Olivier Rabourdin as RomanTonight, Sundance Channel kicks off the six-part crime series The Last Panthers, which is inspired by the real-life events of the notorious Balkans jewel thieves. The series is set in modern-day Europe, where a group of thieves pulls off a daring diamond heist that bears all the hallmarks of the Pink Panthers, a group that was thought to no longer exist. In the course of the robbery and investigation, a tragedy occurs, which causes the worlds of several folks to unexpectedly collide. The series explores the interplay between the thieves, traffickers, government officials, war criminals, and bankers who are all affected by this heist. Among these folks are insurance adjuster Naomi Franckom (Samantha Morton, Minority Report), who’s haunted by her past service for the UN; Naomi’s boss Tom Kendle (John Hurt, Doctor Who), who specializes in diamond recovery; thief Milan Celik (Goran Bogdan), who’s trying to get money for his brother’s heart surgery; and French police officer Khalil Rachedi (Tahar Rahim), a man whose troubled past resurfaces.

The series is based on an idea by French journalist Jérôme Pierrat, was co-created and written by Jack Thorne (Skins), and directed by Johan Renck (Breaking Bad). I always love a good heist story, I like the pedigree of the folks behind the show, and from the trailer this series looks really interesting! I’m looking forward to checking out tonight’s premiere, and since it’s only 6 episodes, it’s not a huge time commitment for my already-full DVR!

On tonight’s premiere, “The Animal,” a heist in Marseilles bears the earmarks of a notorious gang thought to be out of the business.

Check out how the thieves pull off the diamond heist tonight on Sundance Channel at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Criminal Minds, The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, black-ish, Empire, and The Americans.

Megan’s Choice

criminalminds413smallI would be lying if I said that I didn’t already miss Derek on Criminal Minds, but at least last episode we got to see Prentiss again. (Yes, I’m aware she’s not as sexy.) Prentiss was on a mission tracking down an international serial killer who ended up stateside again, so she called her old team in to help. It was a very intense and messy case, but eventually they helped her solve it and put the demons from the case away. I am curious as to whether we will see more of Emily this season or if that was just a ploy by the writers to keep us in check from losing the amazing Derek. Time will tell.

On tonight’s episode, “Inner Beauty,” the BAU searches for an UnSub who is purposely disfiguring victims. Also, Rossi has an awkward reunion with his ex-wife, Hayden Montgomery, who kept his daughter, Joy, a secret from him for nearly 30 years.

To find out if Rossi can let the past go, tune in to CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching The Voice, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, Strong, and black-ish.
