If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/1/15

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Jenny’s Choice

bones101smallWhen we last saw Bones, Brennan was pregnant with baby #2, she and Booth decided to quit the Jeffersonian & FBI, and Angela and Hodgins had decided to stay. Obviously Brennan and Booth leaving the FBI & Jeffersonian won’t stick – it wouldn’t be even remotely the same show if it did. But at this point, we don’t know how or why they come back. Well, I know… I’ve seen the first two episodes of the season. When the season starts, time has jumped forward six months. Brennan, Booth, and Christine have been joined by the new little boy in their family. Arastoo has taken over Brennan’s spot temporarily while Cam looks to hire someone permanently. And Aubrey is doing well at the FBI – although Booth isn’t completely gone; he’s simply teaching courses, rather than working in the field, as we’ll learn in the coming episodes. The season starts out with a bang, so don’t miss it!

On tonight’s episode, “The Loyalty in the Lie,” six months after starting a new life with her family, Brennan becomes interested in a case to which she has personal ties; an FBI investigation begins when Booth goes missing. Kim Raver & Dilshad Vadsaria guest star.

See what ties Brennan has with the case and why Booth goes missing tonight on FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Heroes Reborn, Beat Bobby Flay, The Player, & Geeks Who Drink.

benders101smallTonight, IFC kicks off the new 8-episode scripted hockey comedy Benders. Benders follows a group of guys who are obsessed with their men’s ice hockey team, despite having little to no talent for the game. But what they lack in skills, they make up for in enthusiasm. However, sometimes this excitement for the game goes a little overboard and affects their lives off the ice as well. Leading the team is Paul Rosenberg (Andrew Schulz, Guy Code, “Brilliant Idiots” podcast), whose wife Karen (Lindsey Broad, The Office, 21 Jump Street) is usually left to deal with the all the chaos the team leaves in their wake. The Chubbys’ roster also includes Paul’s best friend/schemer Anthony (Chris Distefano, Girl Code, The Half Hour), wealthy hedge fund manager Dicky (Mark Gessner, Orange is the New Black, The Blacklist), and slacker Sebalos (Ruy Iskandar, Gotham, The Blacklist).

The series comes from creators Jim Serpico and Tom Sellitti, who both worked on shows like Rescue Me, Sirens, Maron, and Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. From the from the ads, it looks like this series will have the same style of buddy-centric, non-PC, slightly off-color humor that have been successful in the duo’s other series. I haven’t seen the series yet, but based on the folks behind the show and the trailers, it looks like it could be a lot of fun. I look forward to hitting the ice with this gang tonight.

On tonight’s premiere, “Choke,” one guy’s grandfather makes him a tempting offer that might impact his involvement in the team.

Strap on your ice skates and join the team tonight on IFC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, Heroes Reborn, The Blacklist, The Player, Bones, Sleepy Hollow, Married, and Review with Forrest MacNeil.

theplayer101smallThe Player premiered last week, and while I was concerned that it was going to be just another crime drama, I’m pleased to report that the twists and turns presented already make it worth watching. Wesley Snipes is fantastic in his role as the elusive, slightly creepy man in charge, Mr. Johnson…and Alex doesn’t trust him. Alex’s ex-wife was murdered, and the police thought he did it, but a mystery woman named Cassandra helped him escape, and he learned that he’d been chosen to be part of a high-stakes game. In this game, the wealthiest people bet on whether or not the Player (now Alex) will be able to stop a crime in time. It was a kidnapping, and while Alex managed to save the girl, in the process he gave up getting the man who killed his ex-wife. After he saved the day, Mr. Johnson asked him to permanently become the Player, but Alex turned him down. That didn’t last long after Alex went to the morgue to say good-bye to his ex-wife one last time and discovered someone had switched the bodies for a woman that looked like his ex-wife, but she didn’t have the same tattoo on her finger. Alex thinks it was Mr. Johnson who switched the bodies, so now he agreed to play the game so that he can hopefully find out what happened to his ex-wife. It was an intense series premiere, and I am definitely interested to see where it goes next. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you most certainly should!

On tonight’s episode, “Ante Up,” Alex Kane is sent to stop a diamond heist and runs into an old colleague who wants information. Mr. Johnson and Cassandra King intervene and threaten to call off the bets. Finally, Kane attends Ginny’s funeral and uncovers some shocking evidence about her murder.

I promise you won’t be sorry if you check out this adventurous new drama tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Bones, Grey’s Anatomy, Heroes Reborn, Scandal, Sleepy Hollow, How to Get Away with Murder, The Blacklist, and Beat Bobby Flay .
