If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/16/17

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Tonight, Veep returns to HBO for its sixth season. When we last left off, the state of the presidency was left to a vote by the Senate. Tom James offered Selina the position of vice president should he win the presidency, but she turned this down, saying she would rather be Secretary of State. Selina tried everything to improve public opinion of her, and Jonah even became a Senator so he could vote for her. However, all of this was moot because the vote came down to a tie, and Vice President Doyle made the tie-breaking vote for Laura Montez, because she promised him the job of Secretary of State. And to add insult to injury, moments after Montez was sworn in, she was given credit for freeing Tibet and was said to be in line for the Nobel peace price, which was the legacy that Selina had been working hard to claim for herself.

I’m really curious to see where this season will go now that Selina is no longer in office. What are she and her former staffers up to now? What kind of schemes is Selina plotting to try to establish her legacy? And does she have plans to try to re-run for president?

On tonight’s premiere, “Omaha,” Selina tries to secure her legacy one year after losing the presidency. Meanwhile, Dan tries to fit in at his new job; and Amy’s D.C.-style campaign tactics are a little too rough for her new coworkers.

Catch up with Selina tonight on HBO at 10:30/9:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Match Game, Into the Badlands, The Leftovers, and Guerrilla.

It’s a Food Network night for me, and as a longtime fan of the cooking competition shows and chefs on the network, I’m doubly excited about tonight’s span of episodes. To start off with, there’s a 1-hour special called The Legend of Iron Chef. In preparation for the new competition that airs after the special, host Alton Brown looks back through more than 12 years of Iron Chef America battles to show us some of the greatest victories, thrilling upsets, and world-changing dishes. It’ll be fun to look back on that and see what I remember actually watching, but I know I’ll see some battles and dishes I didn’t see the first time!

Then it’s the premiere of Iron Chef Gauntlet, which is not exactly a reboot of either Iron Chef America OR The Next Iron Chef. It’s kind of a combination of both. The six-episode event starts with seven chefs competing against one another for the chance to become an Iron Chef. Each week, one will come out on top, while one will be sent home. When the final chef is left, he or she must battle three legendary Iron Chefs in rapid-succession battles: Bobby Flay, Masaharu Morimoto, and Michael Symon. Only if they beat all three Iron Chefs will they become one themselves (I believe…). Tough, tough, tough competition!! Eek!

Then, to top it all off, tonight’s the premiere of Iron Chef Eats, where familiar faces from Iron Chef America reveal their favorite food spots from around the country. There’s also an online digital companion series that offers fans culinary inspiration, along with tips and tricks that home cooks can use in their own kitchens.

All of these combine to give us a fun night of food television, and I can’t wait!

On tonight’s premiere of Iron Chef Gauntlet, “Into the Wild,” Alton presents an array of wild ingredients, and the chefs must use their expert techniques to make a top-tier dish right out of the gate; Alton determines the best dishes; the bottom-rated chef competes in a Secret Ingredient Showdown.

Then on the premiere of Iron Chef Eats, “Beloved Burgers,” Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli at Sister Midnight; Iron Chef winner Madison Cowan at Salvation Burger; Iron Chef Gauntlet competitor Sarah Grueneberg at RPM Steak; Iron Chef winner Tim Love at Cafe No Se in Austin. That’s followed by a second new episode, “Lip-Smacking Barbecue,” featuring Iron Chef Michael Symon at Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint; Iron Chef winner Lee Anne Wong at Franklin Barbecue; Iron Chef Gauntlet competitor Jonathon Sawyer at Hometown Bar-B-Que; Iron Chef winner Madison Cowan at Bludso’s Bar and Que.

Grab some snacks and watch all the fun cooking action tonight on Food Network starting at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Chicago Justice & Match Game.
