NBC’s Superstore is always one of the highlights of my Thursday night TV watching. Last week it was Valentine’s Day at Cloud 9, and Amy and Glenn tried to play matchmaker for Myrtle, but their attempts to set her up with another elderly employee resulted in a sexual harassment investigation. Meanwhile, Garrett learned about Mateo’s secret relationship with Jeff and tried to push his jealousy over Sandra’s pretend relationship to the boiling point. And Jonah went undercover to help Dina catch a shoplifter, but he ended up falling for his mark. So Dina made sure to burn that potential relationship to the ground by pretending that Jonah was the deadbeat father to her children. But in the end, Jonah was back to joking and having a good time with Amy as the two cleared the store of its Valentine’s Day decorations.

Earlier this week, NBC announced the wonderful news that Superstore had been picked up for a third season. This series just keeps getting funnier and funnier – this ensemble cast just works so well together and has really found their groove. When I was watching the show last week, I couldn’t help but be reminded of The Office, when that show was really firing on all cylinders. I’m so happy there are plenty more crazy adventures to come for the Cloud 9 crew.

On tonight’s episode, “Super Hot Store,” angry tensions magnify when the store’s thermostat breaks, leaving the staffers miserably hot inside Cloud 9. Meanwhile, Dina and Garrett find a way to pass the time, and Cheyenne helps Glenn through an existential crisis as he tries to fix the heater.

See how Dina and Garrett occupy themselves tonight on NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, The Great Indoors, Life in Pieces, Training Day, Powerless, The Blacklist, MasterChef Junior, My Kitchen Rules, Riverdale, Top Chef, and Colony.

topchef2016smallIt took me a good handful of seasons to start watching Top Chef, but I haven’t missed any episode since, which means I’m excited that it’s back tonight for the start of season 14! This season starts off in Charleston, South Carolina, where eight new chefs join eight returning chefs to compete for the grand prize of $125,000 and the title of Top Chef. This season’s new chefs come from all over, from Portland, Oregon, to Florida and New York City. The returning chefs feature some big names, especially if you’re a fan of this show: Sam Talbot from Season 2; Casey Thompson from Season 3 & Season 8: All-Stars; Amanda Baumgarten from Season 7; Brooke Williamson, Sheldon Simeon, & John Tesar from Season 10; Shirley Chung from Season 11; & Katsuji Tanabe from Season 12.

My personal pick? I love Brooke, Shirley, & Katsuji, so…we’ll see how the newbies stack up against them! Also, I’m happy that Graham Elliot (former judge on MasterChef and competitor on Top Chef Masters) is joining Tom, Gail, and Padma, as well as all the great guest judges, Richard Blais, Michael Voltaggio, Hugh Acheson, & more.

On tonight’s episode, “Something Old, Something New,” the new chefs enter the kitchen first to cook as many dishes as possible in one hour using a whole chicken; the veterans square off to re-imagine shrimp and grits.

To see which chef gets taken out first, tune in to Bravo at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Rosewood, The Great Indoors, Chopped, The Great American Baking Show, & Beat Bobby Flay.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/15/14

As I write this up, the KC Royals are down by 1 at the top of the 2nd. Eek. On the regular TV front, I’m still loving the new season and I’m still shocked we haven’t had any cancellations yet! So enjoy it while you can because I can’t imagine that’ll last. For tonight, check out our recommendations.

blackish1015smallI’m still enjoying black-ish on ABC. Last week was all about the “nod” and Junior not having any black friends. When Dre realized his son didn’t nod at another black student as they walked by one another, he set out to get his son some black friends. The funniest part was when he drove by a group of black teenagers and stopped, seemingly trying to “lure” them into his car and to his house. Also funny was the very odd/strange/slightly offensive guy he met at work. When he and his son came over to Dre & Rainbow’s house for dinner, his son and Junior got along well…but not because of their skin color. Dre realized it was because they shared the same interests. He’d been about to kick the co-worker out for getting into his closet and wearing his shoes that even he’d never worn, but once he saw Junior and his new friend, he realized it was a sacrifice he was willing to make—very sweet.

On tonight’s episode, “Crazy Mom,” when Dre agrees to take over Rainbow’s “mom” duties for a week, the overwhelming praise he gets from everyone at his kids’ school goes to his head. He soon finds himself pushing the envelope to outdo everyone, even the school’s “crazy mom.”

