Megan’s Choice
It may seem at times that all I watch is procedurals or cooking shows, but that’s not true. I am also a sucker for a good fantasy show, and The Shannara Chronicles has definitely caught my interest. It has adventure, magic, and unlikely heroes, all of which make for a fantastic series, not to mention it’s based off a bestselling book series written by the talented Terry Brooks.
In case you missed last week’s 2-hour premiere, here’s a brief rundown so you can easily catch up this week. The show takes place in a magical land known as the Four Lands, eons after the fall of humans. There is a special Elvish tree, Ellcrys, which protects the land from the demon world, but unfortunately it is dying. This sets the trio of Amberle, Wil Ohmsford, and Allanon on a quest to find a new, safe home for the tree before the boundary between the worlds is completely dissolved, bringing an unstoppable demon army into the Four Lands.
If you are a fan of fantasy and adventure, then you simply must tune into watch this show!
On last week’s episode, we got to know the characters and watched as the tree was found to be sick and the trio was formed. There were demons and love stories along with great fight scenes. If it wasn’t exciting enough for you, then you need to re-evaluate your idea of excitement.
On tonight’s episode, “Fury,” Wil and Amberle are kidnapped by Eretria and Cephalo while returning to the palace. But the Rovers are the least of their worries. Wil must learn how to use the Elfstones before a bloodthirsty Fury kills them all.
To see if this unlikely group can defeat the Fury, tune in to MTV at 9/8c.

ABC Family is now called Freeform, and to go along with that name change, the network is launching some new series, including the fantasy drama Shadowhunters. The series is based on the bestselling young-adult book series The Mortal Instruments, written by Cassandra Clare. The first book, “City of Bones,” had previously been made into a motion picture, and this series opens in a similar way to that film.
Clary Fray’s (Katherine McNamara, Happyland) life is completely changed when, on her 18th birthday, she discovers that she lives in a world filled with faeries, warlocks, vampires, werewolves, and other fantastical creatures. She soon meets Shadowhunter Jace (Dominic Sherwood, Vampire Academy) and learns that she, too, comes from a long line of these human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. Her best friend Simon (Alberto Rosende) is what these magical folks refer to as a Mundane – he does not share her abilities and cannot see this magical world within the world. Now that Clary has had her awakening, she must learn to harness her long-forgotten abilities in order to stop that evil that hunts her and those she loves.
The series also stars Harry Shum Jr. (Glee), Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, Isaiah Mustafa (Nikita), and Alan Van Sprang (Reign).
On tonight’s premiere, “The Mortal Cup,” a woman discovers on her 18th birthday that she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters, human-angel hybrids who hunt demons.

My pick tonight is a little odd, but… Apparently ION rescued Saving Hope from Cancellation Land and aired the full season one last year, starting in October. They even aired the three episodes that went unaired when it premiered in 2012 on NBC. Season two starts tonight.
In case you missed it the first time, here’s what the show’s about: “In Saving Hope, the Hope Zion Hospital is left in chaos when its charismatic Chief of Surgery, Charlie Harris (Michael Shanks, Stargate: SG1), falls into a coma, putting his fiancé and fellow surgeon, Alex Reid (Erica Durance, Smallville), in a state of shock. Along with newly arrived star surgeon, Joel Goran (Daniel Gillies, The Originals), Reid races to save Harris’ life. As the action unfolds, the comatose Harris explores the hospital halls in “spirit†form, unsure if he is a figment of his own imagination. Reid, along with her fellow doctors, press on to save his life and the lives of others as they deal with the complicated and courageous decisions that are made in their daily struggle to keep hope alive. The series also stars Huse Madhavji, Julia Taylor Ross, and Kristopher Turner.â€
On tonight’s first episode, “I Watch Death,†Alex and Charlie are caught in the middle of a shooting on their way into their first shift back at Hope Zion. It’s all hands on deck when the victims of the shooting end up at Hope Zee. While in the midst of the shooting commotion, Alex has to treat a bullied teenager and deal with her own emotions with everything that’s happened in the past year of her life.
Then on the second episode, “Little Piggers,†Alex must learn to stick up for herself and not be intimidated by Dawn (Charlie’s ex-wife) in order to work alongside her and perform a minimally invasive heart procedure to save a patient’s life. Meanwhile, Joel unlocks a mystery to a young girl’s disease whilst getting some advice from Charlie, who is trying to figure out how to help his comatose patient come back from being a spirit. It’s a week of defying the odds at Hope Zion.
