If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/18/12

A friend and I were just discussing our happy songs—and I have to say mine lately has been “Whistle” by Flo Rida or “Beautiful Goodbye” by Maroon 5. I have to sing along every time I hear them. What’s your favorite jam? 😉 While you contemplate your happy song, let’s look at what’s on television tonight to make you happy.

So You Think You Can Dance had an amazing start last week with some fabulous routines performed by the Top 20 dancers. I am still in awe of the routine choreographed by Travis Wall for Matthew and Audrey—it was so breathtaking. Cyrus is a favorite of mine because he is so unique, but I have a soft spot for Matthew now because he is adorable and commands attention when he dances.

On tonight’s episode, dancers at risk for elimination perform, and two dancers are sent home.

To see if your favorites are safe and to see more astounding dancing, tune in to FOX at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of So You Think You Can Dance @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/DVRing Big Brother, Baby Daddy, and Final Witness.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/27/12

Only 2 more days left of school for my daughter, and while I’m excited about letting her sleep in—therefore avoiding the morning battles—I am starting to wonder what I’m going to do with her all summer. I’m pretty sure that anything involving duct tape will be helpful. What do you think? Comment below your best suggestions for keeping a 7-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy happy and busy during the summer please. 🙂 In the meantime, I have tonight planned out for TV at least, so let’s see what you should be watching.

It is the episode of So You Think You Can Dance where we finally get to meet the Top 20. I, for one, am interested to see where the judges’ loyalties go this year. I think that Cyrus should definitely go through because he’s so unique and talented. I just don’t know if the judges will put him through based on his lack of training. Time to bite the bullet and find out. 🙂 Do you have a favorite? Sound off below.

On tonight’s episode, we celebrate the 200th episode with guest judge Zooey Deschanel as well as the introduction of the Top 20 finalists.

To see if your favorite managed to dance their way into the finals, tune in to FOX at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of So You Think You Can Dance @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/DVRing Baby Daddy and Final Witness.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/30/12

Yesterday, I guest-hosted another episode of the TV Times Three Podcast. This time, we discussed all of the upcoming summer premieres – new and returning shows. It’s kind of overwhelming how much new TV is coming in the next few weeks. I need a break… I still have some stuff on the TiVo from the last month and was actually kind of enjoying this calm before the new TV onslaught. Read on to find out what we are recommending on this relatively light night of new TV.

Tonight, the culinary world tour of Around the World in 80 Plates heads to Africa. Last week, the chefs were in Spain. First, they had a footrace to determine teams – which ended up being Nookie and girls versus the rest of the guys. Then the two teams raced to filet and pack as much fish and squid ink they could to see who would earn the special advantage. The guys won the red prawns for their meal, but they wasted it in a terrible hot/cold dish. In the end, the women’s team won by two customer votes, and Nookie was named MVP.

Throughout the competition, Chef Keven (“Cheven”) seemed to have a knack for getting on his teammates nerves. This finally caught up with him as he was the chef sent packing last week. I was thrilled to see him go – when you know your teammates are the ones voting, why would you continue to be an annoying jerk?! I’ve really been enjoying this cross between a strategy-based reality competition show and a typical cooking competition reality show. Some of these contestants need to realize soon that they need a strategy and not just rely on skill, or they will be the next to go.

In tonight’s episode, “In and Out of Africa,” the chefs descend on Marrakech. Drama comes at a high boil due to a perilous trip, missing ingredients, and accusations of sabotage in the kitchen. The chefs also serve up a local favorite called tagine.

Root for your favorite tonight on Bravo at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Around the World in 80 Plates @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching Melissa & Joey and Total Blackout.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/16/12

Last week’s Law & Order: SVU was really quite sad. It started off with Finn’s son meeting Munch for dinner or drinks, along with his fiance. Shortly after leaving the restaurant, the fiance was kidnapped off the street and severly beaten as part of a gang initiation or something. That story then just got lost (yes, they got the guys that did it, but did the fiance ever wake up after surgery? How did the talk with Finn & the other man’s father go? SO much was just left hanging in my opinion) in what turned out to be the main story: another man was kidnapped off the street and beaten, but that turned out to be because he’d been accused of sexually molesting a high school student he taught. In the end, we found out it was really the seemingly-sweet, pretty, young teacher, although blame was shifted from the man to another really mentally fragile/crazy teacher, finally ending with the boy killing the real teacher who he’d been in some sort of sexual relationship with. It was really convoluted and sad, both for the male teacher who was beat up and blamed and for the kid. But the fact that the gay beating story line with Finn, his son Ken, & Ken’s fiance was shoved to the back burner just irritated me. Regardless, the previews for tonight’s episode looked CRAZY, which is why it’s getting my top pick tonight.

On tonight’s episode, “Strange Beauty,” while off-duty, Detective Rollins spots a young woman screaming in the back of a moving taxi. The SVU squad quickly identifies the victim as a rebellious teenager, estranged from her family and experimenting in the world of tattoos and self-mutilation. The case takes an unexpected turn when the Medical Examiner presents the detectives with a cleanly severed leg, reminiscent of a similar finding in an old unsolved case. The detectives are drawn into the psychological elements of self-mutilation and ritual amputation as they investigate two brothers (guest stars David Eigenberg and Patrick Fischler) in order to link the cases and find the missing woman.

Don’t miss it tonight on NBC at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Law & Order: SVU @ Clicker.

One of the Wednesday ABC comedies I always enjoy is Modern Family. Last week, we saw the return of Phil’s neighbor/friend Andre, who talked Phil into buying a new sports car. Meanwhile, Jay wanted to try to impress his old high school football buddies by arriving at his reunion in style, but he kept having problems with his transportation. And Lily lost her favorite stuffed bunny on a commuter train, but Cam and Mitchell decided to call it a loss after they saw it being used as a tissue by a homeless man.

While the Dunphy’s (particularly Phil) are my favorite part of the show, it’s always great to see everyone interacting as a large family. Last week, the stories were pretty much segregated, so I’m really looking forward to tonight’s episode, where once again, the entire gang is going on a big family vacation. It should be another fun-filled episode!

In tonight’s episode, “Disneyland,” the entire Pritchett clan goes to Disneyland, where Phil has trouble keeping up with Luke, Claire is surprised by an encounter with Dylan, Jay and Gloria debate suitable footwear, and Mitchell and Cameron cope with Lily’s recent inclination to run anywhere at anytime.

Check it out tonight on ABC at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Modern Family @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be recording/watching Survivor, Criminal Minds, CSI, The Middle, Suburgatory, Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt 23, Revenge, Interior Therapy with Jeff Lewis, Around the World in 80 Plates, and Total Blackout.
