I’m so excited about tonight’s series premiere of Reverie. It comes from Mickey Fisher, the creator of Extant, and stars Sarah Shahi, whom I’ve loved in everything I’ve ever seen her in, like Person of Interest, Fairly Legal, & Life. She plays Mara Kint, a former hostage negotiator and expert on human behavior who endured a horrible tragedy in her personal life and quit the police force and became a college professor. But her former boss, Charlie Ventana (played by the incomparable Dennis Haysbert, from one of my favorite shows ever, The Unit, among others), recruits her to do what she does best in an entirely new way. He now works with a company that invented a highly advanced immersive virtual-reality program called Reverie, in which you can live out your wildest dreams. It’s so good that they’re finding some people don’t want to come back out from it, and if they stay, they’ll die. So she’s brought in to go in with them and convince them to come out.

It’s such a fun, cool premise. I’ve seen the pilot, and it isn’t surprising that Sarah Shahi rocks it. She’s brilliant in everything, and this is no exception. The cast also includes Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes, Covert Affairs), Jessica Lu (Awkward.), & Kathryn Morris (Cold Case).

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot/Apertus,” former hostage negotiator Mara Kint is hired by tech company Oniratech to save people who have lost themselves in a sophisticated virtual reality program called Reverie.

Step inside Reverie tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing American Ninja Warrior, MasterChef, & Brother vs Brother.

Tonight, FX’s 1980s Cold War spy drama, The Americans, returns for its penultimate season. As the fourth season came to a close, things got really intense. William had arranged a meeting to hand off the vial of the Lassa virus to Philip, but once he realized the Feds were tailing him, he smashed the vial, infecting himself and alerting Philip that he was walking into a trap. The Centre started to fear that William might turn on Philip & Elizabeth while being interrogated in the hospital, so Gabriel left it up to them if they wanted to go back to Russia. In his dying words, William revealed to Stan that there was an undercover spy couple with kids living the American dream. Meanwhile, Paige and Stan’s son Matthew were starting to get close, so Philip told Paige he wanted her to break it off, as it was too dangerous. And finally, in Russia, Philip’s illegitimate son, Mischa, had been released from his detention thanks to some powerful friends. Later, Mischa asked his grandfather for information about the father he never met and decided to search for him in America.

I was both happy and sad when it was announced last year that The Americans had been picked up for a final two seasons to close out the series (13 episodes this year and 10 episodes next year). While it’s sad to think of this excellent show coming to an end, I’m really happy that the writers can now safely work to a planned conclusion with an end date in mind. This series has a wonderful slow burn, with many tense moments and unexpected twists, and the acting is amazing. I’m looking forward to seeing what Stan does with his new information about the existence of a spy family – will he start to suspect his own neighbors? Will Mischa arrive in the US looking for Philip, and how will that affect the Jennings’ undercover work? And will Paige finally turn to the dark side and join the family business?

On tonight’s premiere, “Amber Waves,” the Centre sends a new operation unlike anything before to Philip and Elizabeth, which puts more strain on their already tense marriage and family life.

See how Philip and Elizabeth deal with the new operation tonight on FX at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Middle, American Housewife, Fresh Off the Boat, The Real O’Neals, This Is Us, Bones, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Imposters, Detroiters, Switched at Birth, Face Off, The Detour, Teachers, and Chrisley Knows Best.

chicagopd54smallIt’s been just over a month since we last saw Chicago PD, and I’ve missed it! It’s my favorite of the “Chicago” shows, although I love all three. On the last episode, police got calls about a woman who’d stabbed a man, and it turned out the woman was a kidnapping victim who escaped when he was moving her to a new location. The guy was a total sociopath. He was a realtor and he had kept this woman chained in the basement of one of the houses. It turned out his wife was a previous victim he’d kidnapped who adamantly refused to believe the police when they tried to tell her who she really was. It finally sunk in at the end, and they were able to arrest the guy. But he was really creepy!

