If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/20/16

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Jenny’s Choice

bull920smallMy pick tonight is the series premiere of Bull. Michael Weatherly moves from being Tony DiNozzo on NCIS to playing Dr. Jason Bull in this drama inspired by the early career of Dr. Phil McGraw, found of one of the most prolific trial consulting firms of all time. Dr. Bull and his team of experts at TAC (Trial Analysis Corporation) combine psychology, human intuition, and high-tech data to learn what makes jurors, attorneys, witnesses, and the accused tick. His team includes: his brother-in-law Benny Colón (Freddy Rodriguez), who plays a defense attorney in mock trials; Marissa Morgan (Geneva Carr), a cutting-edge neurolinguistics expert from the Department of Homeland Security; former NYPD detective Danny James (Jaime Lee Kirchner), the firm’s tough but relatable investigator; haughty millennial hacker Cable McCrory (Annabelle Attanasio), who is responsible for gathering cyber intelligence; and Chunk Palmer (Chris Jackson), a fashion-conscious stylist and former All-American lineman who fine tunes clients’ appearances for trial.

I’ve seen tonight’s premiere, and it’s a great CBS procedural – just enough of the same to know I’ll love the show yet different enough to give it a bit of a new twist. Michael Weatherly is adorable and cocky, and his team is fun, although we don’t get to see a ton from them in the premiere. I can’t wait to see more of this one.

On tonight’s episode, “The Necklace,” when a wealthy young woman is killed and a young man is charged with her murder, his very wealthy, very well-known father hires Dr. Bull to help convince a jury to find the boy not guilty. Frederick Weller guest stars.

See Dr. Bull at work tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Chopped Junior, NCIS, Chopped, & NCIS: NOLA.

brooklyn99920smallI’m really excited for the return of Brooklyn Nine-Nine tonight, which heads back to Tuesday nights for its fourth season. Last season, the Nine-Nine was trying to track down Jimmy “The Butcher” Figgis. Amy even went undercover as a prisoner (and Jake as an OB-GYN) in a women’s prison in order to try to get close to Figgis’s sister. However, Figgis had managed to turn an FBI agent working on the case and then threatened the lives of Jake and Captain Holt. So the two were put in a witness protection program and sent to Coral Palms, Florida, without any contact with their loved ones – just as things were going really well between Jake and Amy!

As the fourth season picks up, we get to see the hilarious new lives that “Greg” (Holt) and “Larry” (Jake) have made for themselves while awaiting Figgis’s capture. I thoroughly enjoyed tonight’s premiere – the relationship between Jake and Captain Holt has always been my favorite part of the show, and so I didn’t even mind that the other characters were not in tonight’s episode. They have set up a fun new dynamic between Jake and Holt, and watching them try to pull off these ridiculous new personas leads to a lot of laughs! It makes me kind of hope the Nine-Nine takes their time capturing Figgis so that I can see more of Greg & Larry!

On tonight’s premiere, “Coral Palms, Pt. 1,” Jake and Holt continue their new lives in Florida under the Witness Protection Program while Jimmy remains at large, but their identities may be revealed after a video of the pair goes viral. Maya Rudolph, Rhea Perlman, & Jorma Taccone guest star.

Meet Greg and Larry tonight on FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Bull, This Is Us, New Girl, Scream Queens, Halt and Catch Fire, and Chrisley Knows Best.

Megan’s Choice

thisisus920smallI was fortunate enough to get a chance to watch the pilot of This Is Us, and I am absolutely in love with this show now! It helps that the cast is fabulous, including Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia as a wonderful married couple. I’ve loved them both since their early work.

The show follows a group of people while their paths cross and their life stories intertwine in curious ways. It’s a new family drama that shouldn’t be missed.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” several people with unexpectedly intertwined lives start noticing coincidences about one another.

To check out this new family drama, tune in to NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching The Voice, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, NCIS, Bull, Scream Queens, NCIS: NOLA, and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
