Tonight is the series premiere of The Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth on Showtime at 8/7c. Produced in cooperation with Bloomberg Politics and featuring Bloomberg Politics managing editors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann and noted campaign strategist and media advisor Mark McKinnon. The real-time documentary series will pull back the curtain on the 2016 presidential race, revealing the intense, irreverent, inspiring and infuriating stories behind the headlines of what promises to be one of the most fascinating and consequential elections in modern history. Premiering in advance of the Iowa caucuses, the show will deliver the stories as they are happening and examine what really goes on behind the carefully constructed facade of a presidential campaign in real time. The announcement was made today by David Nevins, President and CEO, Showtime Networks Inc. It will follow multiple individual stories and key characters from the campaigns and capture their unique perspectives in weekly half-hour shows between January and November. With intimate, behind-the-scenes access, cameras will offer viewers a look at what the public rarely sees and explore the high human drama inherent in the pursuit of the Oval Office.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Angie Tribeca on TBS at 9/8c, followed by the rest of the entire first season following that every 26 minutes, with the season finale starting at 12:53AM/11:53PMc. From Steve & Nancy Carell comes the unapologetic comedy series that will make audiences rethink the crime genre while also reconsidering what they made for dinner that night. Rashida Jones, Hayes MacArthur, Jere Burns, Deon Cole and Andrée Vermeulen star in TBS’s first-ever police procedural as a tough outfit of detectives who refuse to shy away from dead bodies that are not alive. The complex mysteries they encounter are wrapped inside other complex mysteries featuring violence, grit, sex, gritty sex and a detective who will stop at nothing to get her man…or woman…or ferret.

Tonight is also the series premiere of The Real Housewives of Potomac on Bravo at 9/8c. Just up the river from our nation’s capital lies a hidden gem: Potomac, Maryland. Its rolling hills, gated mansions, sophisticated prep schools, and exclusive country clubs all serve to keep the area invitation-only. Sprinkled throughout this community are a handful of old-line, wealthy African-American families who have historically broken racial barriers to provide the best life possible for their children. The Real Housewives of Potomac follows the upscale lives of six intriguing, well-to-do women: Gizelle Bryant, Katie Rost, Karen Huger, Charrisse Jackson-Jordan, Robyn Dixon, and Ashley Darby, all of whom have fought for their places in this society by way of legacy or marriage. In a town where entry is granted only through class, pedigree, and lineage, how far will these ladies go to secure their spot at the top of this prestigious circle?

Tonight is also the series premiere of Billions on Showtime at 10/9c. This is a bold, contemporary drama that explores worlds of ultra-wealth, influence and corruption as personified in two highly ambitious opposing figures: hard-charging, blue-blooded, politically connected U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) and brilliant, calculating, blue-collar billionaire hedge fund king, Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Damian Lewis). Set amongst the Machiavellian machinations of New York City power politics and finance, the show weaves an intricate narrative featuring a high-stakes game of predator-versus-prey. Maggie Siff, Malin Akerman, Toby Leonard Moore, David Costabile and Condola Rashad also star.

Finally, tonight is the series premiere of Mercy Street on PBS at 10/9c. Follow a diverse cast of characters – doctors, nurses, contraband laborers and Southern loyalists – who intersect in the chaotic world of Union-occupied Alexandria, Virginia, and the Mansion House Hospital in the early years of the Civil War. Starring Josh Radnor, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Gary Cole, Peter Gerety, and Norbert Leo Butz among others.

