If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/2/15

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

drken102smallTonight, Ken Jeong (Community) takes on his first starring sitcom role in the new series Dr. Ken. While Dr. Ken Park is a great physician, he is completely oblivious to his horrible bedside manner. The series is half office comedy/half family sitcom, following Ken as he tries to balance his work and family lives. There’s always some crazy patient or office politics to deal with at work with coworkers Damona (Tisha Campbell-Martin), Clark (Jonathan Slavin, Better Off Ted), Julie (Kate Simses, Mixology), and boss Pat (Dave Foley, NewsRadio). And when Ken heads home, teenage daughter Molly (Krista Marie Yu, The Thundermans) and nerdy son Dave (Albert Tsai, Trophy Wife) keep him busy – but therapist wife Allison (Suzy Nakamura, Go On) is also there to help keep him centered.

Based on tonight’s pilot, I can’t say that this is a show that I’ll be checking out every week. However, those looking for another TGIF-style family sitcom to kick off the weekend, this may be what the doctor ordered. Ken Jeong’s character is a bit more subdued from his usual films and TV roles, but those who enjoy his style of humor will probably like this role as well.

On tonight’s premiere, “Pilot,” Ken needs a therapy session with Allison when he tires of his patients’ complaints; and Molly’s driving test makes her dad nervous that she just might pass.

Meet Dr. Ken and his family tonight on ABC at 8:31/7:31c.

I’ll be watching/recording The Amazing Race, Z Nation, and Continuum.

Jenny’s Choice

bluebloods102smallI always love Blue Bloods, and last week’s premiere was no exception. When terrorist attacks (suicide bombers, etc) began happening across the world, Frank got word that New York City should be considered on high alert, that there was a credible threat. While he had to decide what, if anything, should be told to the public, Danny, Baez, Eddie, & Jamie, along with the rest of the department, had the task of tracking down all the possible threats. In the end, two of the terrorists were killed when Baez entered their apartment during their prayer time and took them by surprise, only to have them lunge for their weapons. Danny was able to track the third bomber and stopped him right before he set off the bomb he’d planted, although Danny got the crud beat out of him in the process.

As a regular citizen of the United States, I don’t think I want to know how many terrorist threats there’ve been that the police and other agencies have stopped before they happen. It isn’t that my head is in the sand – after the OKC bombing and 9/11, I’ll never have the illusion that something like that can never happen near me – but I refuse to live my life in fear. And that was what Frank had to deal with last week. He, Garrett, & Gormley, along with Danny, Jamie, et al, had that knowledge, that there was a credible threat to their city, and Frank made the decision not to announce it to the public, which made a lot of sense to me. Can you imagine the panic that would ensue?!

On tonight’s episode, “Absolute Power,” Danny and Baez investigate a possible serial killer who sends a chilling message to Danny, and Erin toys with the idea of applying for a judgeship. Also, Frank is in a bind when mayoral candidate Katherine Tucker (Mary Stuart Masterson) accuses him of secretly investigating her husband, and Eddie faces her estranged father when he winds up in the hospital.

To see if Danny can track down the killer, tune in to CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Amazing Race, Last Man Standing, Dr. Ken, & Hawaii Five-0.

  2. […] I’m excited for the return of The Good Wife tonight. When we left off last season, Kalinda met with Lester, Lemond Bishop’s lawyer, and threatened to release information she had on him if he didn’t leave Alicia and the others alone. Meanwhile, Peter got word that the Democratic National Committee wanted him to run for president in order, with the ultimate goal of him becoming the top contender for VP. This news excited Zach and Eli, but Alicia and Grace weren’t too thrilled. … […]
