Hawaii Five-0 is back tonight, and I’m so anxious to see what happened after last season’s finale, when Steve was supposedly shot. Most of the finale was all about hunting down Aaron Wright, which involved him hacking the emergency alert system to cause panic that there was an incoming missile in order for him to get away. But they figured out where he was headed – a private airfield – and though they didn’t get there in time to stop him, Jerry brilliantly hacked the plane’s systems and caused it to start losing fuel. Rather than crash and burn, Wright turned the plane around and landed…right into police custody. That leads us back to the gunshot at Five-0 headquarters.

Omar Hassan’s wife wanted to come by with her young son to make “amends” for her husband’s reign of terror and end the cycle of violence. The visit seemed to go well, but on the way out, she shoved her kid off to the side, pulled out a white plastic gun, and fired it in Steve’s direction off-camera.

So was Steve shot? Did someone else jump in front of the bullet? From the description of tonight’s episode, it sure seems like someone maybe died, but I haven’t heard of anyone leaving…so who knows! Also, Katrina Law joins the cast as Quinn Liu.

On tonight’s episode, “Ua ’eha ka ’ili i ka maka o ka ihe (Hawaiian for ‘The skin has been hurt by the point of the spear’),” a new ally helps McGarrett and Five-0 when mob bosses on the island are being targeted by an assassin. Also, Five-0 says goodbye to one of their own. Rob Morrow guest stars.

Don’t miss it tonight on CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching The Great British Baking Show, American Housewife, & Blue Bloods.

Tonight, Syfy kicks off a new Thursday night lineup, beginning with the second season premiere of Van Helsing. In the first season, Vanessa Helsing awoke from a long coma to find herself in a world overrun by vampires and learned that her young daughter was missing. She banded with a group of survivors while she looked for her daughter. In the process, she discovered that she had special powers — her blood could turn vampires back into humans. Dmitri, the leader of the vampires, managed to capture Vanessa and brought her to his citadel, where he had his doctor perform experiments on her, trying to learn more about her unique blood. However, the experiments seem to have left Vanessa with super-human strength, and she managed to break free. As Vanessa roamed the building, she found her daughter, but Dylan had been turned into a vampire. Meanwhile, Taka, with the help of vampire Rebecca, led a small Resistance army into the citadel to take down the vampires. While the others spread out, he found Dmitri and was about to kill him, when Dmitri made him an offer.

Tonight’s second season premiere picks up right where the first season left off. How will Vanessa deal with her vampire daughter? Will she try to use her blood to save her, or is it already too late? The same goes for Julius, who was also turned at the end of last season. What did Dmitri offer Taka, and will he betray the Resistance? Will Vanessa rejoin the others? How will she react to reuniting with Mohamad after his betrayal last season? It should be another exciting season!

While she’s not in tonight’s episode, Missy Peregrym (Rookie Blue) will be joining the cast this season as Scarlett Harker. I’m sure that last name is no coincidence, so I’m looking forward to seeing how she fits into the story. I had a chance to talk with some of the cast members and producers about the show at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. You can find my video interviews at NoReruns.net.

On tonight’s premiere, “Began Again,” Vanessa and Mohamad search for Dylan as Dmitri’s citadel crumbles around them; Flesh acquires an unexpected ally in one of the Resistance Fighters; Taka clashes with the Vampire Elite.

Catch all the action tonight on Syfy at 9/8c.

macgyver923smallThis season, I was looking forward to two new shows in particular: Lethal Weapon, which everyone seems to have enjoyed more than they thought they would…and the other? Tonight’s premiere of MacGyver. I was a big fan when I caught the original series on repeats years ago, and Lucas Till is adorable. So I had high hopes – and after seeing a screener for the first episode a couple of weeks ago, I have to say I wasn’t disappointed in the least. In case you don’t know…

Angus “Mac” MacGyver is a young special agent in a clandestine organization within the US government, and his specialty is basically being able to do almost anything with almost nothing – like disarming a bomb with nothing but a paperclip. In the original series, MacGyver is a bit older and has been around a while. So this iteration is us seeing Mac in his younger years, before he turns into the MacGyver from the original series. In this one, Mac works with former CIA agent Jack Dalton (George Eads, CSI) and Riley Davis (Tristin Mays), a computer hacker they “break out” of jail to help with their case but who ends up an integral member of the team. Their boss Patricia Thornton is played by Sandrine Holt, and Mac’s roommate, Wilt Bozer, who doesn’t know what Mac really does, is played by Justin Hires (from TV’s failed Rush Hour drama).

On tonight’s episode, “The Rising,” Angus “Mac” MacGyver and Jack Dalton, special agents for the Department of External Services (DXS), join forces to recover a missing bioweapon that has the ability to destroy hundreds of thousands of people with one single drop.

Meet Mac, Jack, and Riley tonight on CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Hell’s Kitchen, Last Man Standing, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods, & Van Helsing.