Tonight is the series premiere of Planet Primetime on Travel Channel at 8/7c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 8:30/7:30c. No matter where you go in the world, people love their TV! From Japan’s wacky game shows to India’s Bollywood comedies; Brazil’s Miss Bum Bum competition to Colombia’s beauty pageants; and Israel’s political satire to Russia’s competition of the psychics — television provides a fascinating window into each culture. In this new series, self-described pop culture and entertainment addict Karla Cavalli spans the globe, immersing herself in different cultures through their weirdest, wildest, funniest and most popular television programs.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Team Ninja Warrior on Esquire at 8/7c. The new spin-off series will feature the world’s best ninja warrior competitors racing head-to head in teams of three in a newly designed, but equally punishing, dual running course that incorporates speed, superhuman agility, skill and — because the competitor’s paths literally cross as they are racing through the obstacles — a whole new strategy to the game. The new ompetition is hosted by comedian Matt Iseman, former NFL player and sports analyst Akbar Gbajabiamila, and Fox Sports reporter Alex Curry. For the first time in ninja history, the mother of all obstacle courses is now built for two. America’s fittest athletes will form 24 squads of three, consisting of two males and one female, for an epic sprint against each other. In the first 6 one-hour episodes, four different teams will see their teammates individually race directly against the opposing team’s players through the brutal obstacle course. Each individual win gives the team more points, and at the end of the episode, the two teams left standing will face-off, with the winner of that final relay showdown moving on to the finals.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Fit to Fat to Fit on A&E at 10/9c. This is a groundbreaking new series that follows personal fitness trainers from across the country as they undertake the most extreme weight-loss experiment ever: by forcing themselves to gain weight, they aim to better understand the struggles of their obese clients as they lose the weight together. In 2012, professional fitness trainer Drew Manning saw that there was a disconnect between him and his out of shape clients. They claimed he couldn’t understand what they were going through. So he purposely gained 75 pounds to understand the struggle to lose it. It was the hardest thing he’d ever done, but it changed his life forever. This show follows 10 trainers at the top of their game who will embark on Drew’s challenge; agreeing to intentionally pack on the pounds by indulging in an unhealthy diet and completely refraining from exercise in order to transform from fit to fat.

Finally, tonight is the series premiere of Just Jillian on E! at 10/9c. Tough talk, strength, agility and an unmatchable drive to motivate herself and others are the hallmarks of Jillian Michaels. However, there’s more to the uber-successful celebrity than meets the eye. Between two kids, the longtime love of her life, a steadfast business partner, a family of dear friends, and 15 pets, viewers will get an exclusive backstage pass into Jillian’s personal life. For the first time, fans who have seen Jillian in front of the lights, will get an unfiltered look at the woman behind the empire built one drop of sweat at a time and meet the people inside her private world who help her juggle the chaos and support her through it all.

Tonight is the series premiere of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow on The CW at 8/7c. When heroes alone are not enough…the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only the planet is at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known? The show stars Victor Garber (The Flash, Alias), Brandon Routh (Arrow, Superman Returns), Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who), Caity Lotz (Arrow), Ciara Renee (Pippin), and Franz Drameh (Edge of Tomorrow), with Dominic Purcell (The Flash, Prison Break) and Wentworth Miller (The Flash, Prison Break).

Tonight is the series premiere of Baskets on FX at 10/9c. Chip Baskets (Zach Galifianakis) wants to follow his dream of being a French clown – however, reality keeps interfering. Saddled with financial difficulties and facing an impenetrable language barrier, he moves back home to Bakersfield with high hopes. There, he is forced to confront his past while working as a rodeo clown and competing with his siblings for his mother’s approval and affection.

Tonight is also the series premiere of London Spy on BBC America at 10/9c. The show begins with a chance romance between two people from two very different walks of life — one from the high-powered ranks of investment banking and the other from a world of clubbing and youthful excess. But their love story quickly unravels when the reclusive banker disappears under suspicious circumstances, exposing his real identity as a spy and forcing his lover down a dark path to reveal the truth. The stirring five-part mystery, from acclaimed best-selling author Tom Rob Smith (Child 44), stars BAFTA-winner Ben Whishaw (Spectre) in a career-defining performance as Danny, an innocent, young romantic drawn into a dangerous world of espionage. He is joined by Academy Award winner Jim Broadbent (Iris), Emmy nominee Charlotte Rampling (Broadchurch), and newcomer Edward Holcroft (Wolf Hall).

