If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/20/12

The amount of new TV on each night has been dwindling as we head into the Christmas and New Years holidays. So we will be taking a break from the regular If We Controlled Your Remote columns for a couple weeks. However, we may pop in here and there with a recommendation. We hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday—and use the time off clear out those DVRs, as you’re going to be quickly filling them back up come January!

theleague1220smallTonight, I’m looking forward to another hilarious double-dose of The League on FX as it closes out its fourth season. Last week, it seemed like the guys were seeking help from the worst sources. First, Pete enlisted Andre’s help with a plan to get even with a girl who embarrassed him in high school by getting her to sleep with him before he dumped her. But this somehow ended up with Andre getting into a fight with some bums. Meanwhile, Ruxin planned to impregnate his wife with an “anchor baby” but discovered that constantly using his laptop had affected his “boys.” So he sought Taco’s help to restore his virility. And Kevin discovered his daughter’s creepy new playmate watching Jenny and him having sex but didn’t let that stop him from finishing.

Last week were two of the funniest episodes of the season so far. I hope that trend continues tonight and we close on a high note. Fingers crossed for more of The League next year!

In tonight’s first episode, “A Krampus Carol,” Ruxin receives a gift from his dad (Jeff Goldblum). Meanwhile, Taco has a run-in with a mall Santa. Then, in the season finale, “The Curse of Shiva,” Gina Gibiatti (Brooklyn Decker) returns in the Season 4 finale, forcing Pete to make a decision. Meanwhile, Taco throws a New Year’s Eve party.

Catch the hilarity tonight on FX at 10:30/9:30c & 11/10c. Learn where to find episodes online of The League @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching Sweet Genius.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/6/12

I can’t believe I’m almost done with my Christmas shopping. I just have one more gift to buy. I’m never done this early! Speaking of being done, it seems like each night, more and more shows are ending for the fall, and tonight, that includes most of Thursday’s NBC comedies. I’ll be sad to see tonight’s final Christmas episode of The Office, as those are always a lot of fun. However, since I suggested The Office last week, I’ve got a different show for you this week, so read on to find out all of the shows we’re recommending you check out tonight.

Tonight, FX is giving us a double-header of new episodes of The League. Last week, Pete was buying some new running shoes when a guy in a wheelchair rolled into the shop and purchased the last pair. Later, when Pete saw the same man on an exam bed in Andre’s office, he stole the shoes right off his feet, saying that he didn’t need the advanced treads since he didn’t walk. Meanwhile, Taco trained a dog to detect sex—which led to an awkward encounter with a repairman who spent a little too long in the bathroom after accidentally getting a glimpse of Jenny naked. And Jenny and Kevin got a player piano for their daughter, but soon realized it had come with some really racist old music, which Ellie quickly learned and sang aloud.

The League is so much fun—though, overall, I think it has been a little bit on the raunchier side this season. I like that while the premise of the series centers around a fantasy football league, you certainly don’t need to know anything about the sport to enjoy the humor. I like the friendship and competition between these guys that always leads to the craziest situations.

On tonight’s first episode, “The Anchor Baby,” Ruxin fears that Sofia has lost interest in their marriage. Meanwhile, Jenny makes a dirty trade. Then, in “Bro-lo El Cordero,” Kevin has a colonoscopy; Pete suspects that his grandpa (Robert Wagner) is adulterous; and the guys ask Rafi to settle a dispute for them.

See the double episodes tonight on FX at 10:30/9:30c & 11/10c. Learn where to find episodes online of The League @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Elementary, Last Resort, Grey’s Anatomy, 30 Rock, Up All Night, Parks and Recreation, Glee, Sweet Genius, Reality Show, and NTSF:SD:SUV::.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/8/12

Two good things about the election being over: no more of those awful political ads, and loads of new TV episodes! Thursdays appear to be back to their old DVR-overwhelming ways, so we’ve got some suggestions to help you decide what to watch tonight.

Last Resort is getting really good! Last week was easily my favorite episode of the series so far. Secretary of Defense Curry arrived on the island, along with Grace’s father, to negotiate with Chaplin and Kendal. Meanwhile, part of the sonar ray line surrounding the island was down, leaving the sub vulnerable. So Grace took command of the Colorado and a small team to go and replace the dead battery. While underwater, the government took advantage of the compromised defense to try to find and attack the Colorado, but Grace proved to be an effective leader and managed to out maneuver the would-be attackers. Also, back in the US, we learned that Christine knows she is being played to try to turn on her husband and is using this to her advantage.

While I found Prosser’s line of “Ten Hut, Officer On Deck!” so cheesy, it was great to see this character finally have some respect for Grace! Last Resort just keeps getting better each week as the drama, intrigue, and action keep getting amped up! I hope folks will tune in and give the show a chance!

On tonight’s episode, “Another Fine Navy Day,” mysterious assailants attack the crew, putting Chaplin and Kendal on the defensive.

See who the attackers are tonight on ABC at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Last Resort @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, The Office, Parks and Recreation, Glee, The League, Sweet Genius, Childrens Hospital, and NTSF:SD:SUV::.

Interview with Jeffrey Donovan from Burn Notice

Jeffrey Donovan recently spoke to the press about his role as Michael Weston on Burn Notice, which has its 2-hour fall premiere tonight on USA Network at 9/8c. At the end of the first half of the season, Anson was killed by a man named Tyler Grey, but in the process, Michael’s brother Nate was killed, as well. On the hunt for Grey, Michael, Fiona, Sam, and Jesse went down to Panama, and they figured out right at the end that Michael’s CIA handler, Card, was responsible for it all. I’ve gotten to see tonight’s episodes, and they are fantastic. So check out what Jeffrey had to say about that, the show in general, and what might be coming up.

On Michael’s relationship with Grey & Card

Jeffrey: Well I think you’re going to be in for a big surprise with Grey. And it’s going to be very shocking. So the – you’ll realize after you see what happens, why that’s kind of a difficult question to answer.

But I will say that the relationship that Michael has with Grey and Card is going to turn Michael down a path that even Sam will question Michael’s integrity. And I think that’s what the fans are going to really be interested in is how dark will Michael go?

And I think that the fans are going to kind of enjoy seeing Michael go down a very dark path and that’s what’s going to be enjoyable about the rest of the season.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/23/12

Is it just me, or is this week taking forever to be over? I have been finding this week to be just creeping by—perhaps it’s because I have fun plans for the weekend, but whatever the case, I’m glad it’s Thursday. Let’s see what’s on television tonight to amuse and entertain us.

Megan’s Choice

Rookie Blue has been pulling on my heart strings for weeks now. First with Gail being kidnapped, then with Jerry dying, then the funeral—finally with Sam and Andy splitting. WHY?! I ask you writers… WHY? Okay, I do know why—because it’s damn good television. I was a weeping mess during last week’s episode, especially when Traci read the vows Jerry had written. I am hoping this week’s episode brings me a few more laughs with my drama, or at least a few feel good happy moments. Please?

On tonight’s episode, “The Rules,” Andy and Nick investigate when a drug lord threatens a priest’s life; a drug-runner’s refusal to turn informant leads Traci to a career decision.

To see how Andy and Sam deal with being apart, tune in to ABC at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Rookie Blue @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching Saving Hope.
