If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/19/15

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Megan’s Choice #1

greysanatomy219smallGrey’s Anatomy has been delivering this season on the emotional story front—I must have used a whole box of kleenex last episode. It was a very hard thing to watch April and Jackson struggle over the fact that their son was going to die; and it was even harder to watch Jackson pray to a God that he doesn’t believe in because he loved April so much. Losing a child is such a terrible thing, but this show has never shied away from difficult and uncomfortable topics. They instead choose to tackle them with grace and emotion. I was a ball of emotion last week, yet the show managed to have a few amusing moments thanks to Meredith trying to find a sitter for her kids for the weekend. Maggie came through for Meredith in the end, and I’m glad because I really want them to keep building this sister relationship. I’m interested to see where they’re going to go with all these characters now, especially Jackson and April.

On tonight’s episode, “The Great Pretender,” Maggie gets upset when Meredith dodges her questions about DC; Bailey and Ben become concerned about Ben’s brother after he is admitted to the hospital, and Dr. Herman starts to warm up to Arizona. Meanwhile, Richard feels manipulated by Catherine.

To see what is causing Meredith to be so tight-lipped about her trip, tune in to ABC at 8/7c.

twoandahalfmensmallI know, I know. It’s crazy to be recommending Two and a Half Men, but tonight’s the one-hour series finale, and since I’ve watched every episode to this point… I have loved having Ashton Kutcher on there as Walden. I’m not a big fan of Alan, but I love Walden. That being said, they’ve been a great pairing, especially given the fact that they got married this season. Last week, they signed divorce papers since Walden has now officially adopted Louis. Walden gave Alan one wish, and after much debate, Alan chose a Ferrari, much to Lindsay’s disappointment. When Alan and Ms. McMartin explained why, Alan was able to convince Walden to buy him an engagement ring to give to Lindsay. I swear, those two deserve each other. They’re both entirely screwed-up individuals!

On tonight’s episode, “Of Course He’s Dead — Part One and Part Two,” Charlie Harper is alive. Or is he? Surprise guest stars will appear.

To see the end of an era and find out if Charlie Harper is indeed alive, tune in to CBS at 9:01/8:01c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, The Odd Couple, Backstrom, & Chopped Canada.

Kyle’s Choice

theoddcouplesmallTonight, The Odd Couple returns to the small screen. If you’ve seen Neil Simon’s original stage play, the classic 1968 film, or the 1970-75 TV series, you’re already familiar with this comedic tale of mismatched roommates. In this incarnation, Felix Unger (Thomas Lennon, Sean Saves the World, Reno 911! ) and Oscar Madison (Matthew Perry, Friends) are two former college buddies whose marriages have crumbled. After the guys move in together, they quickly discover just how much their personalities clash—Oscar is a slob while Felix is a neat freak who likes everything in its proper place. How will these two survive as roommates?! Can Felix learn to be a little less uptight? And can Oscar learn be a little more responsible?

The series also stars Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), Wendell Pierce (The Michael J. Fox Show, The Wire), and Lindsay Sloane (Playing House, Grosse Pointe). This is such a hilarious cast, and I am looking forward to seeing how they reboot this classic series. I think Thomas Lennon is perfectly cast as the uptight Felix, and Matthew Perry should make a great Oscar. My only concern is that the show is on CBS—which tends to prefer sitcoms that go for the cheap, trashy jokes rather than smart writing—but I’m hoping they prove me wrong.

On tonight’s premiere, “Pilot,” Oscar Madison reluctantly agreeing to let Felix Unger move in with him after both of their marriages fail.

Jump on board with this new comedy tonight on CBS at 8:31/7:31c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away With Murder, The Slap, The Blacklist, Allegiance, Backstrom, Archer, and Vikings.

Megan’s Choice #2

vikings219smallTonight is the season three premiere of Vikings, and I for one am very excited because season two brought us so much excitement, character growth, and just plain good television. When we left the show in May, Ragnar managed to escape the assassination brought to him by Horik, thanks to Floki being true to his friend. The whole finale was hinged on who he aligned himself with. and because he chose Ragnar, Horik met his bloody demise. Floki did keep his word and protected Bjorn, which goes further to prove what a decent man he is. This season will obviously have its battles and be filled with blood, sex, and war, but all of that will go to build everyone’s love of this show even more. I’m interested to see where Ragnar ends up and if he is able to keep on course even with all the power he is gaining.

On tonight’s episode, “Mercenary,” Ragnar and Lagertha’s fleets depart Kattegat once more for Wessex, but this time they bring settlers. King Ecbert hosts the Vikings and proposes a deal. Despite the misgivings of some of the other leaders, Ragnar leads his forces into battle once more, but this time as allies of Wessex.

Check out the return of Vikings tonight on History Channel at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching The Big Bang Theory, The Slap, The Odd Couple, The Blacklist, Chopped Canada, Allegiance, Scandal, Duff Till Dawn, and Elementary.