Tonight is also the series premiere of Recipe for Deception on Bravo at 10/9c. Judges Chris Oh and Jonathan Waxman join host Max Silvestri in this fast-paced and innovative competition show where a chef’s ability to lie is almost as important as their culinary skill. In each episode, Silvestri guides four new chefs through three head-to-head elimination rounds in which they are tasked with creating a stunning dish featuring a main ingredient. The twist is that they have no idea what that ingredient is while they are cooking. Based on the popular parlor game “Two Truths and a Lie,” competing chefs ask each other three “yes or no” questions to determine what their mystery component is, and their opponent answers strategically with two truthful answers and one outright lie. Judges Oh and Waxman grade the chefs on their final dishes based on overall quality and how well they incorporate their secret ingredient. In the final round, eliminated chefs have a chance to scheme their way back into the competition by trading potentially valuable information about the undisclosed ingredient for a chance at the $10,000 prize.

Finally, tonight is the series premiere of Dark Net on Showtime at 11/10c. This docuseries explores the netherworld where virtual and physical lives collide in ways surprising, disturbing and seemingly inevitable. In contrast to much of the mainstream media, Dark Net reveals a more ominous and disturbing perspective of a digitally connected world where our every action is collected and stored. The series is developed and produced by Vocativ, a technology and media company that applies exclusive proprietary technology to search and monitor the deep web, the 80 percent of the internet that lies beyond the reach of regular search engines. Each half-hour episode will shed light on themes such as bio-hacking, cyber-kidnapping, digital warfare, online cults, pornography addiction, the webcam sex trade and more. Originally used as a hidden space for the intelligence community to meet online outside of the general public’s eye, the dark web is now being exploited by a dangerous underworld of cyber predators and criminals. Imprisoned hackers and trolls secretly surf alongside bondage fetishists, virtual lovebirds and life-tracking disciples. With our growing dependence on technology and connectivity, the Internet at large has become indispensable for billions of users, enabling people to connect globally in ways they never could before. But Dark Net unveils the dangers of its unchecked shadow, raising cautionary, thought-provoking conversations about technology, privacy and how new, ever-expanding platforms are changing the way we live for the better and for worse.

Tonight is the series premiere of Truth & Power on Pivot at 10/9c. Narrated by Maggie Gyllenhaal, the show centers on the very timely question, “What happens when private institutions and governments abuse their power and break the public trust?” Each half hour-long episode pulls the curtain back on stories of ordinary people going to extraordinary lengths to reveal corporate exploitation and infringement on civil liberties resulting from government overreach. Certain authorities and organizations are attempting to silence dissent and hinder 21st century social movements in ways that directly threaten democracy.

Tonight is also the complete series premiere of Chelsea Does on Netflix at 3:01AM/2:01AMc. This is comprised of four revealing, funny and introspective films (Chelsea Does Marriage, Chelsea Does Racism, Chelsea Does Silicon Valley, Chelsea Does Drugs) featuring Chelsea Handler exploring topics of personal and universal fascination, from marriage to drugs, to racism and Silicon Valley. With her unique voice and provocative point of view, Chelsea will be seen confronting the topics that connect humanity, having the hard conversations about things that are not easy to talk about, and calibrating and learning who she is along the way.

Saturday

Saturday is the series premiere of Beowulf on Esquire at 10/9c. Based on the legendary English poem over a thousand years old, Beowulf tells the story of a disillusioned and damaged hero. The 13-episode, one hour drama will chronicle Beowulf’s return to his home Herot, to make peace with his past. Unwittingly in search of a cause to believe in and a community to fight for, Beowulf finds himself wrongly accused of murder and hunts down the true perpetrator to avenge the death of his fellow kinsmen. Beowulf becomes Herot’s tough but unconventional hero, responsible for upholding the law and protecting the town from danger. The last of a dying breed, Beowulf is a man capable of shaping the world around him by his actions and force of will. While this may seem like a familiar tale, Beowulf unearths the full story of the complicated, driven man behind the lore. The show stars Kieran Bew as Beowulf, William Hurt at Hrothgar, David Ajala as Rate, Ed Speleers as Slean, Joanne Whalley as Rheda, & Laura Donnelly as Elvina.

Tonight is also the season premiere of Black Sails on Starz at 9/8c and a new episode of Saturday Night Live on NBC at 11:29/10:29c, with host Ronda Rousey & musical guest Selena Gomez.
