Tonight is the series premiere of The Pop Game on Lifetime at 10/9c. The series won’t miss a note, following music industry icon Timbaland as he works with five aspiring young vocal artists, all vying to be the next big thing on the charts. Timbaland’s team of writers, producers and top celebrity guest artists including JoJo, Macy Gray, Nelly Furtado, and Jordin Sparks, will assist the kids and their manager parents in challenges designed to teach and test the skills they will need to grace some of the world’s biggest stages. Timbaland, a multi-platinum Grammy winning super-producer and artist, has stamped his indelible imprint on the music scene since the mid-1990s, having helped create career-defining hits for artists such as Aaliyah, Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliott, Destiny’s Child, Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, Drake, Katy Perry and Jay-Z, among others. From developing a distinct vocal style and image, to collaborating with other artists, maximizing vocal talent and handling their paces with rigorous choreography, Timbaland will teach these young artists how to take command of the audience, but only one will walk away with a record contract with his label, Mosely Music Group.

Finally, tonight is the series premiere of Stranded with a Million Dollars on MTV at 10/9c. The series drops 10 adventurers on an island with nothing but the clothes on their backs and $1 million in cash. Those who survive for 40 days filled with gut-wrenching journeys and demanding physical challenges will split the money as their prize. The catch? They can buy all of the survival supplies and creature comforts they desire, but everything is crazy expensive (think $30K for a tent), all decisions to make a purchase require a group majority, and the cost comes out of their shared prize money. The participants are free to leave the island at any point by shooting a flare gun indicating they’re ready to throw in the towel and leave their pride and accumulated cash behind. Friends and foes are forced to work together in an intense group dynamic that tests psychological limits, pushes personalities to the brink and leaves everyone wondering who, if anyone, will make it to the end in this genre-busting series that would leave Katniss Everdeen breathless and the Lord of the Flies boys running for the hills. Adding a modern spin to the survival show construct, the show relies on retrofitted drone cameras and robo-cam technology for principle photography. The unique fly-on-the wall result provides a rarely seen perspective for viewers, while truly adding a layer of isolation for the survivors as they fight brutal conditions…and each other.

Tonight is the series premiere of The Blacklist: Redemption on NBC at 10/9c. In this thrilling new spinoff, the world’s most elusive criminals from Red’s infamous list come together to form an elite mercenary team as they try to regain their self-worth after a lifetime of inflicting damage on the world. Seeking redemption for their past transgressions, this new group solves problems governments don’t dare touch. Blacklist undercover operative Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) joins the team’s brilliant and cunning chief, Susan “Scottie” Hargrave (Famke Janssen), as well as lethal assassin and Tom’s nemesis Matias Solomon (Edi Gathegi), as they aim to be a force for good and right dangerous wrongs. Along with highly skilled members Nez Rowan (Tawny Cypress) and hacker Dumont (Adrian Martinez), they will undertake seemingly impossible missions, all in the hopes of repairing their damaged souls.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Sun Records on CMT 10/9c. Set in Memphis during the tumultuous early days of the civil rights movement, the show tells the untold story of nothing less than the birth of rock ‘n’ roll. Guided by Sam Phillips, young musicians like Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis combined the styles of hillbilly country with the 1950s R&B sound created by artists like Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Fats Domino and Ike Turner, and changed the course of music forever. The series chronicles these young artists’ often jarring and sudden meteoric rise to fame in the face of sweeping political change and social unrest. The all-star cast includes Chad Michael Murray (Sun Records founder Sam Phillips), Billy Gardell (Presley and Arnold’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker), Drake Milligan (Elvis Presley), Kevin Fonteyne (Johnny Cash), Christian Lees (Jerry Lee Lewis), Jonah Lees (Jimmy Swaggart), Trevor Donovan (Eddy Arnold), Keir O’Donnell (Dewey Phillips), Jennifer Holland (Sam’s wife Becky Phillips), Margaret Anne Florence (Sam’s assistant Marion Keisker), and Kerry Holliday (Ike Turner).

Tonight is also the complete first season premiere of Patriot on Amazon at 3:01AM/2:01AMc. The pilot premiered in November 2015. Starring Michael Dorman (Wonderland), Terry O’Quinn (Lost), Kurtwood Smith (That 70’s Show), and Michael Chernus (Orange is the New Black), the show follows the complicated life of intelligence officer John Tavner (Dorman). His latest assignment is to prevent Iran from going nuclear, requiring him to forgo all safety nets and assume a perilous “non-official cover” -0 that of a mid-level employee at a Midwestern industrial piping firm. A bout with PTSD, the Federal government’s incompetence and the intricacies of keeping a day job in the “front” industrial piping company cause a barrage of ever-escalating fiascos that jeopardize Tavner’s mission.

Finally, tonight is the complete first season premiere of Ultimate Beastmaster on Netflix at 3:01AM/2:01AMc. From six regions across the world, Netflix brings together the athletic elite in a competition series that will exhaust their physical and mental stamina and push them to their breaking points. With global bragging rights at stake, these contestants must leave it all on the course in order to prove victorious. This is the first international competition series of its kind with six customized local versions featuring local languages, competitors and hosts from each competing country. Those countries are: Brazil, Germany, Japan, Mexico, South Korea and the U.S. It series will feature 108 competitors, 18 from each country, in total. Each hour-long episode will feature 12 competitors, two from each country, who will take their shot at running one of the most physically demanding obstacle courses ever devised, “The Beast.” At the end of each episode, a “Beastmaster” will be crowned and in the final episode of the season, the nine individual winners from each episode will compete against each other for the chance for one contestant to become the Ultimate Beastmaster.
