Kyle’s Choice

thelionguardsmallTonight, the Disney Channel is airing an all-new animated special set in the world of The Lion King. The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar is the one-hour preview for a new animated series coming to Disney in January. Simba (Rob Lowe The Grinder) and Nala’s (Gabrielle Union, Being Mary Jane) cub Kion (Max Charles, The Strain) is growing up and wants to prove that he’s ready to follow in his father’s footsteps. The Lion Guard has been protecting the Pride Lands for ages and has always been comprised solely of lions. However, now that he is the leader of the group, Kion wants to assemble a more diverse group of animal friends, each with his or her own talents, to protect their home land from hyena Janja (Andrew Kishino) and his sidekicks, Cheezi (Vargus Mason) and Chungu (Kevin Schon).

The new Lion Guard consists of cheetah Fuli (Diamond White, Haunted Hathaways) who brings her speed, hippopotamus Beshte (Dusan Brown, About a Boy) who brings his strength, cattle egret Ono (Atticus Shaffer, The Middle) who brings his excellent sight, and honey badger Bunga (Joshua Rush) who brings his bravery. Some other familiar faces will also return – Kion’s sister Kiara (Eden Riegel, Youthful Daze), wisecracking meercat Timon (Kevin Schon) & warthog Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella), baboon Rafiki (Khary Payton, Teen Titans Go!), red-billed hornbill Zazu (Jeff Bennett), and the ghost of Mufasa (James Earl Jones). The cast of characters also includes Kiara’s lioness cub friends Tiifu (Sarah Hyland, Modern Family) and Zuri (Madison Pettis, The Fosters), and Janja’s minion vulture Mzingo (Jonny Rees, Hawaii Five-0).

While I never watched Disney’s previous Timon and Pumbaa animated spin-off series, I am really looking forward to checking out this new spin-off. I was a big fan of the original Lion King movie, and watching the trailer for tonight’s special, I was quickly reminded of why. It looks like this new show recaptures the humor, drama, and action that made that film franchise so great.

See if this new show will take you back to your childhood tonight on Disney Channel at 7/6c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, The Simpsons, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Family Guy, The Last Man on Earth, The Librarians, The Walking Dead, Into the Badlands, and Getting On.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/10/14

Today is a special day around my house, as my hilarious, awesome, and fantastic stepson Andrew turns 15! I am blessed daily that these kids have come into my life, and Andrew is one of the best kids a mom could ever want. After a day filled with birthday surprises for him, let’s see what we’re recommending on TV.

Megan’s Choice #1

girlmeetsworldsmallA couple of weeks ago, I was sitting and watching Girl Meets World with my daughter Chloe, and the nostalgia hit me full force. I remember being young and watching Cory and Topanga on Boy Meets World, as well as falling in love with Ryder Strong—oh my, I had such a crush. Watching my daughter fall in love with the characters makes me so happy and gives me all those happy feelings that come with a show that you love. Ben Savage is still just as amusing as ever, and he really is a great teacher. Makes me miss Mr. Feenie. If you haven’t given this show a watch, you should, simply for the moment of remembering your youth. Pure awesomeness.

On tonight’s episode, “Girl Meets the Forgotten,” when the kids are assigned a special lesson on appreciation, Riley and Maya are forced to work in the school cafeteria while Lucas and Farkle are assigned janitorial duty.

To see why this show isn’t just for your kids, tune in to Disney at 8/7c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/3/14

October is here, bringing with it beautiful colors, pumpkin spice lattes, and my favorite part: cooler temperatures. Fall weather is simply the most gorgeous of all seasons in my opinion. Bring on the chilly, crisp nights and the mild days. What it also brings is more new television, so let’s see what we’re recommending tonight.

