I’m so excited because overnight last night, season five of Bosch premiered on Amazon. To quickly recap last season… The Korea Town Killer case was finally wrapped up, although it was slightly anticlimactic because the killer was accidentally killed when he was hit by a car. Crate and Barrel accidentally got the “collar” because they picked up that accident. It was a funny but kind of a letdown that all the time spent showing the killer riding around on his bicycle and killing random people felt like a waste when it ended the way it did. Also, Harry (re-)solved his mother’s murder…for good this time, I think. Of course there was the “case of the season,” the Angels Flight murder, which was done well but nothing outrageous to speak of. But the biggest thing was the murder of Harry’s ex-wife (the mother of his teenage daughter, Maddie), Eleanor. Those of us who have read the books knew it was coming at some point, although this was done differently than the books. But it was emotional and intense and showed some great scenes with Harry and Maddie. And it helped bring Harry and J. Edgar’s friendship back to closer than it had been, so that was an unexpected side benefit. Plus, it will set up more drama and emotion for Harry and Maddie going forward, so I’m looking forward to that.

Season five is based on the 2017 novel Two Kinds of Truth, the 20th book in Michael Connelly’s long-running Bosch series. Fifteen months after the events of season four, an investigation into a murder at a Hollywood pharmacy exposes a sophisticated opioid ring, and Bosch goes undercover in a dangerous move. But the season also involves a case from Bosch’s past that resulted in the conviction of a serial killer but has since raised the specter of police misconduct – which could call his entire career into question.

Don’t miss Titus Welliver as LAPD Detective Harry Bosch streaming now on Amazon!

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Blindspot, Last Man Standing, & The Cool Kids.

Danger Will Robinson! Early this morning, Netflix released the first season of a new reboot of the sci-fi series Lost in Space, which updates and modifies some things from the classic 1965 series. The Robinson family — Marine John Robinson (Toby Stephens, Black Sails), his wife aerospace engineer Maureen (Molly Parker, House of Cards, Deadwood), and their three children, Judy (Taylor Russell, Falling Skies), Penny (Mina Sundwall, Freeheld), and Will (Maxwell Jenkins, Sense8) — is part of the 24th colonist group, which has left Earth in search of a better life on a new planet. They are aboard the Resolute space station, when they are forced to evacuate. Their Jupiter 2 escape ship crash lands on a mysterious planet. Everyone in the family has gone through rigorous training for this mission, and each brings some sort of skill to the table, but are they really prepared for what lies ahead?

Immediately upon their arrival, the Robinsons face one danger after the next, until Will befriends a strange robot with special abilities. Meanwhile, another Jupiter ship also crash lands on the planet. This one containing a roughneck/smuggler named Don West (Ignacio Serricchino, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Bones), and a mysterious woman secretly assuming the stolen identity of Dr. Smith (Parker Posey, Search Party). It is only a matter of time until this ragtag group will eventually come together and must work together in order to survive their new environment. But who can really be trusted? Everyone seems to have secrets they are hiding from one another, including the robot!

As the series opens, viewers are immediately thrust into the thick of the action as the Robinsons struggle to survive their harsh new environment. Through flashbacks, the series slowly reveals the characters’ backstories and pieces together the events that ultimately led up to the Robinsons’ crash onto this unknown planet. Where are they? How did they end up here? Who is “Dr. Smith”? Where did the robot come from? And what happened on the Resolute that caused the crash? The first two episodes of the series have some really tense moments and unexpected twists. I look forward to seeing what other turns of events, mysteries, and adventures await in the rest of the 10-episode first season!

Last week, Superstore took a week off, but tonight it returns for the first of the final three weeks of the season. In the last episode, Glenn brought all of his past and present foster kids to the store to take a family photo for wife Jerusha. Cheyenne offered to watch toddler Bobbie Sue but almost immediately lost sight of her. So Garrett and Dina helped build a baby trap out of a plastic container and a toilet plunger, with some black licorice for bait, and shockingly, it worked! Meanwhile, Mateo tricked some of the kids into doing his work for him, while he used them as a sounding board to deal with his breakup blues. And when Jonah made a connection with 25-year-old Kristen, Glenn asked Amy to take the fall as he tried to break them up.

