If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/18/14

Another week down, another one beginning. We’re in what pretty much amounts to the last week of the current TV season. Then we’ll have a short rest where there’s not a lot on, and we’ll be complaining… Before long, the summer shows will start, and then we’ll start complaining about wishing we had more free time! (Oh, is that just me? *snicker*) For right now, though, let’s concentrate on those shows still new, so check out our recommendations for tonight.

Jenny’s Choice

americasbestcook518smallI’ve really been enjoying America’s Best Cook on Food Network. Michael Symon is still reigning surpreme, with both his cooks left in the competition. Last week, cutie Chef Marcel Vigneron was the guest judge, and after the chefs had to cook with tough ingredients like octopus, quail, and chicken livers, he sent only Sheri (Team Tyler) and Ben (Team Cat) to the Pressure Cooker, where they had to filet and cook a fish. I liked both Sheri and Ben, although I liked Ben better, and I liked Tyler better…so I wasn’t sure who I was rooting for. In the end, Sheri went home, meaning Michael Symon has two cooks left in the competition, while Cat Cora and Alex Guarnaschelli both have one. I have no idea who will take home the prize, but I know it should be a fun and exciting episode, especially since Bobby Flay is the guest judge!

On tonight’s episode, “Thunderdome Finale,” the final four cooks compete in three challenges, with Bobby Flay eliminating one cook after each, and only one cook and one mentor will stand victorious.

See who takes home the prize of $50,000 tonight on Food Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Funniest Home Videos, American Dream Builders, Guy’s Grocery Games, Signed Sealed Delivered, Cutthroat Kitchen, Kitchen Casino, Hungry Investors, The Mentalist, & Salem.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/4/14

The weekend is going by way too fast for me. I swear, I have no idea where Saturday went. On a good note, it’s a great week for TV, and that starts tonight. Megan would’ve been here, but her poor dog tried to eat a porcupine, so she spent Saturday night at the vet’s, getting him de-quilled and sewn up. Poor thing. JJ’s busy with school and work, so it’s just Kyle and me here to give our recommendations. 🙂 (Oh, and Happy Star Wars Day. 😉 May the fourth be with you…)

americasbestcooksmallI’ve really been enjoying America’s Best Cook. It’s a cooking competition show, which you know I love, and one of the mentors if my favorite celebrity chef, Michael Symon. What’s not to love? Last week, Chef Ron Ben-Israel was the judge for the dessert with bacon episode. Ben, on Cat Cora’s Team South, cut his finger bad enough in the middle of the first challenge that he had to go to the hospital to get it stitched up. Therefore, when he came back in time for the Pressure Cooker, he was able to make a PB&J dish and pulled it off well enough to have the best dish in the Pressure Cooker round, so he stayed in the competition. Sheri and Phillip, both from Tyler Florence’s team, got sent to the Pressure Cooker, too. In the end, Phillip went home because his mousse was good, but the rest of the dish showed a lack of thought and planning and skill.

I’m excited about this episode because from the previews, Stephanie, on Team North, has it out with Chef Symon over cooking fish. She makes some comment about thinking Chef Symon’s never cooked a fish in his life, so she’s basically ignoring him… Ballsy move, and more than a little stupid. So we’ll see if she wises up or not!

On tonight’s episode, “Mentor Meltdown,” as each chef contestant continues in their quest for the title of America’s Best Cook, they are tasked with competing in a brunch challenge, one of the hottest food trends. Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian serves as a guest judge.

To find out who stays and who goes tonight, tune in to Food Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing American Dream Builders, America’s Funniest Home Videos, Food Court Wars, Signed Sealed Delivered, Believe, Cutthroat Kitchen, Hungry Investors, The Mentalist, & Salem.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/13/14

I had a very nice, very relaxing and enjoyable Saturday. Worked on the schedules for the site, played some video games, caught up on a lot of TV, and spent lots of time with family. 🙂 Sunday looks to be more of the same. The only blip on the radar is my left mouse button on my laptop’s touch pad is making a clacking noise. Thankfully it’s under warranty, so HP is sending me all the shipping stuff, so I’ll be sending it off later this week. Again thankfully, we have my old laptop that my husband’s been using, so I’ll be able to use it while mine is getting repaired. Pain in the butt, but whatcha gonna do? To take my mind off that little problem, let’s see what we’re recommending tonight.

americasbestcooksmallAnother new food competition show starts tonight. America’s Best Cook gives home cooks from across the country the chance to win $50,000 by competing under the guidance of Food Network chefs: Cat Cora, Tyler Florence, Alex Guarnaschelli and, my personal favorite, Michael Symon, each representing the South, West, East, and North respectively. Sixteen home cooks will be divided into groups of four per mentor, and then the mentor takes two of the four dishes from the four cooks and put them up to be judged. I love, love, love Michael Symon. I like Cat Cora and Tyler Florence. So I’m really looking forward to this one.

On tonight’s episode, “Making the Cut,” sixteen of the country’s best amateur cooks arrive in New York for their chance at $50,000 and the title of America’s Best Cook. But first, they must compete to represent their region, in one of two spots on a Superstar Chef Mentor’s team. Iron Chef Michael Symon will be choosing from the North, Iron Chef Cat Cora takes the South, Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli is heading up the East, and Food Network star Chef Tyler Florence is representing the West. The Mentors will be choosing wisely, as they will also be out of the competition if both of their cooks are eliminated.

Check out the home cooks and see how the mentors work with them tonight on Food Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Funniest Home Videos, American Dream Builders, Food Court Wars, Cutthroat Kitchen, Believe, Catch a Contractor, Crisis, & The Mentalist.
