If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/22/15

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

atoz122smallUnfortunately, the NBC comedy A to Z comes to a close tonight after just 13 episodes. Last week, Andrew got a visit from his father, and Zelda tried everything to win him over, but nothing seemed to work. However, Andrew soon realized that his father was just worried that his relationship with Zelda would leave little time for his father. Meanwhile, Lydia tried to implement a new policy at Wallflower, requiring that all membership cancellations had to be done in person, but this kind of backfired on her. However, her relationship with Dane still seems to be going quite well.

Andrew and Zelda haven’t even moved in with one another yet, and we are already at the series finale of the show! How will it end? Did the writers take the early news of their demise to heart and write a satisfying conclusion to this 13-episode story? Will we get some sort of fast-forward montage? Or will we just be left hanging, wondering what happens to this couple at the end of their 8 months of dating? And what about the rest of the characters? It seems like a lot to fit into one half-hour, but I’m hoping for the best tonight!

On tonight’s episode, “M Is for Meant to Be,” Andrew’s former girlfriend arrives, stirring up tension and causing Zelda to feel threatened. In addition, Zelda mulls over making a big career move. The series finale.

Find out how it ends tonight on NBC at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Elementary, Parenthood, Backstrom, Archer, and Babylon.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/6/14

Thanksgiving is still three weeks away, but the Christmas decorations and products are already flooding the store shelves, and the Hallmark Channel has been airing a different Christmas-themed made-for-TV movie every night! It seems like the holiday season arrives earlier and earlier every year! We’ve got some suggestions for some non-holiday fare for you to check out on TV tonight.

atoz116smallA to Z may be a dead show walking now, but I am still finding it charming, and it will be sad to see it go. Last week, Andrew and Zelda had decided to abandon their annual Halloween traditions with their best friends. However, this didn’t sit well with Stu and Stephanie, who tried to combine their annual themes into one party, which meant trying to mesh Laverne and Shirley with the Ghostbusters! Needless to say, this did not end well.

While the show has been canceled, NBC has agreed to produce all 13 episodes it originally ordered. So, hopefully, the creators take this opportunity to write to a satisfying ending. After all, the premise of the series is that it chronicles the 8+ month period of time that Andrew and Zelda dated, so there was already this closed period of time in which the series would take place. I am really hoping that in episode 13, we find out what happens at the end of that dating period.

On tonight’s episode, “F Is for Fight, Fight, Fight!” Andrew tries to prove his manliness after failing to defend Zelda in a rough situation outside a bar. Meanwhile, Zelda takes on a ruggedly handsome farmer as a client at her law firm.

Find out if Andrew’s able to man up tonight on NBC at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, The McCarthys, Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, Bad Judge, Parenthood, Bones, Gracepoint, White Collar, Covert Affairs, and Newsreaders.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/9/14

I finally managed to track down an iPhone 6 Plus yesterday—while it was at first huge, after holding it for a few minutes, my old iPhone now seems so tiny. Speaking of massive things… How about the sheer number of shows that are on every night?! So much good stuff to watch and not enough time to do so. So we’re here to help you choose what to check out tonight.

greysanatomy109smallThis season on Grey’s Anatomy, we’ve got another Grey (sort of) at the hospital, and in last week’s episode, we got to learn a lot more about Maggie Pierce. The episode followed Maggie through her very bad day, where everything she did just seemed to end up all wrong—she was constantly forgetting her intern’s name, accidentally got Alex fired, stepped on Owen’s toes by looking into a case he asked her not to, and received a singing telegram from her parents in the middle of the hospital. Throughout the day, she avoided Meredith, but as she met more of the hospital staff and learned more about her half-sister, she begrudgingly gained more respect for her. And so she finally decided to reveal her true identity to Meredith, but this was met with anger and the accusation that it was all a lie.

While I find the Maggie character interesting and somewhat likeable (when she’s not yelling at her intern), I kind of agree with Meredith’s reaction. It is the same thing I thought when this sister bombshell was dropped in the season finale—how would no one have noticed that Ellis Grey was pregnant for 9 months?! Meredith was 5, so she would have known something—and I find it hard to believe that Richard or Thatcher wouldn’t have known. Will there be some kind of DNA test to answer the question definitively? Will Meredith even be welcoming to her either way?

On tonight’s episode, “Got to Be Real,” Alex and Meredith’s friendship ignites jealousy in Jo. Meanwhile, Maggie continues to open up to Richard; Owen wants Callie to use her robotic-limb lab to assist veterans; and Alex and Bailey prepare to face the hospital board.

See how well it goes for Alex and Bailey tonight on ABC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording How to Get Away with Murder, Bad Judge, A to Z, Parenthood, Bones, and Gracepoint.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/2/14

So who’s already overwhelmed (for better or for worse) by all the new fall TV shows?! (*raises hand*) Well, tonight, there are 3 additional new shows starting up, 2 returning CW shows with season premieres, and new episodes of pretty much everything else. So we’ve got some suggestions to help you decide what to check out from tonight’s huge selection…

atoz1002smallOne of my favorite new comedy pilots of the season finally premieres tonight as NBC adds romantic comedy A to Z to its Thursday-night lineup. Andrew (Ben Feldman) is a guy’s guy, but also a romantic, who works for an online dating company. Zelda (Cristin Milioti) is a girl’s girl and a pro-bono lawyer but likes order and being in control. This series chronicles the 8 months the couple dates—from the day they meet, until the day they… Well, that’s for us to find out.

Tonight’s pilot is such a joy to watch—it looks like this is going to be a really charming series, especially with Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy, Married…with Children) providing a delightful commentary. Andrew and Zelda are so likeable, and the actors who play them have great on-screen chemistry. We only got a small glimpse of Milioti’s talent in the final season of How I Met Your Mother, and I’m so glad she’s been given this new opportunity to really shine. The supporting characters also quite amiable—there isn’t an annoying best friend or coworker in the bunch. And that is thanks to the talented supporting cast, which includes Henry Zebrowski, Lenora Crichlow, Christina Kirk, Parvesh Cheena, Hong Chau, and Ben Falcone. I look forward to seeing more of Andrew and Zelda’s relationship and how it develops over the course of the season (and hopefully beyond).

On tonight’s episode, “A Is for Acquaintances,” idealistic online matchmaker Andrew falls for no-nonsense lawyer Zelda in this romantic-comedy series. In the opener, the two meet for the first time when she comes into his online-dating workplace to deal with a misunderstanding. They immediately have chemistry, and he thinks he’s seen her somewhere before.

To see the lovebirds meet, tune in to NBC at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, Bad Judge, Parenthood, Bones, Gracepoint, Food Truck Face Off, and Haven.