This show has such a great ensemble of characters. No matter how they are paired up each week, there’s always so much chemistry and so many laughs. That said, I’m a little nervous about tonight’s episode, as it marks the return of Cheyenne’s fiancé, Bo, who was easily my least favorite part of the first season. I’m hoping that somehow having a new baby has mellowed him out a bit. I’m also interested to see how the whole Jonah and Amy “will they or won’t they” plays out in these final three episodes of the season… Will they build to some kind of cliffhanger in the season finale?

On tonight’s episode, “Spring Cleaning,” a “spring cleaning” day is initiated by Glenn, and Amy and Garrett snoop into abandoned photos during the cleanup. Also, Jonah tries to gain Glenn’s approval, and Cheyenne’s fiancé begins working at the store to make fast cash for their wedding.

See what Amy and Garrett find in the pictures tonight on NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Catch, The Amazing Race, Powerless, The Blacklist, MasterChef: Junior, and Kicking & Screaming.

boschsmallI’m a huge reader, and one of my favorite authors/series is Michael Connelly and his Harry Bosch series. So when the news first came out about it becoming a TV series on Amazon, I was over the moon. Thankfully, I was very, very happy with the first season last year. I LOVE Titus Welliver as Bosch. The writers and Welliver himself really capture the character from the book. It’s a slow-moving series – what real action there happens to be is pretty quickly resolved – but for me, that didn’t mean boring. There’s a lot to think about during the show, a lot of emotion and drama. I was incredibly happy when I learned of the renewal for season 2, which premieres late tonight/early tomorrow morning on Amazon at 3AM/2AMc.

The first season combined stories from two of the books, focusing on the remains of a missing boy and a trial for Bosch over the fatal shooting of a murder suspect. The second season picks up where season one left off and plays off the book Trunk Music. A dead body found in the trunk of a car on Mulholland Drive appears to have mob connections and leads LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch down a dangerous trail of corruption and collusion that stretches to Las Vegas and back. As the case becomes more complex and personal, and Bosch’s search for the truth more relentless, the dark side of the police department is brought to light.

Check out season 2 Thursday night/Friday morning on Amazon at 3:01AM/2:01AMc.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Top Chef, 2 Broke Girls, Colony, & Recipe for Deception.

boschsmallSomething you may or may not know about me is that as much as I love watching TV, I’m also a huge reader—I always have been. My favorites are mysteries & books where the main character(s) is/are cops & the like. (I know. Surprise, surprise!) As such, of course I’ve read the Harry Bosch books by Michael Connelly. My husband & I are both huge fans of that series. So when we learned over a year ago (jeez. A YEAR!) that, after many instances of speculation and stops and starts, it was FINALLY being made into a series, we couldn’t help but be thrilled. And now, a year after the pilot was released on Amazon, it’s FINALLY here.

Bosch stars Titus Welliver (Sons of Anarchy, Argo) as Harry Bosch, Jamie Hector (The Wire) as Jerry Edgar, Amy Aquino (Being Human) as Lt. Grace Billets, Lance Reddick (Fringe, The Wire) as Deputy Chief Irvin Irving, and Annie Wersching (24, Extant) as Julia Brasher, with Sarah Clarke (24) as Eleanor Wish and Jason Gedrick (Luck) as Raynard Waits. The series follows Bosch, an LAPD homicide detective, as he pursues the killer of a 13-year-old boy while standing trial in federal court on accusations that he murdered a suspected killer in cold blood. Bosch is ultimately a good guy, a great cop who may skirt the edge of the law on occasion when he believes it’s called for…but definitely someone I love and root for.

The pilot went live last year, but tonight, the rest of the first season, episodes two through twelve, will stream on Amazon at 12:01AM/11:01PMc.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Backstrom, Chopped Canada, & Two and a Half Men.