Megan’s Choice

hawaiifiveo103smallWell, my TV romance has been rekindled with season five of Hawaii Five-0 kicking off last week, and what a delicious episode it was. I know, I know… It is possible that I may be a little biased and slightly deranged when it comes to my love of Alex O’Loughlin and this show, but honestly, I don’t care. The opening scene of Danny and McGarrett doing therapy was fantastic and made my week! The other part that really made the episode for me was the way the writers have seemed to learn how to balance the episode and give all the characters story arcs. Adam proposed to Kono, but we don’t know if she really wants to accept, but we do know she’s very scared of losing him. Having more of Jerry (Jorge Garcia) around as the resident conspiracy theorist is never a bad thing in my opinion because he is amusing and beneficial at the same time. What I’m not looking forward to is not having Catherine around yet—when will she be back? I want to see more of the chivalric side of McGarrett, like that scene from last season when he carried her down the stairs. (Confession: It is very possible that in my deluded head, I was dreaming he was actually carrying me…even though I am far from the size of Catherine and he’d be very winded carrying my chubby ass—nonetheless, a girl can dream.) Regardless of the lack of Catherine and opportunities to daydream, I am very pleased and excited that the show is back, and I’m looking forward to seeing what this season brings.

On tonight’s episode, “Ka Makuakane (Family Man),” Five-0 investigates when the young daughter of a Navy Seal currently on a top-secret mission is kidnapped. Meanwhile, with his brother’s life on the line, Danny must locate the $18.5 million he owes his captors.

To see if Danny can come to the rescue, tune in to CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Blue Bloods, The Amazing Race, Last Man Standing, Shark Tank, Diners, Drive-ins & Dives, and Z Nation.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/27/14

There hasn’t been a lot of exciting shows on Fridays since the last regular season ended. But tonight, there’s a big premiere that I can’t help but recommend, so check out my pick!

Jenny’s Choice

girlmeetsworldsmallFor those fans of TV in the 90s, Cory, Topanga, and Mr. Feeney were household names. So when it was announced that they would be coming back in the new spin-off, Girl Meets World, on Disney Channel, I was beyond thrilled. Not only do we get to see what I hope will be a fun new show that my son and I will enjoy together, but we get to see Cory, Topanga, Mr. Feeney, Shawn, Eric, Mr. & Mrs. Matthews, Minkus, & more years after the original show ended. Sure, Mr. Feeney, Shawn, Mr. & Mrs. Matthews, Minkus, and maybe Eric aren’t series regulars, but we’ll get to catch up with them at least once in person (I’m betting it will be more than that for Mr. Feeney), and I’m sure we’ll hear about them periodically, especially since Cory’s teenage brother has been cast, as well. I’m so excited for tonight’s premiere!

On tonight’s episode, “Girl Meets World,” when Maya leads a rebellion in class, Riley joins in to try to be like her…much to her father, Cory’s, dismay.

To see the start of a new generation of “Meets World,” tune in to Disney Channel at a special time of 9:45/8:45c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Jessie. (It’s a Disney night for me. 😉 )

If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/16/14

What a great week it’s been for TV. The weather, not so much. But I’ll take what I can get and just curl up under a blanket and watch TV while I try to keep warm. See what we’re recommending for you tonight.

Jenny’s Choice

hotincleveland416smallLast week on Hot in Cleveland, Joy’s “baby daddy” Simon came into town to meet not only his son, but also his grandson for the first time when they tried to get Wilbur into a prestigious preschool. Victoria ended up bringing Wilbur to the meeting, and all the family skeletons came spilling out, about Simon abandoning his son, about them meeting for the first time IN the office there at the school, and more. Needless to say, Wilbur didn’t get in, but the family agreed that was a good thing, because the school was snooty and too uppity.

On tonight’s episode, “The Undead,” Elka throws a fake funeral for Victoria so she can join her husband in hiding. Her nemesis, Susan Lucci, attends. Simon and Joy face a dilemma in their relationship. Craig Ferguson, Susan Lucci, Matt Iseman, David Cheaney, & Laird MacIntosh guest star.

See if Victoria gets away with it and what dilemma Simon & Jay face tonight on TV Land at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Mixology & The Soul Man.