See how Dre fares as Mr. Mom tonight on ABC at 9:31/8:31c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Hell’s Kitchen, The Mysteries of Laura, Criminal Minds, Cutthroat Kitchen, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, Chicago PD, Stalker, & Top Chef.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/5/14

Eek. Well, I got about 8 inches of snow yesterday, so my kid was home from school Tuesday and today both. He’s thrilled. Me? Not so much. 😉 LOL The snow is beautiful, but like Megan—and most of the US & Canada—I’m tired of winter. Heh There’s lots of great TV on tonight to curl up with since it’s so cold out, so check out our recommendations. 🙂

criminalminds25smallTonight is a huge milestone for Criminal Minds, and the big episode wraps up what began at the end of last week’s ep. Last week’s Unsub was a guy who had planned to commit suicide, but he ended up going on a vigilante killing spree. I’m not sure what this would say about me to a psychiatrist, but…good for him? No, murder is never a good thing, but I was kinda rooting for the guy. In the end, when cornered, he chose to take his own life. He was grieving for his wife and his son, who had died in prison, and he knew he wasn’t getting out of the situation alive. Along the same lines, an old military buddy of Rossi’s sent him a special handgun, and Rossi took time off to go check up on him. He wanted to reunite with his son and meet his grandson, but his son didn’t want to chance getting hurt again. Rossi convinced the man that those things take time and to go back to the place he was living and just wait. Then, the man’s son and his family showed up, and it was a happy reunion all around. Finally, in the last minute, JJ was kidnapped, which leads us into the big 200th episode!

On tonight’s episode, “200,” when JJ is kidnapped, the BAU delves into her time at the State Department to find clues to her disappearance and uncover a secret mission that now puts her life in danger. To help with their search for JJ, the team calls upon Prentiss to help in the crisis. Paget Brewster returns as Emily Prentiss. Also returning are Jayne Atkinson as Erin Strauss, Esai Morales as Section Chief Mateo Cruz, Josh Stewart as JJ’s Husband, Det. William LaMontagne, Jr., and Nicholas Brendon as Kevin Lynch. Debrah Farentino guest stars as Undersecretary Rosemary Jackson.

Find out what JJ’s time away has to do with her kidnapping and see if the team can get her back safely tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Melissa & Joey, Buy This Restaurant, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, Psych, CSI, The Exes, Men at Work, Top Chef, Chicago PD, & Wahlburgers.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/4/13

Yesterday, I FINALLY got a new battery for my van. Let’s hear it for not having to get a boost every time I need to go somewhere! Hooray! As if that wasn’t enough good news for one day, I later found out I won a cookie baking contest at my daughter’s school, which ended up with me getting a gift card to the mall—in woman language, that’s just like flowers. 🙂 While I ride my high of good news—because let’s be honest, the bad news is probably just around the corner…lol—let’s see what’s on TV tonight to keep us all happy.

Megan’s Choice

superfunnight124smallI am having a serious girl crush on the beautiful, talented, and hilarious Rebel Wilson, as well as her character on Super Fun Night. It’s true that a lot of critics have been all crotchety about the show (even some of my fellow post writers…), but I really don’t care, because it makes me happy. By happy, I mean laughing my butt off and feeling like a ray of sunshine after every episode. There’s something awesome about watching a woman on TV truly own who she is, and Kimmie (Rebel Wilson) really does own it. Last week’s episode was bittersweet, because Kimmie was fixed up with Richard’s friend, James, and they hit it off. What’s bittersweet about this is that James could see the connection between Richard and Kimmie and graciously stepped back. In all honesty, I want Richard with Kimmie instead of Kendall, but James and Kimmie made a dynamic pair. What I did really enjoy was watching Richard have a turn at being jealous when he realized how much fun Kimmie was having with James. He felt left out because Kimmie is the person he has the most fun with. When Richard was honest with Kendall about having more fun with Kimmie than her, I cheered, but then I felt bad for Kendall because she isn’t all bad—just most of the time.

Tonight, ABC is airing the original first episode as a flashback so we can see where it all started. The episode, so originally titled “Pilot,” shows us Kimmie getting a promotion that threatens a long-standing tradition with her two best friends and roommates.

To go back to the beginning, tune in to ABC at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching The X Factor, Killer Contact, Mob City, Kirstie, Christmas in Rockerfeller Center, On the Rocks, and Top Chef.
