Tonight is the series premiere of Home Fires on PBS at 8/7c. Starring MASTERPIECE favorites Samantha Bond (Downton Abbey) and Francesca Annis (Reckless) as part of a remarkable group of women living in a small rural village during World War II. Separated from husbands, fathers, sons and brothers for years at a time — some permanently — they find themselves under extraordinary pressures in a rapidly fragmenting world.

Tonight is also the series premiere of The Widower on PBS at 10/9c. This drama is the true story of Malcolm Webster, a nurse by profession and, on the surface, a perfect gentleman: well-spoken, personable and charming. He’s also a spendthrift and killer. He marries, and attempts to kill, a succession of women to cash in their life insurance policies. The series stars Reece Shearsmith (as Malcolm Webster), Sheridan Smith (as Claire Morris), Kate Fleetwood (as Felicity), Archie Panjabi (as Simone), & John Hannah (as DS Henry).

Tonight is the series premiere of Middle of the Night Show on MTV at 11/10c. This is a fast-paced reimagining of the late-night comedy talk show that brings it out of the studio and onto the streets of New York City. Each night the show’s crew and live band crash the bedroom of an unsuspecting celebrity who is forced to host a talk show on the spot without any preparation and on very little sleep. CollegeHumor’s Brian Murphy serves as the celebrity’s co-host and guide throughout the evening.

Tonight is the series premiere (sort of) of Red Oaks on Amazon at 12:01AM/11:01PMc. It stars Craig Roberts (Submarine) as David Myers, an assistant tennis pro at the Red Oaks Country Club in suburban New Jersey in 1985. David is both reeling from his father’s heart attack and conflicted about what college major to declare in the fall; his father Sam Myers is played by Richard Kind (Luck). While there, David meets a colorful cast of misfit co-workers and wealthy club members including an alluring art student named Skye, played by Alexandra Socha, and her corporate raider father Getty played by Paul Reiser (Mad About You), and Ennis Esmer as Nash. A coming-of-age comedy set in the “go-go” 80s that is equal parts hijinks and heartfelt, Red Oaks is about enjoying a last hurrah before summer comes to an end – and the future begins. The show also stars Jennifer Grey (It’s Like, You Know) as Judy Myers, Oliver Cooper (Californication) as Wheeler, and Gage Golightly as Karen.

Tonight is the series premiere of BBQ Blitz on Food Network at 10:30/9:30c. Food Network Star season eleven winner and former NFL player Eddie Jackson goes primetime this fall with his new six-episode series. Eddie hits a new city in each episode and welcomes three of the best local grillers, smokers and fire-roasters to an outdoor cook-off for a grand prize of $5,000 and BBQ bragging rights. The action happens in front of a crowd of cheering spectators, and kicks off with Eddie challenging each competitor to transform their signature grilled masterpiece into a completely different dish for two hungry judges. After an elimination, he chooses one special ingredient that the remaining two must turn into the BBQ dish of their lives. The judges then determine who cooked the best bite, and the $5,000 grand-prize winner is named in front of fans with stadium-style hoopla. Each judging panel mixes culinary experts including Ingrid Hoffman and Kent Rathbun with Eddie’s food-obsessed pals like former NFL players Anthony Lucas and Ken Hamlin.

Saturday is the series premiere of The Last Kingdom on BBC America at 10/9c. This is a contemporary story of redemption, vengeance, and self-discovery set against the birth of England. It follows young warrior and outsider, Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), on a fierce mission to reclaim his birthright. Eleven-year-old Uhtred was born a Saxon in 9th century Northumbria. He watches from a cliff top as invading Danish ships move toward his home, not knowing that his future will soon be turned upside-down. Young Uhtred witnesses his father killed and the Saxon army defeated. That same day he is taken by the Danish warlord, Earl Ragnar (Peter Gantzler). His fellow captive is a feisty, sharp-tongued girl named Brida (Emily Cox). The orphans are brought up in the Danish camp. It also stars Adrian Bower, Alexandre Willaume, David Dawson, Henning Valin Jakobsen, Ian Hart, Joseph Millson, Matthew Macfadyen, Rune Temte, Rutger Hauer, Thomas W.