I’m not a big fan of the Burgess/Roman pairing they seem to be shoving down our throats. Burgess & Roman were great as partners, and Burgess is still not over Ruzek, so why are they forcing that on us? Argh. Frustrating! But I do love seeing Lindsay and Halstead! They should definitely keep giving us more of them. LOL

On tonight’s episode, “In a Duffel Bag,” responding to a call about a suspicious duffel bag at the Chicago Lakefront, Voight is horrified to discover that the bag contains the frigid and unmoving body of a newborn baby. Determined to find the culprit who abandoned the infant, Intelligence receives a promising lead based on information provided by Chicago Med, and Ruzek helps zero in on a potential suspect. Meanwhile, Voight is surprised to hear that his son is in town, and Burgess and Roman grow closer.

See if Intelligence can track down whoever left the baby in the duffel bag tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Heartbeat, Rosewood, The Goldbergs, Criminal Minds, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, black-ish, & Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.

theamericans427smallThe Americans is such an amazing show that more people need to be watching. Last week, things got really intense. Philip suspected that Martha’s cover had been blown and that the feds had discovered that she was the rat in their organization. So he immediately took her to a safe house, where Gabriel was waiting to watch over her. “Clark” revealed the truth about him being KGB to Martha and tried to comfort her, but she was devastated. And Gabriel and Elizabeth were shocked and upset at the news that Philip had previously revealed his true physical appearance to Martha. Meanwhile, Martha’s sudden disappearance from work and her clearing out of her home only intensified Stan and Agent Aderholt’s suspicions of her, which they brought to Agent Gaad, who felt betrayed by his longtime employee. The next day, Martha was so fed up that she stormed out of the safe house. Gabriel went after her, quietly pleading with her to return, but she threatened to scream that he was KGB if he came any closer.

Will Gabriel allow “Clark” to try to bring Martha on as a KGB asset, or is she too much of a loose cannon who needs to be eliminated? What will the feds’ next move be? Will Oleg, distraught over the execution of Nina, find his way to Stan as his new double-agent? And what’s going on with these bio-weapons?

On tonight’s episode, “Travel Agents,” stakes are raised as the KGB and the FBI race to track down an agent.

Learn who finds the agent first tonight on FX at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, The Middle, The Goldbergs, black-ish, Empire, and Arrow.

criminalmindsbb46smallI’m enjoying Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. The cast is great and the chemistry is fun, and the cases are great. Last week, an Egyptian-American man, Malik, in Egypt was killed via chemical agent, and then they learned another Egyptian man, Jabir, had been killed as well. They learned that Malik was gay and thought that was the reason he’d been killed, but Jabir wasn’t known in the small, quiet gay community, and when they found a third victim, they knew it wasn’t a hate crime. In the end, it turned out that Jabir’s wife was the killer, targeting the men she believed responsible for her husband’s death (an incident in their past), but she killed herself before they could take her in. Thankfully, they rescued Malik’s boyfriend/significant other, who Jabir’s wife had buried alive in the hopes that he would have a slow death.

One of the things I love most about this show is seeing the different cultures and how things are so vastly different from the US – from dealing with sexuality, women, or whatever, it really brings things into perspective for me about how lucky we are to live in this country. It may not seem like it sometimes, but we are. Hopefully on tonight’s double episodes, we’ll get more proof of that, as it’s nice to be reminded of it!

On tonight’s first episode, “Whispering Death,” the IRT travels to Japan, where the team assists local law enforcement to investigate a string of homicides made to look like suicides. Also, Mae tries to encourage Clara to get out and enjoy herself. Then on the second episode, “The Lonely Heart,” the IRT heads to Paris to search for an UnSub targeting Americans who live there.

Travel the world with the International Response Team tonight on CBS starting at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Heartbeat, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, Wahlburgers, black-ish, Lopez, Mystery Diners, & The Soul Man.
