprised about Gavin. I didn’t know him before this competition, but it was great seeing him & Richard battle head to head. I wish Richard had won because I love him, but Gavin was fun to watch, seemed like an okay guy, and cooked his ass off, so he deserved the win, too.

Competitors this week include four of the Chopped judges: Alex Guarnaschelli, Amanda Freitag, Scott Conant, Marc Murphy. I’m rooting for Amanda Freitag, but anyone but Alex would be okay. She drove me batty on the Next Iron Chef competition, and I find it hard to like her sometimes. Tonight’s judges are Aarón Sánchez, Geoffrey Zakarian, & Marcus Samuelsson. Yay, boo, and yay! *laugh*

On tonight’s episode, “Chopped Judges,” it’s judgment time for the Chopped judges! In the first round, the judges-turned-competitors must crack the code of the basket after cracking open diver scallops. Then, in the entrée round, can the chefs make a beautiful bird fly with canned pizza sauce? With bragging rights and a shot at making it to the $50,000 finale on the line, the last two chefs bravely tackle the dessert basket, and while one of the ingredients makes them smile, it is all business for a tense thirty minutes.

See who comes out on top tonight on Food Network at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Chopped @ TV.com.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Funniest Home Videos, The Bletchley Circle, The Mentalist & Vikings.

nursejackie421small13Last week, Showtime kicked off a new season of Nurse Jackie. Things seemed to be back to normal at All Saints. Jackie was back to work with her entire gang—even Eddie got his old job back in the pharmacy. After the death of his son, Dr. Cruz left the hospital, leaving Gloria back in charge as chief administrator. Jackie is still sober, but finds herself in a constant struggle to avoid temptation and stay that way. Meanwhile, Kevin served Jackie divorce papers, Zoey decided to stay on as Jackie’s housemate to help keep her on the wagon, and O’Hara announced plans to return to London to raise her baby.

We seem to be back at season one (although Jackie is currently sober this time), and I could see this quickly becoming the same show all over again if Jackie’s personal life issues cause her to go off the wagon again. I’m cautiously optimistic that the show will find a way to keep things fresh and interesting in this fifth season, and I’m interested to see how this season progresses.

On tonight’s episode, “Luck of the Drawing,” Jackie and Kevin’s divorce mediation hits a wall when he demands full custody; and a released bus-crash patient returns after contracting sepsis while at All Saints. Later, Coop threatens to quit after not being named Chief of the ER, but Jackie talks him down.

To see if Kevin’s custody demands send Jackie over the edge of sobriety again, tune in to Showtime at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Nurse Jackie @ TV.com.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Amazing Race, The Good Wife, The Mentalist, Once Upon a Time, Remember Sunday, The Cleveland Show, Bob’s Burgers, Lovestruck: The Musical, Mad Men, Vikings, Game of Thrones, and Veep.
